71 Corvette engine-whats it worth

hey guys, I was hoping I could get some help from you guys since most of you are GM people for life.

The guys next to our office moved out, and their sales manager told us we could have/store some of his old car parts, if we sell them the $ is ours. Among the old parts was a 350 that came out of his old Corvette. The engine came with the car when he bought it, so we didnt know if it was actually a vette engine or not. After doing some research looks like it was indeed the engine to a 71 Vette. 350 C.I. 330HP 4 Bolt Mains, and was mated to a turbo 400 trans. It is unknown how long the engines been sitting though, but it looks like its in pretty good shape. Needs an intake manifold. What the hell should I ask for this thing or should I just dump it at a junk yard

Check on a few Corvette boards and get a feel for it. 4 bolt main 350's are still out there but not sure if it would be worth more since it was out of a Vette. Does it have the double hump (Camel back) heads? You may get some inquiries about numbers on the engine and its value from the Vette guys. Otherwise, threw it on Ebay or Craigslist and see what you can get.

'71 is still a good year for Corvettes, so that engine should bring at least some money from someone that is doing a correct restoration.
Sorry I can't give you a value, but the above post sounds spot-on to me. That's a cool find.
Let us know what you find and how end ends. Good luck.

The engine wouldn't be worth more then $350 and the tranny maybe $200. The reason I give these prices is its what they charge at the junkyards for them and since they're not freshly rebuilt and you have no idea wht they have done to them or what they may need or how long they've just sat there then they should at least be gone thru before anyone would install them in a car.

Try eBay.

Someone might be looking for one for a stock restoration.

Sounds like the LT1 with lowest HP rating. Nice find! Somebody with a 71 Vette might be interested in it if he/she needs a period-correct engine.

If it's stock it'll have the good heads ( i.e. 2.02 intake ,1.60 exhaust valves ), a nice solid lifter cam, screw in rocker studs, etc. Sounds like a great find,I'd say it's a $1000.00 plus motor to the right person, take your time, ask around, you've got a great little motor. Look at the rocker arm studs, if they have a hex at the head that you could fit a wrench on you have screw in studs, most likely an LT-1.

I belive the older 350's from that gen had 1.94 and 1.5 valves and they were press in studs.

Look at the side of the heads and see if it has the double humps. If it does, the heads alone can be worth decent money people that are "hardcore" as far as OEM parts will spend bucks on those heads alone.

Ok GM guys got some casting numbers and such if it helps

The number on the block 3970010

the number on the heads 3973487

code stamped on it is CJK - someone told me this is not the 330HP version, but the heads are still the good ones

523, 3970010, 350 CID, 270,330 HP, 1971, Normal 4 Bolt Main Corvette

1969-79 3970010, 350, Low Power Version = 185 High Power = 370, Main caps - 2 or 4, car, truck, Vette

1968-72 3973487 350 1.94 1.5
1968-73 3973487 350 2.02 1.6
Curious on the heads, same casting listed as having different valve sizes.

Here's the good news. This one should be a good one and most likely has the good heads.
1971, CJK, 350 CI, turbo 400 trans, LT1 330 HP, 4-bolt mains, Vette/Chevelle/Monte
(from this site http://www.73-87.com/chevy_ids/scode2.htm)

Hope this helps.

The last 350 Chevy engine I took out of a junkyard was a 4 bolt main, steel crank engine with 2.02 heads and we paid $350 for it.

You MIGHT be able to find someone who's trying to rebuild a old Vette but the only REAL value for that engine would be in the original car it came from.
