May have bit off too much... (Cam only LS2 C6)

Let me start with a full background of the weekend. On the way to C&C Saturday a Saleen Mustang was wanting to play, obviously traffic and extremely cold conditions did not lead to any fun. But after arriving to the show I talked with the mustang owner as he was spouting off how fast and BA his mustang was. (keep in Mind this kid was like 20) he really didnt know jack about the car but from what I gathered it was a rather stock 4.6 with a Saleen labeled S/C on it- He states 450hp to the motor. No headers or any other mods. He asked what was done to mine. I told him that it had exhaust (which is true) and then asked if he would be willing to run them. He was all about it at first, then i said that I had a $100 bill that says he would be looking at the G8's tail lights. At that point he back down and didnt want to race anymore. Anyway got his number and will be inviting him to the track this spring to make some fun runs.

Onto last night at the Super Bowl Party. Of course I was feeling frisky about the bench racing discussions from the day before and a friend of a friend comes up talking about his C6 (LS2). Well first off the guy knows nothing about cars, or the one he owns for that matter. He bought it the way it sits. It does have a mild cam and full Kooks- everything else is bone stock. When Idling you cant even hear the cam. We then start talking about logistics; i say i want a dig and of course he wants a roll. So we are set on a 1st gear hit around 10-15. he has street tires (285 Nitto nvos) so Im not sure how its gonna work out. We are going to wait for the weather to warm and then give it a shot. Of course i will have my DR's on and no money has been staked as of yet. At this point im thinking i may have bitten off a little too much...He is a 6M so any debockle in the shifts and I know I will roast him. Thoughts?

Why would a C6 have an LS2 in it?

because they didnt start putting the LS3's in them until 08/09 I think...Pre-08/09's were LS2's

The C6 in question is a 2006 Model

Depending on that cam he has I may have to agree that you bit off a little much this time but like you said, one slight goof in his shifting and he probly wont be able to come back from it.

Yeah, I always think LS3 when I think C6, but if he's got an early C6 with an LS2, even with a mild cam IDK...really comes down to whether or not he knows how to run through the gears. If he does, iffy. If not, money would be on the G8.

Im thinking with his 285 Nitto Street tires he is going to blow is tires off on a 1st gear hit at 10-15mph. Im confident that my DR's will hook. I think if he spins them off the start I can walk away. however I hope he does hook just so i can see how it stacks up....The vette's are just sooooo LIGHT!

I ran a bone stock LS2 c6 auto 3 times in a row at the track a while back and it was a fairly close race each time. I was getting slightly better reaction times than him and I could stay out ahead of him untill I went into 3rd gear and then he would just start easing on by me. Light and aerodynamic!

With that setup with DR's for you and street for him I think that still gives you somewhat of an additional chance. Probably what 700 pounds difference?

Since this guy isn't much of a "car guy", it makes me wonder why he'd buy a "macho machine" like a modified Corvette anyway - looking for chicks LOL? Anyway, that also suggests he's not the greatest shifter in the world, so I wouldn't be too scared if I were you - just cautious .

Here ya go:

2006 C6 LS2 powered Corvette vs. 2009 G8 GT

Both cars have: Intake/Tune/DRs

Scott actually used Jesse's Drag Radials, so the same size on both cars, 275/40/17
YouTube Video

His Best that day was 12.47, Mine was 12.79

You can hear both cars spin the tires into 2nd gear, it was a cool day and hardly anyone racing, so the track was cool also.

I'm thinking BEST for him would be 12.2 or so, I'm betting on the Vette not having any traction at all. The Vette in the Video is an A4

BTW, my buddy Scott isn't a Car guy either, His Best time of 12.47 was with a Different driver, I managed a 12.52 in his Vette that day. He usually runs a 12.7-12.8

May have bit off too much... (Cam only LS2 C6)

Thanks for the insight. I'm starting to think I have this in the bag, as long as we don't go too much over 130mph. I know his aero and weight will give him the advantage.

I'll follow up with him as the weather warms, plan it for 15-130 roll. I want him to come to the track too...If it goes down you can bet I will have the GoPro rolling.

He also says it dynoed a little over 450rwhp...

Yeah, on the freeway rolling about 70mph if we are side by side and we take off, I usually get a nice 2-3car lead then after 110 he pulls and pulls HARD! you can definitely tell the power to weight/ratio difference then.

Also, in that video I posted above. I simply left the light with a better time and even though he was a tenth faster overall, I reached the finish line first. It's a Drivers race, esp when the guy with the more powerful car cannot handle all the extra power.

I think you have this. If it's a mild cam and he's on street tires, I think you should have it. Imagine if he was lying about the car lol.
