Do most of you delete resonators with J pipes

Having some installed Friday, need to know if I should remove resonators or keep . I was under the assumption J pipes area a resonating canceling pipe.\ I just want to upgrade sound. I am having the Magnaflow x and the J pipes. I have just angled pipe to tips. ( no rear mufflers ). Or is this going to be a downgrade in sound ?

You mean the mufflers or the forward resonators? Do you have the Solo backs?

Here's a clip of mine. All stock exhaust with resonators, x pipe in place of mid muffler with solo axlebacks.

Ya, i meant the lil pup cats , forward of rear axle backs. I see someone posted reply with a video clip and he still has the resonators, so that tells me I will keep mine. Thanks guys

Headers, no cats and jpipe without any mufflers or resonators sounds like ass. Guy posted a video the other day it sounded strange.

I personally have kooks catless headers with a solo catback which has the solo center muffler and its sounds perfect. nice rumble and really screams at wot.

Those resonators will keep the raspy sound out, so keep them.

Also, most youtube sound clips of G8 GT suck big time largely because the microphones in cell phones are meant to pick up voices for talking.... and not high definition/high quality audio. I've heard video clips of my current set-up that made the idle sound awful.... Depends on the phone, but you need a REAL microphone for REAL audio....

When I got my solos I already had the X-Pipe, I was worried it would sound awful. Yeah.... it doesn't. When it is started cold, it rumbles a little more. When it is warm it is a subtle growl that absolutely anybody would love. I haven't put the headers on yet, but I was absolutely thrilled when starting up after putting the straight pipes with Js on....

The video below is the best quality I found, and apparently he has the Kooks Mids, X-Pipe, and Solo Axle-Backs.... So, it should be a good indicator of the sound. Though, the microphone is obviously correcting for volume, because it'll be louder than that.

But anyways, yeah.... if those resonators (not pup cats) are deleted, it's going to sound like a farm truck... (Somebody else's description, not mine LOL).

Ok,

So I will keep the resonators, my friend just deleted his and it sounds ok, but I dont want to lose any low end torque . I also dont want it to be sooooooo loud as my friend. He just has x pipe and LT headers, and no cats, into straight pipes out back. Thanks for all the help and clips. I will post good footage when done.

You're not going to lose low end torque by removing resonators, if anything you may gain a few.

Ha, Thats been debated for so long.. Gain vs loss re: resonator removal. Two schools of thought.

Good reading, But I didnt see any mention of bullet style resonators . At first the author states that he wants the muffler manufactures to take notice of his views, yet at the same time he praises some of the manufactures on their products.

Just like doctors. One says its cancer, the next says its a misdiagnosis and your fine. Thats the way of the world though.

I wonder if anybody has downloaded an app to test the decibel level of various exhaust setups.... It might come in handy to determine just how big of a Cop magnet each setup would be...

I have no resonators on my setup (long tubes, no cats, x pipe, jpipes) and while it doesn't sound like a farm truck, it is obnoxious.

I want to get resonators to just refine the sound and take out a bit of the rasp, it would/will be perfect

Here's mine with LTH, no cats, x-pipe, stock bullet resonators, and solo axleback. This is before the LS9 cam I put in last week.

Your "avatar" matches the clip perfectly...

That sounds awesome, but probably too loud for me. Mids and cats will be on mine...
