finally got headers for my G8 GT....

only took 4+ years and 98,000 miles...but I ordered some JBA 1 7/8" LT's tonight...very nice price on ebay $500 shipped. Stainless, but uncoated. Will have Slowhawk install and tune.

At this point I have only a little over a year left of payments on the car, now w/ rims/full exhaust/headers/brakes/intake/tune/etc. I figure this will be my long term hobby car. If the cam gets wiped out from the bad original lifters all the better (although knock on wood I've never had an issue). My next DD will be something w/ a stick and sporty...pretty certain it'll be a WRX or the Focus ST, and the G8 will be stored at my mom's house and tweaked as the budget allows. No garage at my new house...but much roomier than my last condo.

Haven't seen too many people w/ the JBA long tubes, but they had a good rep in the GTO crowd, are stainless, and American made so I'm psyched. Just had plugs changed recently w/ OEM but may swap wires during the header install for the heck of it.

Pretty pumped. Its an early Bday gift (12-6) and surprisingly the wife's OK because she knew I had been on the hunt for decently priced headers for a while and knows they can run $1200+

I don't care about losing the cats as I'll sell them for some quick cash and I already have to go to a "special" garage for inspection w/ my tint. I expect at least 20whp maybe more deleting the cats adding the headers and modifying my custom tune. I'll repost results when I get them.

'08 GT sport/premium, tints 20/35, 18" TSW nogaros w/ bridgestone blizzak winter, 19" sport oem w/ hankook evo summer, Philips crystalvision bulbs, debadged, Vararam OTR, JBA 1-3/4" LT's, ported TB, MF axlebacks, MF X-pipe, DBA-powerslot brakes, russel SS lines, hawk ceramic pads, GXP shocks/struts, lovells poly strut mounts, Slowhawk Tuned 344/356

Gone -'04 GTO A4 2.5" custom exhaust, sweet thunder muffs, H pipe, Z06 heads, Baer brake it, 20% tints, torrid red, AEM brute force intake, tuned

JBAs are good headers. They're a good choice and especially at the price you got them.

Yes but they delete the cats...so you won't pass emissions

Yes you're right, I had a brain lapse....I was debating on 7/8" and 3/4" - I specifically went w/ these JBA because I wouldn't be needing 7/8"...the balance of mods may be a small cam and/or TC...but that's a ways off.

congrats on stepping into the headers game. I went a different route, but we all have our own idea of "what will make us happiest".

You'll have to report back after they carbon up for a few weeks with your impressions of newfound power, sound changes, likes, dislikes, etc. Would be cool to get a "before and after comparo".

98k miles, eh? Wow. I'm half that!

and there's nothing wrong with 1 3/4 headers, I have 1 3/4 Kooks LT's on my bolt-on car.

Sure if you're pushing 550+ HP go for the biggest pipes you can jam under there, but at reasonable power levels of a GT, any difference in horsepower between 1 7/8" headers and 1 3/4" headers is negligable at best.

Hey, who is concerned about an eighth of an inch? ha ha

Ask my wife lol....sorry couldn't resist.

My dyno #'s in sig are w/ 40,000 miles, vararam, axlebacks, and tune. Since then the only "power adders" I have done is removing resonators/mid-muffler and having a magnaflow 2.5" X pipe and some straight piping welded in place. I will get #'s pre-install for the headers to see if I picked up any negligible HP w/ just the X pipe and freed up exhaust (I'm sure some people would be interested in that) and then an after chart w/ what I gained w/ my headers and retune.

Also, it is fairly common for cars to actually pick up HP w/ higher mileage as long as you're judicious w/ your routine maintenance. I changed the spark plugs in the last couple thousand miles too so it should be in tip top shape for making good dyno #'s.

Slowhawk - the tuner/speed shop I use - told me not to worry about the mileage as he just installed a supercharger on a 130,000 mile F-bod

I was looking at those too. They come with the other side of the flange so I was thinking of welding in some hi-flow cats to them.

I think I'll go that route also, SLPs LT over Kooks LT or mids because they are already coated and come with cats that bolt right up(probably a little cheaper overall with the extras. Just waiting for my warranty to expire for a tune.

JBAs look good for the price thou. Tell us how they bolted up once you get them installed.

Headers were the biggest bolt on upgrade imo.
Really changed the feel/sound of the car.
Congrats!

My wallet hates me too! lol

Bought a used driver's side tailight while I was on ebay too...mine has moisture in it that won't go away, heard numerous opinions on how to get rid of it, well, for $60 shipped I'll just replace it!

Miles are not a problem in this engines, at least not 100k miles, mine has 80k, and next year by March more or less, she's going to have either a nice big cam, or a nice NitrousOutlet wet and plated NOS kit with all the safety nannies, i think i'll do Nitrous because it's cheap, and because i've never done it before, my engine cherry hasn't been unplugged yet , she also has the stock glass lifters that would probably last 200k miles easy if i leave them in there, even with NOS and everything.
