3.6 litre, 5 speed auto, 256hp, zero to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds, its fuel economy is 2 mpg better in the city and 1 mpg better on the highway than the V8.

You can find the same engine in the GMC Acadia, amongst other offerings. Not sure if the motor is still in production though. I think it changed when the Camaro was launched, and revamped again for the 2012 Camaro. Guys, am I right here?

Price wise, a loaded V6 and a base GT were about 900 bucks apart when new.

jdubdoubleu,

I'm kinda surprised you haven't done your homework. The LS series motors are ALL V8's. The non-GT G8's have LY7 3600 series V6 engines. An engine that replaced the 3800 series V6's that you found in the Grand Prix GT/GTP, Monte Carlo SS, etc... Not meaning to sound rude, but it's always best to do your research, and learn your cars.

I'm glad I could answer your question. I'm no mechanic by any means, but I love to study up on cars. It's kinda my hobby.

Here's a great resource that I have used in the past to learn more about the LY7.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_High_Feature_engine#LY7

Quote:
LY7
LY7 V6 engine in a Cadillac STS.
Alloytec V6 engine in a Holden VZ Commodore.
LPG Alloytec V6 engine in a Holden VE Commodore.

The 3.6 L (3564 cc) LY7 version was introduced in the 2004 Cadillac CTS sedan. It has a 10.2:1 compression ratio, a bore of 3.70 in (94.0 mm) and a stroke of 3.37 in (85.6 mm). Lower powered versions only have variable cam phasing on the inlet cam. Selected models also include variable intake. The engine weighs 370 lb (170 kg) as installed.

This engine is produced in several locations, including Saint Catharines (Ontario), Flint Engine South (Flint,MI), Melbourne (Australia), Ramos Arizpe (Mexico), and Suzuki (Japan).

The 3.6 is also used in the CTS but is now Direct Injection (about 304 HP). The Chevy Traverse loaner had a 3.6 that was transversed mounted for FWD. Not a bad engine at all. I thought the 0-60 time was better than 7.1 seconds for the G8.

Now - 2011 Cadillac CTS - Raven Black 3.0 DI - Fully loaded, and yes, mods have begun!

Had - 2009 V6 Sport Red Metallic, Premium and Comfort Package. Sunroof. Modifications: Pedders Street II Package with Sway Bars and STB. Full Bra and Side Mirror Bras, Hacked Atari Gauges, Auto Dimming Rear Mirror, Racemesh Grills. Glove Box Light, Factory Bluetooth, BMR subframe and tunnel braces, BMR Rear Adjustable Toe Links, SPOHN Rear LCA and Trailing Arms. Infinity Kappa Speakers GO SAINTS

Some of the initial magazines reported it at like 7.6.

With my bolt-ons and no tune Dynolicious seems to think I ran a 6.9, one time. But beyond that I'm consistently around 7-7.5 depending on the air, but that was all mid-summer weather. This fall I want to try it again and see if there's a difference.
