Talking Winter Setup-Lots of pics because you LOVE them

I received my Winter Tire package last Friday and put them on the car. My old tires were the original summer tire with the 09 GT Sport. They had about 44,000 miles. The tread just hit the wear bars; it was a good time to change. I purchased 235/55R17 Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60 with 17x7.5 Machined w/Black Accent Moda MD14 and TPMS. I am very happy with the purchase. The wheels look better than I thought they would. The tires offer a smooth ride. I can feel the difference in the larger sidewall. It is not bad, just more movement then the summer tire. The road noise does not sound different to me. Overall I am very happy with the purchase. Let me know if anyone has any questions.

Holy Wheel Weights on that one wheel. I am guessing the balance dot on the sidewall is 180 deg from the valve stem. I'm happy with the Moda 11's for my winter set and this is my third season with them.

Yeah. It is supposed to snow this weekend. I was in the snow once with my summer only tires. I will not do that again. I rather have the winter setup giving me that much more safety. I was stopped on packed snow in MI at a stop sign and started to just slide to the right. The tires also perform better below in freezing temps.

Very nice!
There's a large storm coming through the midwest tomorrow actually, so you'll get plenty of good use out of your tires. I live in Southeast Wisconsin and this will be the first winter in my g8 and first RWD car I've driven. I currently have Blizzak WS-60s on the car so it should be a good test of the tires.
We got some snow yesterday, so this morning I was testing it out a bit. I went to a road with a a decent curve, lightly accelerated, and turned pretty hard through the snow. The car would break loose then traction would kick in and it would instantly catch. I did not have to correct ever and I never felt like it was going to completely slide out. This is A LOT better than my other tires in the rain. I'm very impressed so far!

I hope your tires work out just as well for you.

***6 JAN 2013 UPDATE***

I wanted to post an update to my winter tire setup. We had three good snow falls while I was in Michigan. The tires performance was remarkable. I have never owned a snow tire before my LM-60s. The LM-60s on the G8 (With the traction control system) are amazing. I had zero issues while driving in the snow. Some of the conditions I tested the tires in were 6-7 inches of fresh snow, snow/slush covering the unplowed roads and ice covered roads on the side streets. The car would also stop much better and use the antilock brakes less. My brother has a 09 Black G8 GT with Conti all-season tires. I know that the dedicated snow/performance tires would be better because that is what they are meant for. We wanted to see how large the gap was. The gap in performance was clear after driving each other’s car in a verity of conditions. We tested turning, acceleration and braking. The difference, as expected as night and day. All I had to do was turn my car in the direction I wanted to go and the card would take over and do the rest. I went out sledding after the first snowfall. There were a few of us at the park. In order to get out of the park a car would have to drive up a dirt road incline to the main road at the top, all unplowed. When it came time to leave I had to help push 4 cars in front of me up the hill, one was a Jeep. I got into my car and easily climbed the hill without even spinning the tires. I think I had a smile on my face the whole time. By the end of the two weeks my Girlfriend was tired of me talking about my winter tires, lol.
I am not an expert at tires nor were any of the tests scientific. Everything was done for fun. I wanted to post up my review to help others that are on the fence. I am sure other performance snow tires are just as good. My only experience is with the LM-60s. I did not realize how much better a winter tire was then an all-season tire. I would say the winter tire is must if you live in a region that has decent winters. The safety aspect alone is worth it. As long as I live in a region of the US that has winters, I will have a winter only tire setup on the vehicles.

Of course this is all just my opinion.

Thank you to the board members out there for all of the information they have posted over the years about winter setups.

I've got 36k on mine and probably have another 5k in them. I bought the car in October and I'm pretty sure it was babied by the first owner.

Damn must have been. I got 8k on my original summer tires and 22k on my all seasons I had but I frequented the track often and tend to lay rubber from time to time.
