I purchased my first G8 GT a couple of weeks ago.
The car already had been equipped with the following mods -
Roto-fab cold air intake kit
Magnaflow x-pipe cat back exhaust system
H+R lowering springs
Tinted windows
Debadged
Sharkfin antenna
Crossdrilled rotors
Painted brake calipers
GXP rear valance
I decided to start with the basic mods to get my project going.
After reading a bunch on the G8board.com, I found items that appeared to work together with good customer feedback.
So I contacted Rick Crawford and visited him today.
I purchased his upper intake kit which consists of his version of a modified stock intake and ported/polished throttle body.
I also contacted Marylandspeed and acquired one of their SLP underdrive pulley kits.
I also purchased a set of 10.4mm spark plug wires from Taylor, NGK TR6 spark plugs, and a set of Autozone Dayco serpentine belts.
Finally I won an Ebay auction for a new 2012 Camaro differential with the limited slip and 3.45 gears.
I plan to add long tube headers soon along with Rick's camshaft and ported/machined heads.
Got the RCR intake and throttle body installed.
Got my Rotofab radiator cover powder-coated gloss-black and installed.
Got all the spark plugs gapped & installed along with wires.
Drained all antifreeze, flushed system and reinstalled new Dexcool fluid.
Drained all transmission fluid, flushed system and reinstalled new Mercon VI synthetic fluid.
Also got my HID installed in my fog lights. VVME kit - 35Watt and 8,000k lumens.
Car runs great so far. Trying to decide when to do my 3.45 diff installation and if I should go ahead and put some long tube headers on it.
Still gotta make an appointment to get Rick to tune it.
Removed my H+R lowering springs and installed stock springs.
Removed my factory struts/shocks and installed FE3 parts.
Removed factory toe/trailing arms and installed BMR replacements.
Removed my factory strut bushings and installed new replacements.
Here's 2 pics with the H&R springs still installed before mods.
The H&R springs had a 45mm drop according to the website.
These came on my car when I purchased it.
It was a little too low for my tastes, so I took them off and replaced with stock ones.
I found that my passenger side strut was blown out after removal.
That explains the clunk noise I couldn't diagnose previously!!!!
These new FE3 parts are awesome! With the stock springs, it rides great!
Good lord man, your killing me, mine gets gas and if I'm really charitable will even add some oil......
Am getting new plugs and wires done next week, and the suspension looked at so I can start accumulating parts for a late August swap out. Like you are looking for a stock ride height. Going to FE3's and poly bushings and we'll see what else.
Great looking car, I'm sure she rides and goes how she looks now.
LoL! I actually have had the parts for a few weeks, but never had free time to work on the car.
Started Saturday night and did the front end, then finished the rear end stuff on Sunday afternoon.
I got a full OBX long tube header exhaust system along with Hooker MAXFLOW rear mufflers and the Camaro differential to install next.
LOL! I still own a GT500 so it's all good!
Of course you get some comments (expected), but frankly most response has been very positive.
Reactions such as "I've heard of those", "LS Mota", and "Cam Only" were the most hilarious ones!
Haha.
OK update time!
Felt froggy so I decided to start my exhaust swap last night!
Got home from work, changed clothes, and immediately put the car up on jackstands.
I started by removing the rear mufflers and pipes. NOTE - My car had some sort of aftermarket system in place with some poor welds and crushed-bent pipes.
Plus I had some annoying exhaust leaks......see if you can find them! LOL!
Got home today and between dodging the helluva rain storms, I got the new Camaro SS differential installed and setup!
Sadly no drive tests yet.
My mufflers got delayed shipping, and should be here sometime next week.
I got the HOOKER MAXFLOWS going on it.
The Camaro SS diff will give you a different gear ratio. The Camaro SS has a 3.45 vs the G8 GT's 2.92.
