Rear tapping noise

So recently I have noticed A tap/knocking sound coming from the rear of the car. Now it sounds like someone is literally tapping on the rear window with a pen or key. It's not extremely loud that it sounds like something's broken but there is no mistaking it. I can't make it happen at will. Sometimes the car is stopped, on the highway or accelerating. I've looked into it on the forum and Internet. Some say its the struts others the cv joint, or the brake light wires. But no one has actually figured out what it is. Just looking to see if someone knows what im talking about. And has any suggestions.

Thanks

Chris

Sounds like possibly the evap purge solenoid. I know it usually does it once shortly after startup. It is quite loud and will make 4 or 5 clicking/tapping sounds.

Mine does this too, when I've come to a stop not too long after startup. From what I've read on here thus far, it is in fact the EVAP vent solenoid. Spooked me pretty good the first few times I heard it, but I'm no longer worried it's something major.

I have experienced this also. It sounds like someone is tapping on the rear of my car with their finger. It mostly occurs after the car has been sitting cold (like overnight) and then I start my daily drive. I'm not as technical as some others on here, so I wasn't sure if this was related to the well known "lifter tick". But it sounds like this is something different altogether.

If it happens soon after startup, it's this - self test of the evap system. If it happens later...

@Ode2Joy, how are things with the G8? I apologize for the time delay since I was out of the office last week and I'm trying to get caught up with everything. If you wouldn't mind getting me up to speed with your situation, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi Michelle: Thank you for your interest! I'm actually not too worried about this rear tapping. It's one of those little things I may ask about when I go in for my first oil change at the dealer. I love my G8 GXP! I'm very happy to have it, although the payments are a bit sobering...lol

On a separate note, I used to work at the Pontiac Customer Assistance Center there in Pontiac back in the mid-1990's. I met a lot of good people. The way we communicate with customers sure has changed a lot! Thanks for being there for us.

@Ode2Joy, You're welcome. Please, let me know how things go when you take the G8 in for the oil change. I'm curious what they tell you.

It's a huge pleasure to be on the forums with you and the other members.
