I don't waste any time using a clutch at the dragstrip.

I've never understood the "auto is faster at the track" theory. How is there any enjoyment or satisfaction in mashing the gas to the floor & keeping the car going straight. Kinda seems like it'd feel like being a passenger, you're just along for the ride while your car is mastering the shifts. I'd rather improve my skills & take pride in my shifting ability, even if it is slower than an auto.

Im not against the guys that have manuals at all. There was a big part of me that wanted a manual trans but in the end commuter traffic kinda made the decision for me.
I didn't mean it that way, I believe that an auto is faster. But I think of it like cheating, getting your friend to do your homework for you. Where's the satisfaction from stomping the gas pedal to the floor & holding it there? Seriously? Unless you're racing for money...

Not really, (though some would say yes) Those are major power boosters, they change the amount of power, just like any mod done for power increases. Even with the smallest of power adders, people talk about the butt dyno, the feeling of more power. An auto doesn't give you more power or make the car feel like it has more power, In fact it is usually a power reducer to the rear wheels and an increase in weight.

WOW can't believe this horse is still getting curb stomped.

Anyhow, and let me preface this by saying I PREFER A MANUAL and I RODE SPORT BIKES (anyone who rides loves manual shifting by default) - Autos or the derivative of are taking over. They ARE FASTER - stop trying to argue it, you're wrong. It IS A FACT. Whether we're talking conventional torque converter, single, or dual clutch automated manuals, SMG, DSG, DPK whatever you wanna call it, not only are they faster but now even the die-hard enthusiasts are saying they prefer them in the pinnacle of ALL DRIVER'S CARS - the lambos, the porsches, the ferraris, godzilla, bugatti, CTS-V etc. ALL OF THEM have AUTOS and they're ALL FASTER WITH THEM. try and argue that...I mean you can't. You sound ridiculous trying to. There is no argument. It is fact. I just posted another thread about how the brand new M5 was a HALF SECOND quicker to 60 w/ the SMG and the same through the 1/4 - nothing else is different in the car but the tranny - that's ridiculously faster.

The end.

Tanner Foust prefers traditional manuals too as do most precision drivers.

To be honest, he did ask about daily driver, these guys all probably have some sort of S class Benz or something. How about asking them their favorite road going sports car?
Or maybe It's kind of like cooks who don't like to cook, mechanics who don't like to work on their own cars, plumbers who don't fix their own plumbing. Once you've been in the business to long, you just want to relax, & driving an auto let's you do that.

I have a 00 Camaro SS with a stick, and I love driving that car. Things like traffic never bothered me, and besides that its just more fun.

My GT is great, but I think the auto fell short. It's a big heavy truck trans tuned for lazy shifting and mpg. Sports cars should have stick shifts, just my opinion.

That's exactly what I was thinking. It's the new 8 speed manual tranny in the chrysler's.

Several funny post and replies on this page.

Us autos cheat on the drag strip because we don't have to shift but we could also say you manual guys cheat by getting more power to the ground so those two cancel each other out.

I guess I have argued more for the auto in this thread but Ill still say a manual is more fun to drive.

Moral of the story is that I need a manual car aaaaaand an auto car! (I think a lot of people would agree that they need the same.) haha
