The difference between my 6.2 LS3 and the Corvette

I was just wondering about the primary differences between the 6.2 LS3 engine in my GXP versus this same engine in the Corvette at that time. I know the GXP's version was "de-tuned" some. For example, the HP rating for the GXP is 415. What was the Corvette's with this same engine?

I apologize if this question has been asked before and is on here somewhere. Thank you!

same engine. Different exhaust set ups I think (manifolds, mids and mufflers) is what accounts for the difference in HP ratings I believe...

I believe that the LS3 in the G8 GXP, Camaro SS, and Corvette is the same engine. The differences are with intake, exhaust, and factory rating. The intake and exhaust system on the Vette are from the factory are much less restrictive.

I get the biggest kick out of being able to say that my car has a Corvette engine. It's a great conversation starter

Intake and exhaust are different, everything inside is the same.

i hate when people say they have a corvette engine when talking about a GXP or TBSS or even a camaro...

Sounds like that corvette has a truck motor... sounds pretty silly huh.

i thought engine "crank" horsepower was independent of the exhaust? the exhaust and drivetrain are what made it lose power, so that's why you go by "wheel" power on the dyno ? if you wiki LS engines, it only mentions the engine itself when it says how much power it makes.

in any case, i thought the crank power was different on corvette because some internals were different than GXP's - but i may be mistaken.

I say corvette motor and I have both a camaro and a gxp. That's what it is. Ls3 was designed for the vette. Just like if they put the 5.8 from a gt500 in a 4door car it would have a gt500 motor in it.

I have an overlay of my GXP and my buddys 08 Vette. Its redonculouse the difference at the wheels. The Vette has better manifolds, intake, 2.5" exhaust and more aggressive tune with a slightly more effecient rear. My car stock with a Rotofab and ported TB on the rollers compared to the bone stock 08 Vette:

BTW, this is the reason why Vettes dont respond as good as Camaros and GXPs with headers/intake/tune.

You cant get any better on comparisons lol. Same day/same dyno(It was a dyno day).
BTW, the most my car made that day bone stock was 359 and it was a cold run. It made 354 warmed up.

Since an engine is effectively an air pump, power is a function of how much air you can push through it, and how efficiently. Induction restriction directly impacts how high of manifold pressure can be sucked in during the intake stroke, and exhaust backpressure/tuning directly impacts how efficiently the exhaust can be expelled from the chamber.

When we SAE certify, we are required to run the vehicle-intent induction and exhaust restriction, which is where the power disparity comes from from the LS3 in the Camaro, Corvette, and GXP.

This bolded by Bo is dead on accurate as to the diff between the LS3 in the GXP and Corvette.

I was reading all the previous posts and couldn't get to the end fast enough.

PS, I also say, "it's got the LS3 engine in it; same engine as the vette."

intereseting, thanks - so does that mean if gxp ls3 and vette ls3 have exact same setup for SAE testing, they would yield same #s ?

No, they are SAE cerified by the emissions/intake/exhaust/tune each vehicle will have.
So the testing for the Vette had Vette external parts on it and the same goes for the Camaro and GXP. Seperate certifications for each application.

He said "if" they had the same setup.
I suspect the answer would be yes, but I can't guarantee it.

I just ask this, why in the world did they use a 2.25" exhaust in the GXP???? A 2.50" exhaust wouldn't have been any louder imo.
