Question Pass airbag seat sensor concern....

I have read through "the official aribag thread" and it was brought up but no answers..

Here is the issue, I was on a 130 mile trip and on the way back I happened to notice that the "Passenger airbag off" light on the mirror was lit up. I look at my wife to see how she is seated, in a normal position, I checked the seatbelt, it was fully secured, so I asked my 120 pound wife to reposition in the seat, no change. I am crusing at 70mph in some moderate rain during this. I then tell her bounce in the seat and after the 3rd time the airbag "on" light came on. After a stop for fuel (turned the car off) I noticed the light "off" was on so she had to jump in the seat again to get it to activate.

The seat was more than halfway back and no lights on the dash. My car info: 2008 GT, no accidents, 18K miles, I am the second owner. I called GM before buying the car to see what the service history was and if there was any open recalls, a very light history and no open recalls.

This concerns me, any input on this would be helpful before taking it to the dealership. I am also curious to the warranty on the airbag system.

Thanks in advance

Albert

3yr/36K mile warranty, whichever comes first.(you'll be expired on time but once they diagnose the problem, you could be eligible for some goodwill) If you have an extended warranty, it may be covered by that. Depending on when you last checked for recalls, there may be one for the passenger side air bag, but it is likely that the recall will not solve your issue.

I need to see if my airbag system is covered under my extended warranty. I thought the restraint system was longer... I'm still under factory warranty for powertrain....

Platinum sounds like it could be Coverage One. ? If it is, they are the best company out their next to GMPP. Coverage one is actually the non GM side of GMPP if that makes any sense...

If it's not coverage one, all bets are off...

Get it in ASAP. In Canada you have 30 days to cancel an extended warranty contract.

I'm in Florida, the warranty covers everything except wear items, and seems good when I read over it before, but don't remember anything about the restraint system. But I guess if anything I will call the dealer I got it from since its less 30 days. Most aftermarket warranties do not start until after 30 days from purchase.

I hope you luck out as stated above. I see that just under the leading edge of the seat, is the module. It has 2 connectors going to it. One has 3 wires (green, white, black), and the other connector is a flat transparent ribbon wire type (very flexible and goes to the seat pan pressure sensing pad. I was thinking, that if something at one time had been stuffed under that seat, maybe it could have inadvertently tripped a locking tab to either connector (I would lean towards the ribbon wire connector). Any loss of pin to socket tension, would surely cause you troubles. Wouldn't hurt to look an verify if all is normal at that module.
I ran a weight test about a year ago, just to get an idea of what the general pressure threshold was in my car. As I remember it was a little above 50#.

Ok, sorry for the delay. My warranty says everything except what's in the "not covered" section. So I'm sure it's covered. I also wiggled the wires under the seat and it worked ok for a while but started again on my 300 mile trip today. I just had back surgery a week and a half ago so I can't bend for another 2 weeks. This sucks. I will try again next week if I feel better or see if I can get a friend to help me this week.

Sorry for the delay but just started working again. As for the name of the company, it does not say a name. It says its a " Qcert-157 " It was a certified pre-owned car at Napleton Hyundai. It is a Platinum pkg as well.

Thanks

Yes, plus an extended warranty that covers bumper to bumper for 2 yr / 30K from purchase. That's the one I do not have the name of.

I realize that this is probably what the F&I (Finance & Insurance) person told you & I wish you all the best, but their is no such thing as a bumper to bumper extended warranty plan (as you have already realized from the "not covered" section). I hate when sales people mislead customers with that terminology.

Me too, but I am a mechanic (B tech) and after reading the "not covered" section it does cover everything except wear items like brake pads and clutches and other things like that and non factory parts, it's almost like the factory warranty. Since I am building my Trans Am I will hold off on modding the G8. I do agree that sales people mislead so many people that do not know what to look for.
