Since many G8 owners will be putting the cars away for winter storage as this season winds down, I'm taking a shot at organizing a Fall Meet for one last get together of the year.
It'll be a bare bones no frills affair, none of the exctement of Mosport or the ambiance of Niagara, just shine up your ride, show up and shoot the crap with other G8 owners for a few hours.
Meadowvale North Park is just north of the 401 between Mississauga Road and Winston Churchill Blvd. The 407 has exits nearby and for those coming from Niagara to Winston Churhill the 403 is 10 minutes south and the QEW 20 minutes south. There is ample parking at this location though we may have to mingle with others using the park at times.
Getting off at Winston Churchill just south are Shell and Esso stations for those needing fuel. On both sides of the street there are a multitude of fast food and restaurants available for food, snacks and washrooms.
The park is a sports park and there are washrooms there but I don't know when they close for the season and if they will be open for use.
This park is in an industrial area so should be very quiet on Sundays however there is a police presence so it is up to you how robust your arrival may be. I have not inquired about a permit to use the park so we are in essence squatting and I wouldn't want to get kicked out in the first hour.
To those who can make it, I will see you all there, it would be a cool way to hang out and close the season down.
Thanks Jim, seems the BMW club and I are thinking along the same lines. I didn't want to go into Nov or mess with Halloween but wait as long as possible into Oct.
I picked a date knowing there would be scheduling conflicts for many, sorry you can't make it this time.
I have tried to keep this meet as informal as possible, show, shine, gab. If G8 owners can't make it for the full day they can drop in for a few minutes or an hour.
Do us proud at Mosport.
Drive safe.
The only thing that will be stopping me is snow and thats a rare thing to happen in October. Well i guess rain too lol. If its pouring that day it won't be fun.
BAD NEWS
I tried and obtain a permit to use the park and do this the "right way" for the sake of people who may be travelling a couple of hours for this meet only to find we had been tossed out.
I was flatly denied a permit for the use of the park for any CAR MEET OR SHOW, plus they tell me the park closes in Oct.
This leaves me 0 and 2 for finding a location for this meet.
The mall were I intially wanted to have this meet denied me because I had no affiliation with any merchants.
I didn't think this would be this hard to find a location, we're not the Wild Bunch or anything, well a few may be kinda wild.....
Will keep looking....
Brad: Could you do it on a lot where you work? IE obtain permission from the owner? Or could you call the city and ask what kinds of parks would be available for this type of event? I have no problem helping you find a spot, we will prevail!!!
Thanks Steven, I haven't given up.
As far as Mississauga goes any gathering over 10 people you need a permit for the park which is a crock.
The park I wanted to use which they say is closed for season I know for a fact they dump snow in the parking lot all winter so thats another crock. The diamonds and fields they close.
These parks have managers who treat their park like a private little fiefdom that only they control and the city lets them get away with it.
I've got 2 more ideas to try to do this right and not get the boot for squatting.
I'm tellin you...just a bunch of pencil squeezers with sphincter clenching from liability clauses with nothing better to do. I'm not suggesting that we build a ramp and go to the base of the CN tower for a protest but if the park is basically closed for the season, what problem would there be?
You took the words right out of my mouth Frank.
I asked them as a tax payer for the last 30 some years why I can't have access to the park, thats when the b.s. started, more the 10 then 20 then 30 people you need a permit, no cars meets/shows, parks closed, no this, no that, no the other thing.
I was told the park is under constant servaillence and the police would be called if we squatted.
My son suggested approaching a local Canadian Tire about using there lot. They have had car shows there in the past, if everyone who attends goes in and spends $20-25 the store wins and we get a meet sight.
I didn't think this would be so hard but will keep you all posted.
OK. Brad and I will talk and figure it out so don't cancel yet.
I will make sure this happens. Somewhere in the same area. No worries guys.
I'm too die hard to quit that easy.
I will certainly try to make it out; that is, of course, if a location can be found. Can't say I'm surprised to hear the trouble you've been having arranging it, however.
Being from the golden horseshoe area myself I will try to do a little brainstorming for possible locations as well.
I went by the Meadowvale Northpark this morning, seems baseball/soccer seasons are over and the parking lot was deserted so that was extemely promising.
Les and I have talked about Chinguacousy Park in Brampton as a venue as well as MNP.
I'd like to stick with Meadowvale as it is easier to get to because of its proximity to the 401 and hope the will city leave us alone. If we get the boot we can drive over to Argentia and continue there parking at the RCSS and going one by one to Tim Hortons.
Will make a final decision by next Sunday.
I wouldn't say that, according to FB event we have 9 going, with 15 interested. There are always those who show up without word, or those that don't respond that others know they are joining!
Sounds like a location has been found, just waiting on the announcement from Brad!
My apologies for taking so long on this, however now Les and I can confirm the meet will take place at Meadowvale North Park.
The link to the location of the park is in my initial post.
Baseball and soccer seasons are over and the park has been deserted for the past two weeks which hopefully means we wil be left alone for the few hours we need the park.
PLEASE KEEP YOUR ARRIVALS AS DOCILE AS POSSIBLE SO WE DO NOT DRAW UNWANTED ATTENTION TO OURSELVES.
Should we be asked to leave, and I may leave in cuffs over this being a taxpayer and all, those arriving later and finding an empty park go over to the Power Center at 3115 Argentia Road and look for us there. Argentia is one light south of the 401, there is a Tim Hortons in the mall we will park at either the RCSS or The Keg parking lots. If one person goes for coffee every 10 minutes we can really drag this out. There is also Southwest Burger, Mr Greek, Pita Pit, Taco Del Mar and Dairy Queen (ice cream for Les) to name a few place to grab a bite.
I don't expect to see any changes made now all we can hope for is a sunny warm day and people leave us along unless they are interested in learning about our G8s.
See you there....
