Drive to Drags on Traction Tires ?

Ok, I've been reading about tires for drag use that I can drive to the track on, 100 miles away.
Seems the more I read the more confused I become.

I like to take her to the track as often as I can, but I NEED TRACTION !
So looks like I need to go 17", is this correct ?
I'd like it to be a 295 or larger, on stock height GXP.
I've looked at weld, race star and seems all I find is 9.5" wide.

So the question is, what dang wheel and tire should I run ?
rears only for now.

Forget the tires, did you only pick up 4.4 mph after you added the blower?

Yes Sir,
but without the blower she would get some traction and go.

With it she just blows the tires off, 3 gears.
295 Toyo proxies +4
This is only with 5 psi @ 4200'

17x9.5 will be big enough to fit a tire you need to hook..

One of my customers got down when he ran the same exact ET with and without the blower. lol. Only difference was he gained 15 mph in the 1/4 on 6 psi.

I have some very light Greg Weld wheels I'm selling for 180.00. They fit my G8 perfectly. They are 17x9.

This is a traction problem.

How much throttle do you give it down the track. I'd have to imagine with the traction problems you're describing that 3/4 throttle may be all you can use during your run.

If you are spinning all the way on 5 psi then you are right, your tires are junk or the track prep is bad.. I'm running street tires..285r18s goodyear supercars and it just barely spins in first at the track. Make sure traction control is off..it actually made any spinning worse for me at the track.

At only 5 psi at 4,200' elevation, the car isn't making enough power to spin all the way through third gear unless the driver is either, 1. doing it on purpose, or 2. really doesn't know how to drive/shift/race. Yes, I'm sure the car would benefit from some drag radials. That is an easy fix. The fact that the car picked up < 5 mph tells me that something isn't right, probably in the tune.
I suggest a smaller pulley, fuel system parts as needed, some drag radials and seat time. For comparison, my car trapped 117+ NA, with intake, exhaust, heads and a mild cam. Albeit at close to sea level.

Traction control is on, tires must be junk, track prep maybe bad.

When she shifts to third she spins crazy and wants to head for the wall. Gotta get out of it, almost like a pedal fest, on, off, on, off.
Mr. Pat G is the tuner and said we are good !

That must be one heck of a ride. Good luck finding a set of drag radials that work for you. Let us know what you run when you finally get some traction.

I guess you just need to buy some traction tires then.

I ran Toyo Proxes R888 315/30ZR20 on the rear and they were great. They are a bit expensive and considered a street legal race tire, perfect for driving to the track and back.

My G8 is LSA SC at 13psi then, drove on them daily even in the rain and never had a problem, including two trips from S. FL to NY and back. Just had to be careful when it was wet out or sub freezing temps. Prob lasted 9k miles

Thank You !

So if I went with a 17" wheel 9.5" wide....Do I need 54 offset wheel ?

Didn't know the sea level would make that much difference to how much speed the car would pick up. Is there a good gauge for what we would have to take into consideration when it comes to that effect on the car? Hope the OP can continue to update us with how things are going once he tries out some suggestions. Hopefully he'll see the pickup he wants with some of the advice here.
