Realistic price of getting cams installed

I'm still not sure if cams are right for me though. I have kooks long tubes and I plan to get a solo exhaust to put on then. I already have a livernois tune so I can get it retuned easily from them should I go with cams. But I often use the car for long trips and daily driving when the weather is nice. I do track the car a lot during the summer and have it equipped with nitrous. I run 92 octane always and am tuned for that as well. Would a basic stage 1 cam be a good investment? On average what would the gain be in horsepower. What other components would I need to replace/upgrade as well.

General rule of thumb from what I have read/heard from other car enthisiasts and dealing w/ local speed shops is around $1000 for a cam install. Depending on what cam you go w/ and other supporting hardware that may be getting installed as well I think w/ the install + tune and hardware you would be anywhere from $2,500-$3,500 all said and done....that's just off the top of my head I may be wrong

'08 GT sport/premium, tints 20/35, 18" TSW nogaros w/ bridgestone blizzak winter, 19" sport oem w/ hankook evo summer, Philips crystalvision bulbs, debadged, Vararam OTR, JBA 1-3/4" LT's, ported TB, MF axlebacks, MF X-pipe, DBA-powerslot brakes, russel SS lines, hawk ceramic pads, GXP shocks/struts, lovells poly strut mounts, Slowhawk Tuned 344/356

Gone -'04 GTO A4 2.5" custom exhaust, sweet thunder muffs, H pipe, Z06 heads, Baer brake it, 20% tints, torrid red, AEM brute force intake, tuned

$1000 is a fair labor only price for a cam swap on our cars where the heads have to come off.

Where do you live?

Also other than cams I would need to replace the springs and valves too correct? I was thinking of these. http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/...-Camshaft.html

How bad would these affect my daily driving.

i with this guy . find someone local to that has the know how, and do it yourself. nothing like the payoff of a good cam install knowing you did
the work.

depending on cam choice you'd need to take into consideration
new lifters & trays, rods, springs, timing chain, oil pump, etc...

thats a fairly small cam. looks like it requires springs though, so may as
well throw in some hardened pushrods while you have the heads off.

your doing the basid dod delete, right ?

No I did not want a DOD delete. I like the DOD and like the ability to just turn it off when needed

Contact G8-4-Speed (Rick Crawford) on the board here then, and get his suggestion for a good DOD aftermarket cam package. He knows his stuff when it comes to swapping over to an aftermarket cam while still utilizing DOD.

^^Good advice^^

Also there is an updated version of the DOD lifters so you may want to at least swap those in while you are doing the cam swap to avoid the stock ones going bad down the road and chewing up your new cam.

Rick will suggest 1.85 rockers with the stock cam right off the bat...pretty easy and not as involved as a full tear down you might say. It will make decent power with the rockers alone

Contact him @ ls-4-speed@nc.rr.com

How much tuning is required with a set of 1.85s? Can you use a cortex to do it?

2-3 K for a cam install blows my mind lol.

Are you DIY cam swaps degreeing the cam?

Is a simple rocker swap really worth any power for the effort?

I have not degreed a cam in years. Not worth the effort in my case.

The rockers are good for 15rwhp. not much effort. Easily a DIY. And a small cam can be added later if more power is desired, while still retaining DOD.

You can choose to be anything you want on the internet...why choose to be so stupid!
