Scratch Help

I walked out of the grocery store today and was surprised to find this beauty on my rear bumper. I also taught my son a couple new words. It is deep enough for my fingernail to go into it. Can anyone offer advice on how to fix it?

Your son's going to learn new words sooner or later.
I would absolutely lose my mind walking out to that.
There are scratch and dent "Doctor's" out there check the yellow pages or the web. Some have shops, some are mobile.
I have limited experience with them or what they charge but they did cover a couple of boo-boo's on my G8 when I brought it.
Good luck.

If you can get your finger nail into it then unfortunately it's gonna be to deep to buff out. You might get some of it. Depends on how deep and how much paint you have on the car. From the looks of the pic, I'd say someone should be able too get the white out for you but you'll still feel the scratch. It's not metal so it won't rust

Good luck!

Maguiars makes a good product. I am lucky and get to use the stuff provided at my work throughout the years.

I should add that you always want to go with the least aggressive option first and you're welcome!

Again, chances are you're only gonna get the white out of it but still feel the scratch. So dont go crazy with a buffer and compound, when you can achieve the same results with a less aggressive technique.

Definitely. I already tried ScratchX 2.0, and it was ineffective on this one.

Try Nu Finish Scratch Doctor.
I've used it on my G8 but its probably the least abrasive on the market that I know of.
May do the trick.

Thats too deep. Thats looks INTENTIONAL ( vertical ) ???? I would bite the bullet and find a competent shop to re shoot the bumper. Stress to them that it was from a parking lot scratch and dash and that no insurance is involved. They may empathize with you and give you a deal.

My 2009 - With the usual suspects. Incl. - Pat G.

Well, there is a slight improvement. I used Meguiar's Ultimate Compound and a microfiber applicator pad. This is after five applications. I don't know if I want to go with anything stronger, but I certainly don't want to leave it looking like this.

Agree with Icudahadah . Take her to a body shop. They can either use a rotary and improve the looks some and use some touch up paint or option b is repaint it.

Kinda hard to tell but is that orange peel I'm seeing in the paint? If I look towards the lower half of the pic. by your knee it looks like there is. That could be a sign that she's already been in a body shop

It had been in a fender-bender before I bought it, and the rear bumper was repainted. I will have to take it to a body shop sooner or later to get it redone, but was hoping on "later."

Just tell'em to do it right or you will be back there sooner AND later....... Shouldn't be that pricey. They'll simply sand, smooth, and blend... Doesn't look in the picture like it's deep enough to require any filler...

Then again, why is there a second straight crease in the bumper a few inches to the right on the picture?

Looks to me like that fender wasn't repaired right.... By right, I mean replaced.... Nothing chaffs me more than a shop that'll repair a plastic bumper when it really should be replaced. Not that its the previous owner's fault... insurance companies tell really good stories to save as much money as legitimately possible.
