DevilYellow 02-03-2007, 12:03 PM GENERAL MOTORS WILL INTRODUCE NEW SATURN ASTRA AND PONTIAC G8 PASSENGER CARS AT 2007 CHICAGO AUTO SHOW
DETROIT – General Motors will introduce the all-new 2008 Saturn Astra and 2008 Pontiac G8 at the Chicago Auto Show next week, building on the momentum of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit – where the Saturn Aura captured the North American Car of the Year award and the Chevrolet Silverado claimed the North American Truck of the Year award.
Saturn continues its product revitalization with the new Astra compact car, along with the 2008 Vue Red Line and Vue Green Line hybrid. The Astra marks the fifth all-new vehicle in Saturn’s lineup, and is the last step in a complete reinvention of the brand’s showroom in less than 20 months.
The G8 sedan represents Pontiac's continuing commitment to rear-wheel-drive performance, and adds to the G6 GXP and Torrent GXP recently introduced in Detroit. Additionally, a pair of special-edition Chevrolet Corvettes will debut.
The Chicago Auto Show is open to the public Feb. 9-18 at McCormick Place.
GM also will bring the cars that caused a stir in Detroit : the Chevrolet Volt electric car concept, the Chevrolet Camaro convertible concept, the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu and the 2008 Cadillac CTS.
“It is truly an exciting time at GM, because every few weeks, we get to show off all-new models that reinforce the fact that we’re not only back in the car market, we’re back with the intention to lead it,” said GM North America president Troy Clarke. “The common thread linking all of these great new products is our renewed commitment to design excellence and technological innovation.”
Complementing GM’s new vehicles at the Chicago Auto Show is an all-new exhibit that is the auto show equivalent of an art gallery. It features a distinctive, more intuitive layout that allows visitors to experience GM’s eight individual brands in gallery-type settings.
General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM), the world’s largest automaker, has been the global industry sales leader for 76 years. Founded in 1908, GM today employs about 284,000 people around the world. With global headquarters in Detroit, GM manufactures its cars and trucks in 33 countries. In 2006, nearly 9.1 million GM cars and trucks were sold globally under the following brands: Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, GM Daewoo, Holden, HUMMER, Opel, Pontiac, Saab, Saturn and Vauxhall. GM’s OnStar subsidiary is the industry leader in vehicle safety, security and information services. More information on GM can be found at www.gm.com (http://www.gm.com/).

Demon8 02-04-2007, 09:50 PM Hmmm...looks like a Commy :)
Are those the same HSV wheels?
Demon8 02-04-2007, 09:51 PM The front end looks so much better than the front end of the GTO, that alone will make sure it doesn't fail.
Josh@ARH 02-04-2007, 10:53 PM Hmmm...looks like a Commy :)

nsofokles 02-04-2007, 10:54 PM i love the wheels...the brakes...the front...the spoiler...i wanna see the whole package tho...this is gonna be awesome
DevilYellow 02-04-2007, 10:59 PM You guys have to keep in mind that this is really just a show car. The GT model being shown will not be the top-level HSV equivalent that we want it to be. Remember the GTO show car having nice 18" rims?
Not to sell the show car short - it really looks like most of the goodies from the parts bin came from the Commodore SS-V.
speeddemon 02-04-2007, 11:01 PM sneaky sneaky
Josh@ARH 02-04-2007, 11:04 PM I just hope it has a Sunroof. Navigation would be nice too.
AlphaEden 02-04-2007, 11:14 PM I wonder if I'll be able to afford one, although my next purchase would most likely be a truck
Difftechnics 02-04-2007, 11:17 PM I gotta tell you guys I am seeing SO many GTS's around here now its crazy I hope they offer some kind of Go fast model from pontiac too!
AlphaEden 02-04-2007, 11:25 PM Do they have clubs/group meets in the land down under yet? I would love to see some pics from local club meets down there
Difftechnics 02-04-2007, 11:27 PM Do they have clubs/group meets in the land down under yet? I would love to see some pics from local club meets down there
Not just yet... their is commodore/monaro specific cruises but not a VE only thing just yet..... give it a bit longer and some big job cars will be coming out! I know there is already one in the 10's! :eek2:
AlphaEden 02-04-2007, 11:30 PM is that the twin turbo one someone posted a vid of a while back?
nsofokles 02-04-2007, 11:37 PM it better have an *****in sunroof...or i'll be very sad
AlphaEden 02-04-2007, 11:59 PM Question, do you think they'll release color information at the Chicago Auto-show?
What's the current color line up in Aussie?
AlphaEden 02-05-2007, 12:06 AM oooo.... http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/action/colourtrim?modelid=4006
them colors look interesting... doubt they'll all translate to the US though
HotRodKush 02-05-2007, 12:34 AM Looks nice so far, I'd like to see how much they change the ass end - GM has a way of FUBARing the rear end design of some of their cars...
Scurvy 02-05-2007, 12:41 AM I just want a nice base model that is affordable for now (i.e. 25k range)
Difftechnics 02-05-2007, 01:48 AM is that the twin turbo one someone posted a vid of a while back?
Its from victoria yeah I think someone posted it up before...........
Blown_Red_97Z 02-05-2007, 02:07 AM I honestly hope it is a great looking car so that Pontiac can sell a lot of them and come back on top
GT086 02-05-2007, 03:49 AM I sincerely hope GM does not screw this car up. The new Commodore is just amazing looking. Thankfully, it appears from these teaser pics that they haven't, yet.
PMD G8 02-05-2007, 08:15 AM I just hope it has a Sunroof. Navigation would be nice too.
A sunroof would be a big +, but I'm doing just fine with my Nuvi. Works better than any other in-car nav. I have seen.
Holeshot 02-05-2007, 10:07 AM Looking forward to seeing it in person on the 10th. Glad to see GM is listening. I guess Bob Lutz made a bigger influence on the Big Brass then we thought. Hoping the US market will accept the G8 better then they did our beloved GTO.
Recluse 02-05-2007, 10:08 AM I just want a nice base model that is affordable for now (i.e. 25k range)
+1
Would love to get a "stripper" with cloth seats, etc.
Doric 02-05-2007, 10:28 AM While I have no doubt that a G8 will find its way to my driveway at some point, I also have little doubt that I would stop myself from doing to conversion back to a Commodore. I'm just not a fan of the G8 nose.

Agreed Mike I also think the hood is a little over the top :secret:
Coop43 02-05-2007, 10:33 AM Agreed Mike I also think the hood is a little over the top :secret:
I'll have to wait to see it in person.

Having to get a different hood in addition to the bumper though... :( Possibly fenders too :( :(
DevilYellow 02-05-2007, 10:43 AM I was thinking myself that I would do a GTS conversion - but seriously I am impressed. I would roll some HSV wheels on it and call it a day.
Maybe, just maybe use some different tail lights.
However I plan on waiting a year or two for a High Powered / GXP version.
Doric 02-05-2007, 10:43 AM Yeah - it won't be cheap. I think I'll keep an eye out for a Chevy variant that should be at least somewhat toned-down.
Coop43 02-05-2007, 11:22 AM Wondering (from some descriptions) if the rear spoiler will look anything similar to this.
http://www.g8board.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=2&stc=1&d=1170696069
DevilYellow 02-05-2007, 11:28 AM I'd say similar. I think the spoiler-less GTO's have had an impression on a design team.
Foster'sguy 02-05-2007, 12:37 PM Am really looking forward to seeing more of this car. The lease on the wife's Acura should be up right about the time (hopefully) the G8 is coming out.
topperge 02-05-2007, 01:01 PM Only DY would have pictures of the exhibit being built from inside the hall already!!! This car is going to rock.
McCarron 02-05-2007, 01:01 PM However I plan on waiting a year or two for a High Powered / GXP version.
Exactly what I'm thinking. Get a model after a few years of typical Pontiac upgrades to the car over the first few years.
Can't wait to see the car on Saturday!
AlphaEden 02-05-2007, 01:13 PM yea we learned that from purchasin the gto first year :P
nixapatfan 02-05-2007, 02:01 PM Guys check out this thread, it should end any of the speculations.

TT C6 02-05-2007, 03:18 PM Thanks for the G8 webcam pics! :secret: :aus_flag: :gears:
Demon8 02-05-2007, 04:33 PM I'm glad there is no huge spoiler, it would ruin the look of the car.
Mike P 02-05-2007, 04:44 PM The pictures of this G8 are sweet! Mine is going to be Black!
UltraMagnus 02-05-2007, 04:58 PM I have been looking or something to replace my Aurora. The G8 is going to be it. Deep blue, with a black or dark grey interior for me.
StolenFox 02-05-2007, 06:23 PM The pictures of this G8 are sweet! Mine is going to be Black!
Agreed........
Here's to hoping for a metallic black!
StolenFox
TriShield 02-05-2007, 07:52 PM I can't wait to see the engine specs and interior. The car in the photos has a sunroof so I'm hoping stuff like dual-zone and navigation made it as well.
ToMiT@ 02-05-2007, 08:12 PM I can't wait to see the engine specs and interior. The car in the photos has a sunroof so I'm hoping stuff like dual-zone and navigation made it as well.
I am with you, Tri.. I am hoping for more than 362 HP....something like 400 or 412 HP (not sure where I got that #..read it somewhere) and the interior options would be nice if we had more choices than we did on our GTO's
I want a 2 tone interior!!.......and a place to plug the Pod!!:D

appletonrc 02-05-2007, 08:38 PM I'm liking what I'm seeing. Can't wait to see what Chicago holds. Good chance I'll be getting.
I love the early web cam stuff.
veritasatis 02-05-2007, 09:08 PM The interior shot is not the G8. It is a shot of the Torrent's interior.
I hope it's Torrent. At least it looks identical to the one on the Pontiac website for Torrent.
I'm really hoping for something different-better :)

pinski 02-05-2007, 09:41 PM Ohhh, man.... soooooooo excited for the pics to be released Wednesday :)
nixapatfan 02-05-2007, 09:42 PM Hey Dede you must have missed it, all those pics were stolen from us. Humbler and I found those off the autoshow webcams.

You guys are worse than Star Wars geeks standing in line for the next movie. :gr_jest:
GT086 02-05-2007, 11:31 PM Wow, the Torrent's interior is nicer than I thought it was.
sccaGTO 02-05-2007, 11:36 PM Wow, the Torrent's interior is nicer than I thought it was.
Maybe get the AWD for the Wifey.
GT086 02-05-2007, 11:45 PM Maybe get the AWD for the Wifey.
No wifey here and the exterior still looks like crap and above all things, it's slow.
Hey Dede you must have missed it, all those pics were stolen from us. Humbler and I found those off the autoshow webcams.
yeah, I noticed it when I was posting the second set of pictures.:D
HUMBLER 02-06-2007, 09:53 AM You guys are worse than Star Wars geeks standing in line for the next movie. :gr_jest:
No way, not that bad! :fawkdance:
99grandprixGT 02-06-2007, 10:03 AM looks good so far.
The Stig 02-06-2007, 10:22 AM Loving the exterior of this car- I am actually a big fan of the front, although I could take or leave the hood scoops. The major thing that bothers me and I could change easily enough are the taillights. I would just as soon switch them to the Holden version rather than the cheap (at first glance) lights on the G8.
KTGPGT 02-06-2007, 03:23 PM Amen on that one! Although it's a time of change, I'm hoping for the best. At least it's got dual exhaust!
Front is very sexy and intimidating. (from a female's perspective)
Looks nice so far, I'd like to see how much they change the ass end - GM has a way of FUBARing the rear end design of some of their cars...
Foster'sguy 02-06-2007, 05:06 PM Looking good so far. I may have found a new DD if the price is right.
