Sorry if this question has been asked before, but I was wondering what is the max torque rating for the rear diff.?

As much as she can handle before she blows. The GTO rear ends were pretty good. I have heard the GTO rear ends are better than the G8 rear ends.

No real technical data other than the fact it is brand new to the Commodore/G8. We do know now that there will be other gear sets available, and if the case remains the same then the gears will interchange. Just because each and every (almost) Solstice rear end is under recall at this moment doesn't mean anything is wrong with the G8's, or that there will be - despite the fact that the CTS-V has switched to a cast iron housing, but it's laying down 550 engine hp, at a guess at least 100 more than any factory G8.

so, I'm going to try and get my dealer to change my diff before I, or during the process of me buying the car. I believe in 09 they are offering a cat-back system and a functional air box as-well.

I know the GXP is 3.27 for the auto, can the dealership put in 3.43?

Is there a for certain link to the CTS's?
If there are parts commonality between the G8 and the CTS drivelines, then a worthy upgrade will be the new V's diff, but be warned, it's still no miracle worker.

Very little if any commonality. The G8 diff is brand new to US market, I believe. So there may be nothing to compare to. Our Aussie members will have to comment on the durability of said rear end. I am not even sure if a '07 CTS and '08 CTS have same diff, mindful that the axles and other suspension parts are from the larger STS.

We are getting quite a few breakages with these diffs here. Mine is stuffed now and am waiting for another diff should have it in a week or so. I am changing my 2.92 to a 3.45 ratio to give it a bit more mumbo.

Having said that it has copped plenty of abuse causing it to fail.
