I'm ready to take the plunge and I can't decide. Superchips is easy use but does not any where near the adjustments that HPTuners has. What to do.

Buy the HPTuners suite.

I was thinking about HPTuners, but was afraid of screwing something up.
Guess if you know what your doing, HPTuners would be the way to go :)

Although, this Superchips tune is slick, and it has a money back guarantee.
Try it, and it you don't like it, send it back :)

I have some idea on whats involved with using the HPTuners software, I've just never done tuning like this before. I'm not afraid of the technical aspects of it. Its just going to take a long time to figure things out vs. the superchips, where its almost instant.

My vote goes towards HPTuners and a wideband o2 sensor.

hptuners, if you have a lot of knowledge and the time to spend.

superchips if you just want to get some extra power and control some stuff.

superchips for me cause i dont have the need for power as much as so of the others on this forum do. i think its fast enough for me already.

HPTuners and a wideband o2 sensor.

x2! or x3!

Its not about power, its more about fine tuning. There's more adjustability with HP Tuners.

John is a laptop required for the HP Tuner or can a desktop be used instead?

I know I don't have the knowledge to tune my car with HPTuners. I really want it though if for no other reason then the ability to take the tune out and put it back to stock when getting serviced.

Let's say I pay a pro to tune it using HPTuners... will he be able to lock it so I couldn't do that (assuming I bought the suite myself)?

Technically you could use a desktop (I run it on mine in addition to the laptop), but you really need a laptop to scan it.

I would imagine if you get a tune, you should be able to read it. Most tunes are like that, they might stipulate that you don't go around posting it though.

Cool, I wouldn't have a problem with keeping it to myself... now I just have to find a reputable tuner in STL... :driving:

Well, I got my car back after two months in the body shop after my accident, it feels good to have it back. Now I feel the need to tune it more to my taste and what I really want to do is improve the transmission feel.

not released other than to me for now, Superchips has shift torque adjustments, which is what improves the transmission feel. This option should be out first of next month.

I can set it up from mild to wild, stock to chirping the tires going into 3rd gear.

I have HP Tuners. The learning curve is greater, but the end result is better than a canned tune. To do it right though you need a Wideband sensor and the MPVI Pro.

If your not willing to invest the time and patients to learn HPT, then get the canned tuner.

I have HPT that I purchased for the GTO. When I purchased the GenTT system, Martin supplied a very good 2bar SD tune that I uploaded. My intent has been to learn more about it, but primarily I have used it to examine codes and simply to log runs. As the car runs great, I haven't changed anything (and obviously haven't had to take the time to really learn it).

The HPT community seems to be very good about sharing their 'open source developed tunes', although I appreciate that there are concerns about intellectual property theft from tuners...hence we can't simply buy the tune from Vector. That is a major drawback to me. Paying $50 + shipping to keep renting a device for changes... Rumor has it that they are trying to develop a handheld of their own. That would be just the ticket. Maybe a combination Dashhawk device that can display, log, and upload tunes?

im so confused everybody is saying different things as far as getting a tune ,i want the best performance so what should i do............

there is no straight forward answer.......

HPT is not for everyone, hand helds are not for everyone and mail order tunes are not for everyone. depends on the type of person you are. its all going to be up to you :) tuning is half the fun for me. i'm the type that loves trial and error. i have to work for my tune. and i'm the one that has to figure out how to tune my car correctly. that's why i'm a HPT user.

they should all give you noticeable gains.

.....no brainer.......trade in for a ZR1.

Since I am not a DIY guy, I will take my car in to a reputable shop and have it tuned by a professional.

If you do get HP Tuners (http://intense-racing.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=IR&Product_Code=G8-HPT-VCM-y&Category_Code=G8_Electronics) you can pick up our INTENSE G8 ECM (http://intense-racing.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=IR&Product_Code=G8-ECM-2008&Category_Code=G8_Electronics) standard tune (HP Tuners format) and install it in your car, gain all the benefits of a canned tune yet retain the ability to tweak it as you learn and grow in your modding.

I'm ready to take the plunge and I can't decide. Superchips is easy use but does not any where near the adjustments that HPTuners has. What to do. Why don't you come to our shop and get a dyno tune for $500 ? Free updates or changes [ unless it requires dyno time then it's $125 after your first tune ] Then you don't have to worry about learning how to tune . BTW this includes the TCM tune also .

Got to love that return policy.

If you don't like it, just send it back for a full refund.

Any other tuners offer that?
