NYG8GT 01-25-2009, 02:15 PM Do you have any cores in stock? If so would it be possible to swing by on lunch during the week, do a quick swap, and call it a day? I'll even throw you some extra cash for the install. I just cant be without my car at all during the week. Or if youre in the shop at all on the weekends I could swing by and drop the TB off in the morning and come pick it up after youre done with it if possible.
Mike @ New Era 01-25-2009, 05:03 PM No, but you can swing by on your lunch, and we can take it off, port it and put it back on, it will take about 1 1/2 hours. You will have to schedule it.
TheTugBoat 01-25-2009, 08:35 PM Any more details on how much you're porting. Gains? Any experience porting these TB's? Can you do the intake manifold too?
Mike @ New Era 01-25-2009, 09:08 PM Not sure what you mean about how much you are porting, but I have been porting throttle bodies for over 7 years on LSX engines and I have done over 1000 of them. Typically you will see 3-5 rwhp, and much improved throttle response. Yes, we do intake manifolds as well, for additional $200, I don't advertise this because I do not have cores and it will take an additional 1-2 more days down time. Doing the intake manifold will make another 6-9 rwhp on top of the increase from doing the throttle body.
09G8GT09 01-26-2009, 09:17 AM do you need to have it tuned after it is ported? Does the computer automatically just pick it up?
thanks,
Mike @ New Era 01-27-2009, 01:27 PM It is not necessary, no.
09G8GT09 01-27-2009, 01:38 PM Cool..
I really want to do both intake and throttle body, just don't have a second car I can use at the time. Have to wait at least a month. I guess I will PM you in a couple of weeks see what we can do..
thanks,
eliteG8 01-28-2009, 11:21 PM What MM does the opening go to over stock ?
Mike @ New Era 01-29-2009, 08:06 PM It is an eliptical shape on the entrance and exit when it is finished really and plus the throttle body sits on about a 12 degree angle so it is not a straight diameter so I can not tell you exactly wnat it comes out to, the blade however is 90mm. Take your intake off and look at what I am talking about, you can not simply bore it straight through, or your G8 will barely run, kind if a trick of the trade doing the Gen 4 stuff.
MLozano 01-30-2009, 03:18 AM What's porting? sorry new to the idea....
G8Smitty 01-30-2009, 04:49 PM I just put my order in! Thanks!
USF3983 01-31-2009, 09:27 AM What's porting? sorry new to the idea....
i think it involves taking off the rough edge from the manufacturer mass production. the rough edges increase the heat of the air coming in. (actually, that might be the polish, i think porting and polishing go hand in hand)
i think it also involves increasing the size of the airway and taking curvy airways and trying to make them as straight and freeflowing as possible.
madhunter 02-10-2009, 10:00 PM Porting, I think, involves removing some material at the inlet of an orifice to make it more trumpet like (tapered). This should reduce the entrance effects of the flow and allow if to pull in air at a more linear pace with less effort. Even a small radii at an entrance will have a nice effect and further increase a smaller effect.
Some one please shout if I'm wrong.:(
SMGSS 05-14-2010, 10:13 AM They are available, but no longer for the sale price. They are $75

phoenixitc 05-14-2010, 01:20 PM What's the degree of difficulty installing one of these? I put an SLP throttle body on my '88 Fbird 350 and it was a simple install. Any special tools, torque wrench, etc.?
SMGSS 05-14-2010, 01:25 PM its pretty straight forward and easy. 10-15 minutes
phoenixitc 05-14-2010, 02:23 PM Great... and... wait for it... will it void my warranty? :)
SMGSS 05-14-2010, 02:35 PM It shouldn't. You cant see it just looking at the motor, and a lot of people wouldn't notice the difference if they did have it off.
