The rarest of events occurred yesterday: I saw the first G8 I've ever seen "in the wild" (as in, apart from the 2 or 3 I've seen at Towers) since I've owned my car. Unprecedented. :)

For those that know the area, I was on my way back home from the UM gym, driving north on 57th Ave., and he was turning left onto SW 56th St. (Miller). It was nighttime, but I'm pretty sure it was MGM, and it had the dealer-mounted racing stripes on it. Looked pretty sweet! I honked and waved as I passed by.

Wouldn't have been anybody on the board? As a side note, are there any G8 owners on the board down in Miami, besides myself? Like I said, I've met a couple of the Broward county guys at Towers...

LOL, those were my thoughts exactly. I was coming up on him from a distance as he was stopped in the turning lane, and I did a double take, and thought "That HAS to be a G8" before getting closer and confirming. That back end is very special. :)

Mine is silver (the sweetest and fastest color :wink2:). I can't believe you've seen so many around! I only saw one before owning mine, black GT back in March '08 when they first launched (at UM as well actually, walking back to my car from the gym). Since then, that one a couple days ago was the only other I had seen on the street.

Wow, there's quite a few of us in the Broward/Dade area... You guys ever go to Towers? I went for the first time over winter break, and have been generally going about every other week since then. There's usually a couple of G8s there, including mine. Yep, we're even rarer than GTOs!

I'm in Miami and I've seen a red G8 GT that heads west on SW 16th St. b/n 17th Ave and 37th Ave every afternoon around 5pm. Other than that I recall seeing one SBM down by the Falls a few weeks back. that's it I haven't seen any others which is one of the reasons this car is #1 on my list right now.

No I scrapped the front bumper while trying to park on the grass next to a sidewalk. But I have some touch up paint that I will use to get all the little chips if the dealer will not repaint my stuff under waranty. The bad paint makes me wish I would have gotten a black G8 where it would not show chips easy since the plastic is black. I have had no problems with the sheet metal parts of my car, but the front bumper and left side skirt are chipping.

I am, born and raised here in MIA though. I thought that pic was quite funny. I'm leaning towards the white hot but starting to sway towards the black b/c of the constant chipping i hear about. Although black gets dirts very quickly and scratches on metal do show up easily.

You can get the 3M clear bra that is almost invisible to the eye. It's a little expensive IMO that's why I skimped on it. After I touch up all the chips I may do it though. It's basically a thin clear film.

I am intending to put it on my car, but I haven't heard of any good shops yet. And I've heard/seen too many horror stories on other forums of bad clear bra jobs that look hideous. It's all about the installer when you're talking about clear bras. Would be great if I could find some info on any local ones... Maybe I should check the Vette forum.

The shop called Performance Tech. They are on County Line Rd just East of 441. Phone is 954-985-7378 . Talk to Brent, he's the owner. They are capable of any mechanical work big or small and they have a dyno. He also has to equipment to flash Vector tunes on the G8.

Tower Shops is a shopping center in Davie ( university Dr and I-595). They have a car show every Friday night.

It's in Davie. Right off of 595 on University. Going south it will be on your left where there is a Taco Bell. You'll start to notice a bunch of nice cars around you, that's when you know your near it. I might be there tomorrow night....not sure though.

There's traditional car shows (like the yearly one in Miami Beach, official big events where the manufacturers show their cars), then there are shows like the one at Towers. At Towers, it's basically all owners, parking their cars and showing them off (as well as any mods they've done). It's a really good place to meet up with fellow owners, and see some of the mods you may have been considering, in person. Towers happens to be a pretty big owner's show that's been going on for a long while.

Yeah, my car's pretty filthy too... There's some construction on my street and there is literally a giant mound of dirt sitting on the corner. Add to that the dry weather we're having, and you can imagine how much of that is ending up stuck to my car. :mad: They really can't finish soon enough IMO.

I'm in the FIU area and bought a black '09 G8 GT about a month ago, definitely not too many of them around which is one of the things I like most.
I had the window tints installed at Solar Tint inc. and they do a great job they laser cut the tints so they fit perfectly, they dont install 3M tints but they do install Huper Optik ceramic window tints which look great and really reduce the heat in the car they are expensive ($350) but I think worth it. They also install clear bras for the car but I dident ask how much they charged.

I won't do anything less than 3M. I was actually thinking of buying there new chrystaline film that actually goes after infared light which is what couses all the heat instead of the visible light that normal tints do, they run about that price but they only make as low as 40%, apparently thats all you'll need to keep the heat out.

I'm looking for privacy though, i need at most 20% all around.

I think i'm going to end up taking to High Grade which is right around the corner from me. They did my last G8 but where trying to feed me some bull**** this time about not wanting to provide the lifetime warranty if i but the tints all the way to top where the matrix is, they only charge 180, i'm getting 2 cars tinted and a keyless entry put in for the another car.

There's a place a little farther north by the 836 that has 1/2 off on the second vehicle but they don't have 20% tints, they have 15% and charge 198.

Any of you guys in miami willing to sell me their VIM kit or at least let me use it (for price of course). $310 is a little steep for something you only use once.

IIRC the VIM sort of "self-destructs" after you use it to prevent what you are trying to do...

:( It gets lonely not seeing any G8's around... maybe one day. Did have a guy and his girl almost decapitate themselves with how hard the turned to look at my car as they passed by, it made my day. At the light he actually jumed halfway out his seat to look out the passenger window.

I ended up taking it the High Grade again. 16% 3M all around for my car, it's still too early to tell if he did a good job or not. I tint all the way to the top, in the other car i had him stop at the matrix. He won't guarantee the matrix though.

At Tint World they told me there is nothing to do about it, but I have heard of people painting black over the dot matrix and then tinting the non painted parts of the window. I just got it tinted over. Yeah it does bubble but you can only tell when your up close.

The only exhaust mod that will give you appreciable power gains is a long tube header setup. If you can't swing a full set up I would just go with axle-backs because if you go cat-back now then eventually get long tube headers the cat back won't mate up to it. Then you'll either have to have things cut and welded or you'll have an un-needed cat-back system.

I don't like the washer mod but that's just me. Lots of folks have done it and are happy with the result.

I know you asked wreck but I would go with the LT headers even though I believe they would be the quietest with stock mufflers. If you need more sound then pick up some Corsa mufflers and it should be pretty darn loud. This is figuring you get a header system that goes all the way to your axle-backs.

I also heard a kinda cheap way to make good sound is to remove the resonators and put in an H or X pipe. There is a thread on it somewhere on this board.

Axle-backs seem to me like the way to go for now, i can install myself. I don't think i can install headers myself so that adds to cost. Labor isn't cheap.

Any company out there make a good set axle-backs with quad tips. I don't like the oval or double tip look on kooks or pypes.

Well i did 3 DYNO runs on stock at cartek, trying to get a good baseline for benchmarking mods.

I'd like to get some stock 1/4 mile times recorded too but it seems the only drag strip around here is countyline dragway, and i'ts only a 1/8 mile track. You guys know any strips in south florida that i could go to?

I think you will be at the max of what superchips can handle with those mods.

Unless you start driving in Reverse then throw in into drive, or something crazy like that.

I believe the show starts at 5, and people start leaving around 10 or so, not entirely 100% sure though...

As far as exhausts, I'm not sure if any of the G8s that will be there have any aftermarket exhausts, as the only one I've seen with it is wreckwriter's (very nice setup btw) but he won't be there. Mine is still stock, as mentioned. I'm really leaning towards the Corsa myself (I know, many say overpriced, but whatever I enjoy burning money on this car :) and I really like the Corsa sound), but it might be a while until I get mine.

There's a red G8 that is almost always there, but I am pretty sure the only performance mod he has is a CAI, although he has a lot of nice engine bay trim from jamesbiz (Billet Prototypes, he also shows up to the show sometimes) which I think looks great and am also intending on putting on mine.

Ughhh... Looks like I'll head to the track in that case. I need some numbers.

He's actually a mobile tint guy. I believe he uses Premium Tech tints or something similar. He did a great job on my G8. As for the clear bra, no I have not seen any work close up but I do know he has done many installs. Including some celebrities cars. Pm me if you want his info. You can talk to him and work something out.
