This might be a stupid question but whats the difference in the gears Does it just make 0-60 times quicker, dreg times etc. or does it affect top end

You'll find better throttle response(or should I say it'll feel like it), and better acceleration if you can find traction. So 0-60, 1/4 mile, etc... You'll lose a touch on MPG and you'll lose top end though with the electronic limiter set so low the car would likely still hit 140 even with the steeper gearing.

I know opinions may vary, but putting gears in my Trans Am was the best mod I think I ever did. Cars are usually geared from the factory for a combination of fuel economy and accel thuse a higher rear gear (numerically lower).

Considering we have a 2.92 in the stock GT's, you're going to see a pretty big jump in the RPM's at cruising speeds. Your city mileage shouldn't change much but highway is going to get hurt with that much of a jump in gearing. I'd guess 2-3 mpg at 60-70, but maybe someone that has a similar set up can chime in.

2.92, 3.73, 3.70 are all just different rear gears, all are a ratio to 1. So 2.92:1, which means that to turn the rear axle one time the DS has to turn 2.92 times. Since its easier to change the rear gear than it is to change tranny ratios people just change the rear gear which effectly changes each gear. So with a lower gear such as a 4.10 you're going to get fewer MPH in each gear and have to turn a higher RPM. The opposite then applies if you go with a higher gear (numerically lower) such as a 2.72 or something like that. It lengthens each gear and gives you higher top end and at any given speed you'll be turning fewer RPM.
