I think with the extra weight a 1/4 mile under 14.0 stock will be pushing it.

A stock Commodore has already done a 13.4 1/4 mile.

I just saw that post. A 13.4 stock is very impressive.

Does anyone have a link to the post or video about the 13.4 quarter mile time?

Not bad, but I think we are going to get a TBSS instead. Lot more room, can tow 6500lbs, and not much slower. Yeah, the interior is the typical hard plastic crap, but I guess I can get over it.

Pontiac should have announced the GXP model at the same time, with at least 400hp to give the SRT8s some competition.

I think the G8 will replace the GTO when I have kids, but that is at least 3 years down the road, so who knows what will be on the market.

I am beginning to think that close to 4000 pounds may not be so bad. It will be like an anvil on wheels, solid and tight. Maybe not as fast as my Goat, but it will be the ultimate road car!!

Take THAT BMW!! :p

The problem is the LS2 is not going to be around after next year, so they can't just put that in temporarily for a year because it costs a lot of money to certify it. The new engine will probably debut in the base C6 and top line Camaro and the GXP. It would be stupid of them to announce the top engine almost 2 years before you can buy it.

Don't the HSV cars have the LS2???

So this G8 V8 is that much better than the LS2?? You would be press to grab 450RWHP out of a GTO with just a CAM and a Tune... unless you meant a great big ETC like all the other bolt ons. A 100 RWHP CAM is a biggie.

Yes but not for much longer, like said earlier starting a new model with a discontinued engine will not be a smart move...People who will buy this car want good mpg as well as power, plus GM will need to meet the future CAFE standards ect. Those of us who want more power will have plenty of options if we want to mod the cars..6.0 is a pretty good starting point to build on ;)

I think that 450hp is VERY doable with just cam and headers based on the 6.0L shortblock (assuming it has at least 10:1 compression ratio) and the L92 heads. There have been multiple magazine article buildups on these setups that have put out over 500hp.

Head over to LS1Tech.com and check out their L92 section.

If that's true (13.4 is the best time run) it's similar to the 12.9s (fastest stock time)for the LS2 GTOs. Seeing that most stock GTO's run 13.3s or so with decent drivers, the G8 should be about .5 sec slower on average.

If that's true, the G8 should run around 13.8 in the 1/4 mile by the average driver.
