I think one thing that they missed the boat with on the GTO was a proper marketing and product placement ideas. Maybe we should list off some thing that may help the image of the G8.

I was thinking for one, GM should get it in a movies and TV shows with a strong 25-40 male demographic. The show would also need to have a lot of driving involved. Shows like The Shield or 24. If you saw Jack Bauer or Vic Mackey driving around in a G8 for most of a season, I think it'll really appeal to the male crowd that'd latch onto this vehicle. The Shield used the Dodge Charger before, so a G8 would make a great replacement.

As far as movies, Die Hard 4 would be a good example too, get John McClane into one. Too bad they just finished filming.

Just some thoughts, anyone else got any?

24 does use GM's too.

And they are still filming Season 6 right now. Maybe have Jack have to use one late in the Season?

GM get on this!

I'm guessing since they are going to show all the episodes back to back with no weeks off and no repeats that they are done shooting season 6.

No they are still wrapping up the end of it. They held a contest recently to appear in an episode this season, so obviously still being filmed unless they started Season 7 which I doubt they did without a break between.

How about all they show is a video close up of a wheel doing a burn out for the whole comercial. I bet that will get everyones blood flowing.:sneaky:

That would have been a great Super Bowl commercial teaser for the G8.

LOL that's the first ad they had for the GTO :gr_jest:

Apparently testosterone filled ads don't work too well. I think what would be really cool is if they show a MILF load up the car with a couple of kids in the backseat and groceries in the trunk and then have her take off at warp speed while merging onto a freeway escaping from the semi truck barreling its way down the highway trying to crush her. Advertise it as a safety feature to avoid the dangers of daily life. Ignore the part about how dangerous street racing is, because that will come up on it's own and will create even more buzz for Pontiac and how scary fast their cars are. It'll work to build up a bad boy image.

How about a high speed chase scene on a show like 'Prison Break.'

I would also maybe have a 'Rides' dedicated to maybe the making of this car or give it to a tuner shop to modify it.

Give out a whole bunch so a lot of examples are available at SEMA this year.

Also, and this is something that would have to be regulated at a dealership level- low to no markups and be willing to let people drive it- it will be tough to be amazed with a car that you cant drive.

The GTO was in Desperate Housewives, they had half your idea there. :D

Any marketing at all would have to be better than what the GTO received.

I have a feeling were going to see a whole lot of the Gx car family commercials.

I agree - like the G6 commercials where they're all spinning around in some black abyss, and you see the coupe, sedan and droptop.

I think they need to bring some excitement back with the G8 ad campaign...maybe a redux of the classic Trans Am commercial where it pulls up behind a sports car at a stoplight and swallows it up through one of its nostrils. :)

I agree with putting it in some kind of big budget Hollywod movie. In one of the clips for Smokin' Aces, you see a chase scene with a Chrysler 300C. Complete with the appropriate fast music. Subliminal advertising. The ads for the GTO were good, IMO. Sure, they weren't all about the power. Somewhat about arrogance. As for the G8, there should be some tight shots. Don't show the brand logo or name. Show a link at the end where people can go online & see the car for themselves.

I think the G8 should be marketed to the young and middle ages...i can almost bet you that a high school crowd may start sweeping these up like the GTO....i mean there are QUITE a few people under 21 just in my area with goats

Well IIRC, Bob Lutz said they were going to try and price the G8 in the mid 20s... Thats basically the 18-35 range, so marketing this as a street eating, sports sedan is likely the route they'll go. I don't suspect GM will try and market this against the Accord or something. The styling alone screams fast...

I expect some macho muscle advertisements, what with the Challenger and Camaro on the way.. this IS the horsepowered V8 solution for anyone looking for a sedan.

Either that or the high school kids will be sweeping up used GTOs that were traded in for G8s.

I like the 'Rides' idea. Maybe that test drive show they have on Speed (can't remember the name). I love when they have the cars going around the track. I don't know how large the audience is for these shows. Need some way to market it to women. Probably be alot more female interest in this car..
