It was over very fast and I was not trying to race. He was behind me as we had cars on both sides of us. I had one more light to go until my turn off so I just thought I would show him what I had since he was checking me out - not thinking that I would have even had a chance in a side by side. Personally, I still find it hard to believe that a G8 (even modded slightly like mine) would have had much of a chance side by side with a base vette. It was just funny watching him lay into it as he tried to stay on my ass.

The road is a three lane in our direction. I was in the middle and had to migrate to the right hand lane at the end for my turn off so at that point he was in the lane next to me. I expected him to blow by but it did not happen. Maybe he was just trying to be nice to me. :)

In reality I was probably closer to 90+ MPH but I have to admit I was not looking down too much as I was watching for him to blow by me. Luckily the turn off for my exit is a sweeping off ramp so I did not have to slam on the brakes too hard.

I have not missed 3rd one time since I installed the callaway short throw shifter. I did miss 3rd a couple times before the shifter though...... a manual takes driving skill to a whole new level. way more fun IMO.

Of course I only drive my vette one way....like I stole it and mine has seen some 3500rpm launches at the strip that resulted in some 1.7x 60' on street tires. I really hope I can run across a g8 someday in the vette. Might even have the wife run me in mine just to see how it stacks up. both are just about evenly modded. My C6 is a lowly LS2, with LG headers, catted x-pipe, Corsa Extreme catback, LG tune, and Callaway Honker CAI.

The G8 has the Rotofab and VMS tunes.

Maybe I'll have a friend I trust enough drive the G8 and have someone ride with me and video.

The only Vette that wanted to play with me was a C5 Z06....but at the time I was not in the mood to get my ass kicked.

Hardly. A stock C6 LS3 6A will trap a MINIMUM 5mph higher than him on any given day.

There's a pretty decent difference between an LS2 and LS3 Vette. And there's a decent difference between a stock car and one with a buncha mods.

The only Vettes I have seen drive aggressively are ZO6's.

The guy more than likely didn't know how to drive or was running bloogne skins for tires....

GTO's are better match for the vettes off the line especially auto vs. auto w/ the gto's having the clear advantage with the lower gearing.

I've driven C6 vettes and I've owned a GTO w/ mods, and I have an '08 GT (hell I've also owned 3 FAST street bikes) and there is no way in hell you mistake the way a C6 pulls vs. a G8, you're talking like a3/4 second in the 1/4

Like I said before, it looked pretty new and he looked like some spoiled little rich kid with his new toy. I was not trying to race, just show him what I could do with my much less expensive car. He probably did not know what he was doing and like others have said he would have whipped me had I not had to turn off and we kept running. None the less, it is still nice to know that some simple mods to a base GT can create a true sleeper that can at least run with the big dogs off the line.

I never said this was a "kill" I just did not know what section to post what I thought was an interesting little run. I have said twice now that I was not trying to race this guy. I was in the center lane of three and he moved over to get behind me at the light. I took off from the light and he followed. I immediately moved over to right lane so that I could make my right turn which was fast approaching so he was now no longer behind me. I was expecting to see him blow by with a big grin on his face but he never got into the right powerband to do so.

Again, to all you corvette owners, I not trying to suggest that a G8 is going to beat one so calm down. It is simple physics - the vette has more power and weighs a lot less. I just found it amuzing that there are at least a few guys out there that do not know how to drive one and I was able to hold him off with my car after only putting about $1500 in mods in it. If I did not have two little kids at home I would likely be driving a vette too, but for now....

My point for posting this thread was not to diss the vette or over-inflate the G8's performance. Just to tell a funny story of this guy who thought he was going to get an easy kill got a little more than he bargained for. I guess the next time I see him around he will be a little more agressive off the line :)

Racing isn't just about a car, it's also about the driver. A wins a win. G8 or not. If that's the Case I'd just pull up and ask him for his stats and call it a day.

I was only kidding, don't take it personal. On every forum that has anything to do with LS powered vehicles I read the same sorta kill stories lol. I respect each and every car and owner. As I said there may be a G8 in my driveway soon. Junior is already talking about which mods to go with. We have quite a bit of experience with LS mods. Probably first thing would be a set of American Racing Headers, exhaust, intake and tune! (Juniors TBSS was used for the headers they just designed for the TBSS's). In a few weeks there's going to be a GTO VS. Corvette day at Englishtown's Raceway Park and I'm going to whoop some GTO butt. So no disrespect meant and no hard feelings. Take it easy and enjoy your car!

Thats the good thing about running on the street. The car that isnt supposed to win can pull it out. Even with your mods a LS2 or LS3 vette is still way out of reach. Go find a stock C5 and see how you do, that should be a better run for ya. Just dont mistake a LS6 C5Z for a LS1 coupe :).

I myself love Vettes sometimes I wish I had bought one instead of the 8 but I have a child so the Vette will have to wait. I agree that a stock G8 is no match for stock C6 but anything can happen on the street but I don't see why a lightly modded (bolt-on) G8 could not be a match for a stock C6? I know you are comparing stock to moddified but that will happen with match ups on the street or track. I even agree in this situation the C6 will still have an advantage but it is now much closer which will bring it down to the driver. My best track time (in sig) would put me in the top 1/3 of the stock C6 fast list on the corvetteforum so it is not out of the question that it could happen.

I've got an intake and tune on my G8. I've got headers, catback, intake and tune on my C6. I'd say my G8 would give my C6 a run till about 60 due to the aggressive gearing, then it would be all over. They were both pretty disappointing in stock form.

I don't feel like going through old posts but I wouldn't have pulled it out of thin air. I don't really care which is faster to be quite frank. I think they're both awesome cars. And yes a moderately modded G8 can certainly hang with a poorly driven C6 in the quarter mile. A botched launch is nearly impossible to overcome when the cars are within even a second of eachother.

Shoot I opened up a can of worms here. Again I didn't mean any disrespect to G8 owners. Junior may be getting one very soon to replace his GTO. I used to read the TBSS forums that I'm on too about how they took on Vettes. Also there's an upcoming GTO VS. Corvette day at Englishtown that I'll be at. All I'm saying is keep it real. Heck I could probably be whooped by a stock G8 right now as I'm traction challenged after the blower install. ( I have a set of Mickey thompsons on order!) So nows the time for you G8 owners to take advantage of me lol!

VTEC actually allows for engines to be run without gasoline, but the oil companies paid off Honda to make VTEC engines dump gas out to make people think they were using gas.

This post cracks me up. First of all let me start by saying that between my son and myself we own 4 LS based vehicles with various mods from mild to wild. Junior is in the process of getting a G8GT as I write this, so I'm definitely not hating or knocking anyones ride. I really love the G8's! For some reason there's always someone comparing their modded car or truck to a stock C6 for some reason. Here was a guy in a G8 "IN FRONT OF" a guy with a C6. (Probably in his way LOL). Come on if you're really going to race someone lets do it fairly, mod for mod and side by side. As far as the 50 year old comments I'm 53 and I don't race every time someone starts revving his engine at a light. Most times I'll just wave him on. It's called maturity and knowing when and where. I will take on a challenge on occasion when the time is right. Enjoy your cars and be safe.

I'm a good deal younger than you but have to agree. Theres a time and a place for everything and it seems maturity plays a big role.

Its one thing to "play" a little on the street but there are morons who think they are the worlds best driver, lots of experiance, yadda yadda yadda and think they can street race anywhere anytime.

By this posters own admission there were a number of other cars on the street and the vette was behind him unable to go around, not the time or place.

The vette owners race just like anyone else but being as the the vast majority are older they are mature enough to do most of it at the track.

Yes, your G8 with an intake, tune, and headers could give a stock C6 a run in the quarter mile. It would depend what stock C6s are running at the track you achieved your time at.

And the opinion here seems to be that mod for mod, or even stock vs stock, a G8 is a good match for a C6 which is just not the case.

I've got an intake and tune on my G8. I've got headers, catback, intake and tune on my C6. I'd say my G8 would give my C6 a run till about 60 due to the aggressive gearing, then it would be all over. They were both pretty disappointing in stock form.

Just don't think all Vette owners are snobs, and don't know how to use their car to its potential :wink2:

Dude unless you ride rice rockets all day long or have a ZR1, Enzo, and bugatti in your stable too A stock C6 is not exactly what I would call "DISAPPOINTING" in stock form........I mean it can do low 12's stock, that's F'n fast, I've driven C6 LS2 vettes, owned an LS1 GTO, 2 600CC sportbikes, and now have a G8GT...............the vette is fast F'n car no matter what stock or otherwise.

My C6 was "livable" after the full exhaust too. Then came the cam, heads, gears, and Vortech Supercharger. Gonna go with Junior tomorrow and pick up his new G8GT! I'll see how it stacks up against a C6. LOL.

I had planned on an A&A Vortech kit in the spring but doesn't look like it's going to happen anymore.

Probably because I can't get the power to the ground! My new 345 35 18 Mickey Thopmsons came today. Now I have to wait till mid April for the 18" x 12" Reproduction Z06 wheels to get here.
