: G8 boogs down @ launch/WOT, is it normal?

I have had my G8 since December. I have 4000 miles on it & had first oil change about 3 weeks ago. After engine break in, I decided to race a friend in his stock 2001 camaro (v6). Put G8 in sport mode and at start floored it, the car did not launch for a good second. Camaro had good jump & got me @ start, but I was easily able to catch and pass him once it hit 3rd. We tried this numerous times, in sport mode (traction control off and on), manual (traction control off and on) even in normal. Camaro had me everytime. G8 had no tire chrip or spin. Its a little embrassing getting beat @ the line everytime.

I have taken it in twice to dealer, first they did TCM update, 2nd time they said nothing was wrong. Is this normal?

Try rolling into the throttle.

If all else fails, get a tune?

Hmm, that's weird. Even stock, my car would launch pretty well. Now with the VMS tune, the car jumps off the line, and then the 1-2 chirp. Something sounds odd.

Normal, Needs a trans tune. That was a big gripe of mine when I got the car too.

What octane are you running? I agree that it is probaly TM as well. Our INTENSE G8 ECM Tune (http://intense-racing.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=IR&Product_Code=G8-ECM-2008&Category_Code=G8_Electronics) addresses these issues as well many others including the speed limiters, very rich stock AFR etc.. I thought my 09 was bad ass when I got it but a Roto-Fab intake and our tune (availably as a Performance Package (http://intense-racing.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=IR&Product_Code=IPP-G81&Category_Code=G8_PP)) REALLY put a smile on my face.

Mine does about the same. It will launch but not hard enough to spin the tires. I haven't tried it yet, but maybe try spinning it up to about 2000 RPm with your foot holding the brake and then launch.

Also make sure the car is in gear BEFORE you start the race. I know it takes a few seconds for it to fully engage into gear when you select it. So if your starting in nutral and then shifting and flooring it, then what you are experienceing is normal.

I am assuming that you have the V-6. I experienced the car being a dog, when I bought it, but now that she is broken in, she takes off like a bat out of hell. I have not raced a car at the line, but have done the sports shift pedal to the floor at the light. She launched pretty good without the bog down feel and was at 85 pretty quickly in 3rd gear. I'll try it again this week and really pay attention to the launch and see what I get. I'll post again with my results.

The V6 5 Spd does not have the TCM problem that the V8 6 spd did. There is no update for the 5 spd. Or at least not one that I have found.

Also there is no one that I know of in the states that is tuning the V6. There are a few down under but none over here.

As for the V6, with just a oil change to RP and a Magna Flow prototype cat back system, I was able to pull a 14.8 at 101 MPH as per my GTech. 0-60 times average of 4 runs was 6.5.

I'm syer I can get better as the 1/4 mile times were in Sport mode and just nailing it. No brake hold and reving it to 2000 RPM's. CHP interupted my testing. ;)

I hope CHP understood you were only trying to acquire data for us. :)
Is Magna Flow selling the cat back system for the V6 yet? If they are, how much are they going for?

Last I talked with them, they said they may just sell it as a off road package. No new news lately.

There is a really bad drone around 1500 RPM's, about 50 MPH in 5th gear. You can't hold a conversation or hear the raido unless it's cranked up, you have to down shift, it's that bad. Also the Frequency of the drone interfers with the bass in the stereo, that's how low it is. That's where the main problem is that they are trying to figure out.

Down shifting is OK when I drive, but the wife isn't too hapy about it when she drives. She just wants to get in and drive.

Luckly I saw the CHP in time and didn't get stopped. I was just setting up to try and launch it at 2000 RPM's when I saw him coming up the road behind me. So I just slowly moved on down the road. ;)
