: '08 G37
IU GT 02-16-2009, 05:51 PM Killed what I believe was a 08 G37 a couple weeks ago. We were at a light waiting to turn left on to a 4 lane divided highway. He was in the right lane with 2 cars behind him, so I moved over into the empty left lane. The light changed to green just as I stopped, so I casually made the turn. I was talking to the passenger in my stock GT, so I hadn't noticed what was beside me.
Once we got on the highway and our front wheels were straight (15-20mph), I heard his engine scream, so I floored it. At that point, my front bumper was at his front door. Several seconds later, when I let off the gas at 80 mph, his front bumper was behind my rear bumper.
After I let off, he passed me a second or so later, engine screaming for any last bit of dignity he could salvage. We both settled down, and 1/2 mile later at the next light I saw a lone 20-something kid in the G37 doing everything he could to avoid looking over at me.
In hindsight, I shouldn't have done it. That stretch of highway is notorious for having cops camp out and wait for speeders. However, I wish I would've been in Sport mode to see what kind of beatdown I REALLY could've laid on him.
The Commodore 02-16-2009, 05:56 PM Good kill...I want to race one too.
Are you stock?
And welcome to the board.
IU GT 02-16-2009, 06:11 PM Thanks, I've been watching this board for a month or so, just now joined.
Yep, totally stock. Love the blue on your GT. I would've picked that color if I had a choice, but the only one in my area was Liquid Red. I like the red well enough, but the blue is just insanely cool!

It's rare to see a G8....but I have never seen another one with my color.
quitplayn 02-16-2009, 08:38 PM Is that color rare? I have only seen one on the road.

I honestly have no idea. I have seen none out of the say 13 G8s I have seen on the road.
I know Stealth Blue is very rare.
no avg g8GT 02-17-2009, 12:17 PM Just so you know there were only 591 stealth blue G8 made in 08. 51% being the V8 GT model and 49% being the v6. so thats means you and i are one of those 301 that exist in the GT!!! no matter how many picture i take the camera has a hard time getting the color right!! LOL If you guys want great info on our cars go to G8nation.com

If you have Stealth Blue...then I'm not with you...
I have Stryker Blue which is a 09 color.
You have the more rare color. SRG has your color too.

Blue is the rarest, then Ignition Orange, White Hot, etc...
foxbat 02-17-2009, 09:49 PM i have not ran a g37, but my buddy at work has one and he drives like a madman. i took him for a ride in my g8 when i just got it a few months back and i floored it from about 10 mph, and he was shocked at how powerful the g8 was. he said he's not going to race my car :D
97DARKKNIGHT 02-18-2009, 10:56 AM This past weekend a G37S was showing off around me so i decided to show him he isnt the biggest car on the street. there was so many cars that we couldnt line them up and when the oppurtunity came he decided to cut off another car so we couldnt be next to each other then took off knowing i was stuck behind cars. i was pissed that his form of racing was weaving in and out of traffic instead of lining the cars next to each other. ill chalk that one to another scared ricer.with my mods i know i would have murdered him. i beleive his was an '09 since it still had temp tag.
DragoonRaven 02-18-2009, 09:17 PM I would have figured a G37 would be dead even on a G8 GT... 330 horsepower, (maybe) less weight, a manual transmission option.
This is moderately refreshing to know, but there's still the 370Z to worry about now...
SpectreG8GT 02-18-2009, 09:19 PM I do NOT get the hype behind the G35 and G37 at all.

+1
I don't even think they look good to be honest. The new sedans look good IMO though.
SpectreG8GT 02-18-2009, 09:20 PM The Nissan 350Z and 370Z look way better IMO
edit: to be honest, I don't understand infinity at all. Lexus I get, because Toyota is crap to begin with. But Nissan is actually pretty cool.

All you have to so is keep up with the 370Z and then point to your back seats or better yet your back doors....that should get you a birdie.
rlrayl11 02-19-2009, 12:17 AM Hey IU GT, just wondering from your name if you go to IU down in Bloomington? I don't go there (actually just graduated from Purdue) but I'm down there all the time to visit my fiance. I drive a MGM GT, usually parked on 9th and Lincoln. Just wondering If you've seen me and if you're in Bloomington, I'll keep on the lookout for you. I haven't seen any other G8s at all there.

I graduated from IU in '96. I live in Ellettsville now and work at a building on Curry pike. I don't get into the B-town limits very often, I mostly drive between work and home.
There are a few other G8's running around here. So far, I've seen:
-Another liquid red G8 on SR46
-An ignition orange G8 on SR37 headed north (have seen it twice)
-A gray G8 on 465 in Indy
There was a panther black G8 for sale in the Curry lot in Ellettsville for quite a while, but it's gone now. Haven't seen it on the road yet.

You're the exact opposite of me, I was surprised he stayed that close until I did some research on his car.
Either way, I was once again happy that my G8 had the upper hand. I've had quite a few people try to race me, but the G37 was my best example, so it's the only one I've posted.

I basically did that with a 2009 Mustang GT today. My friend just got a very sharp blue one with the hood scoop. That car looks hot.
He wanted to race, so I obliged him, knowing that his 0-60 time was slightly quicker, even with less HP and torque than my G8 GT.
I stayed right with him...but he certainly let me know after the fact that he DID beat me.
He wasn't so ****y when I reminded him that he only beat me by the length of one of my REAR doors.

Sorry...I didn't realize the filters were that strict. ****y is another word for a male chicken, plus a "y".

If he was not pulling on you then I say your cars are about even. The one door difference was probably due to delayed launch on your part. And yeah the bleeping system on this board sucks.

I could've been that gray one on 465, I feel like I'm always on 465.

did you have your shifter in sport mode? you should have walked him like he going in reverse if you got past 100mph and more.

Yep, I was in sport, but we didn't get over 85. It was a quick race, the cops love patrolling around here.:judge:

Gray GT with tint on 465 south (east side) on a Sunday last August or so? If so, it probably was you. My wife and I looked over to give the thumbs up, but whoever was driving didn't look over.
JTSnooks 02-20-2009, 09:34 PM I haven't had a race with a G35/G37 yet, and they're all over the place here! I might've had a shot at a G35 tonight, but I scared the crap out of him when I went WOT under and overpass right next to him. Muffler deletes will do that... he backed way off after that quick burst :gr_jest:
Good kill :)

go to the dragstrip or find a road where you won't hurt anyone else or get pulled over and run his ass again past 85.....i guarantee you you will bust his ass like a raped ape. mustangs are marginally quicker 0-80 or so, but above that, the g8's higher hp/tq, gearing, and long legs start running away

Unfortunately, the closest drag strips are about 45 minutes to an hour away from here, and I'm not that concerned about it to convince him to go there.
Also, the sensible part of me (which continues to grow larger as I get older) can't bring me to do that kind of speed on a public road.
Like many have said on this board, there's always someone with a faster car. Like most people, and I'm sure you agree, I don't have to win every time.
I'm just glad that I can get my sports car and family car in the same sedan. My previous car, a '97 Olds 88, was a great car, but it obviously only took care of one of those needs.
