Looking at the pics of the interior and seeing the gauges. Is the oil pressure going to stay as bars or will it be converted to psi? Just a metric/standard button again as in the GTO?

Just curious...

I would have though it would be converted. But, it would be cool if it could convert from metric to English measures like the goat. DY posted a pic of a guage pod with 3 guages in place of that digital readout. Another HSV exclusive.

I looked at changing my console to take the HSV 3 gauge pod but the console in the SSV is one piece and in the HSv it's two. The cost to do the change over was huge so I designed up my own 2 gauge pod for my car which I am now selling the kits.

Have a look in here (http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?t=351) for details and pics.

Wonder if the orange lighting will make it over. It would be nice to see that again. The GTO should have had that.

The gauge pod looks good :)

I guess the real question should be, are the G8 GT's going to get the center gauges period. I haven't seen any photos that would suggest that so far. Remember only the GT's would be able to get these gauges b/c on the V6 models Radio information is displayed on this screen. Also if the GT's don't get the gauges I wonder how hard or how much it would cost to purchase a set and install them.

Edit: Something not really worth mentioning but, this photo must have been on a long shutter opening. Take a look at the last number on the track display. It's displaying both a 3 and 4.

The SV6 and SS don't have the centre bar gauges but the SSV does.

The kit I'm selling allows the SV6 and SS owners to have two gauges and the SSV owners to have another two gauges giving 4 in total.

My binnacle kit installation is totally seperate from any wiring in the car so it can be removed and the original parts replaced when the vehicle is sold.

The bar gauges are farily inaccurate when compared to the gauges I use with the binnacle kit...

yes!

i sure hope the g8's end up getting the cherry red gauges, thats one thing i always loved about pontiac... i guess if we get the gto style gauges we could always do a light swap? and isnt there a set of upper center console gauges (pods) you can get and would they work for the g8?

Im not a big fan of the guage pods, and i think the red/orange looks good. i think the guages are the silve/white during w/ lights off and red/orange w/ lights on.

Is oil & volts all this screen is going to show? I never got that question answered! I was hoping it would be like the GP, just with a bigger screen. The screen in the GP is so cool! If the G8's screen shown just oil & volts that would be a dissapointment(#2. #1 was lack of HUD).

In both the pilot and production cars i've been in they still had oil pressure in BAR so.... :(

On the GTO, the speedo is switchable between kph and mph, so it would be simple enough to toggle the other display units that way with the DIC menu.

That doesnt work, they still show BAR in MPH...

sccaGTO

If some of you are mathematically inclined, just remember the conversion. 1 BAR = ~14.5 PSI. So, at 3 BAR, the engine has 43.5 PSI.

From all of the pics I have seen of the speedo on the G8 I've only seen mph displayed. Since I live in Germany this will be a necessity since we go by kilometers over here. From how the speedo gauge looks it looks to be switchable but it would be best to know definitely.

I wish i could get back in that spirit. After i saw that they wasted an entire screen for just 2 small bits of info(oil and volts) and then saw lack of HUD, Both the Grand Prix has or has better(the info screen is smaller in the GP but displays way more info!), i was discouraged. How could they have missed all this? So far the RWD config is the only factor standing between me rejectin the G8 and stickin with my GP.

Go back and read some of the old posts. Pontiac didn't "miss it", they didn't get into Holden's design cycle early enough.

Holden was planning a new Commodore for at least 3 years before it actually went on sale. After the GTO/Monaro partnership, GMNA decided to get Holden to design the Commodore to be capable of meeting all necessary US regulations. Apparently, Holden is wiser than everyone expected. Since Pontiac wanted the Monaro, they had already planned for the important stuff (emissions, crash worthiness, etc.) to meet US regulations. But, US consumers might have wanted more than what is offered in Australia. This is why the dashboard is mostly a carryover & we don't have some options (sat. radio, HUD, Bluetooth).

Yeah I know what you mean about that screen. It doesn't make sense that all of that space is wasted on just an oil and battery gauge. They needed to make that display to where it can display all kinds of info like inst/avg mpg, average speed & distance, est travel time, clock, etc. The G8 does have a few minor flaws. The lack of xenon lights is what gets me the most. I really wanted my next car ,especially a new one, to have xenons. Just about every new car in this segment has xenons as an option. Considering that this is suppose to be Pontiac's flagship the lack of xenons on the G8's option list is just not acceptable. Even park sensors should be an option as well. It's not that I need them but for my wife it would come in handy since she would be the one driving it the most. But the reason why I'm still excited about the G8 is because it's still the bang for the buck. I've been waiting for an American company to finally build a rear wheel drive performance sedan like this. I've had my eyes set on an Charger SRT8 but it costs more so I wouldn't be able to mod it like I would like to. The G8 is priced just right. I can get that and spend a little more loot on some mods. I'm looking forward to getting a G8 GT. It'll be white with the premium package, sunroof, and all weather tires.

Rue_G8GT and others, the small display up top is used as the radio read out for the base G8 and Holden Omega when it does not have the 6.5" screen for the radio and climate control functions (when it has the old dial and push button versions).

For some reason they did not come up with other functions for the top screen, and even the Oz magazines complained about it on the SS and SS-V models, but at least the HSV version got real gauges in that location.

As for the Nav screen, USA GM decided not to put it in due to a DOT recommendation for height, if you look at some other cars, it is very close, but in any case they went with the recommendation instead of installing it.

XM and bluetooth were not ready in time for launch, but will be on the 2009 cars, this is in the 2009 thread and on dealerworld now.

Well chin up to everyone who feels like me and Rue G8 GT. They havent released the top of the line GXP yet. Maybe theyll fix these flaws for this model. Who knows, it might turn out technologically better than the Bonneville GXP! U no how futuristic that vehicle looked on the inside!

Thanks for the info man! Yeah we're going to try and get a 2009 one so that we can get the bluetooth. The display isn't really that big of an issue to me to make me not want to buy one. It's a flaw but it's one I can live with. Analog gauges would've been better but I'm sure they're reserving that for the GXP model.

I don't know about the Bonneville but I've driven my brother's 2006 Grand Prix GXP once and I liked it alot especially the HUD, paddle shifters, and multi-info display. I do hope as well as you DollarBill that some of the issues that the Base and GT G8 has they will address them on the GXP model. Replacing the digital gauge with analog gauges would be a start.

I've already decided that if I get the GXP, I'll be putting in an aftermarket nav system and just have it installed at the top of the stack. The battery/oil bar display is useless IMO.

I think it has been addressed above me. If you have time and want to do more reading, search on user rlsedition both here and on Clubgp.com. He was involved in the early part of the G8/Holden work. He talks about the disappointment some of the Pontiac guys had when they realized that Holden had already progressed to far in work (without major cost overruns in certain areas) to go back and design in HUD, etc. Bluetooth is different in that I believe that has been a major issue with Onstar across the board for a few years. It looks like it is being fixed across GM over the next year.

That is my thought. I think I will replace the useless PACMAN display with lcd display ala Mercedes. Could even do a carpc.

I don't think that would be an issue. The cluster is much easier to disassemble compared to GTO. And it uses same LEDs as GTO cluster. I've been playing with them for a couple of days now.:)

Hopefully Chris White will be able to offer color changes to the gauges.

No, which pisses me off! All buttons, center stack and other items are still warm red, but the gauge dials themselves are white.

To Pontiac reading this, WTF are you doing? You did this on the GTO and people bitched, and now you're doing it on the G8! Pontiac's trademark is WARM RED main dials with orange needles. Not only is it a Pontiac tradmark, but it's damn sexy, as well as easy and clearly visible to the human eye in the dark.

Hopefully CW will be able to correct this!

I was/am actually happy with the GTO's white dash guages. You can show me all the proof that red is easier to see or whatever, but white works best for me. I do find it odd that the G8 guages are white light, but if you get the 2-tone interior, there is a red ring around the speedo & tach. Seems odd.
