: Restrictive intake?

Has anyone else noticed the intake tube on the G8 yet? It looks like it has at least 2 extra baffles on it, probably to reduce intake noise. Intake would be one of the first mods I'd consider if I had the G8. Maybe there will be a "Ram Air" version intake on the GXP version later.

Secondly, anyone else think the engine cover is a bit much? Cripes it's like opening the hood to find a second hood under there. ;)

It's got a whole box on it. Maybe a resonator? It's to quiet the whole engine. It's a family car. Some people(Non-entheusiasts) don't want to hear a loud exhaust with kids in the car on the hour+ drive to Disney. On the other hand, the people on this site will want to swap that out(hopefully the whole thing) for something a little(read: a lot) louder. The only thing that would hinder the removal of said PITA box would be a computer in there, like in the Bonnie GXP. My dad and I tried to hack the box in my mom's car, and discovered this nasty little surprise. If we really wanted to, we could probably re-mount the computer, but kiss the warranty good-bye.

 whats a warranty?
this car should still be pretty easy to mod and make some good power

Oh, it'll make some great power with an intake, exhaust, and a 91 octane tune.

I think he was talking about modding the Bonnie, and comparing the box in there to what is going to be in the G8

Thanks for clearing that up. Even I was getting confused.

Almost all stock intakes are restrictive... This is nothing new.

There are some things that are on the show car that aren't gonna be on the street car. As for FRCs, I figured that we might get something like these:

Although, looking at the Commodore press pics, they show that big engine cover on the production Commodore 6.0L engines.

At the Chicago Auto Show they had both the V6 and V8 cut-away engines on display, and the V8 had the full engine/frc cover.

They most likely did that to quiet the noise down even more...we don't really care about noise but the average car buyer does... they want this car to be marketable to more then just the "enthusiast" crowd...

I dont care how loud it is.....I wonder if we will get valvetrain tick from the lifters like on the ls2.....
