: A Take On Tails
Sloloco 03-09-2008, 11:47 PM I'm kinda torn between the base model tails (the reds) and the GT tails (altezza style). The GT's look a alittle to Nissan Ultima to me. I don;t know what I want but I do know that they don't do it for me. Same with the base model G8 tails; they are okay but just dont stand out to me.
What do you guys think?
need4spd 03-10-2008, 12:12 AM I was torn in the beginning, thinking the V6 were better, but I have since decided that I like the more aggressive look of the clears, however, I have yet to see the car in person, like you have and compare the two side by side.
Sloloco 03-10-2008, 12:28 AM It's a real toss up..let mw know what you think when you see them. The base model's look like the old Monaro tails whereas I swear the GT's look a bit rice. Ill take a few close ups this week.
I plan on smoking the GT tails once I get it.
Rue_G8GT 03-10-2008, 10:53 AM I really like the taillights on the Holden Calais V.

I'm hoping that the aftermarket will come out with something like that if not I will eventually tint them a little bit.

I'm hoping that the aftermarket will come out with something like that if not I will eventually tint them a little bit.Believe it or not the Calais V lights are slightly larger with the reflector portion beneath the reverse lights/turn signal (vs at the bottom of the bumper) so they won't fit without changing the rear bumper cover.
From what I can tell there are three bumper covers, the HSV with a low rise to fit the LED lights down lower (and a cover where our tails are), the Calais with a bigger tail light and mid-size rise, and the SS cover (our G8 too) with largest rise and smallest tails....
Rue_G8GT 03-10-2008, 12:43 PM Yeah I know that the Calais lights are larger than the G8s. If you go with the Calais lights you'll have to change the rear bumper as well. I like the design of them though. I'm just hoping that some aftermarket company will make one similar to the Calais design that'll fit to our G8s. LED lighting would be better too.
yevot 03-10-2008, 02:18 PM I think the clear GT covers fit in better with black than any of the other colors.. but I have yet to see any of them in person and I'm biased towards black.
DuBob 03-10-2008, 06:20 PM I'd probably look into tinting them on a black car.
sccaGTO 03-10-2008, 08:10 PM I plan on smoking the GT tails once I get it.
Looks like I will need to buy stock in VHT (nightshades).
chill 03-10-2008, 08:23 PM ill go with the clears, just because i plan to take the lens apart and black out the chrome parts to give it the smoked finish.
chrish

Tell us how that goes. Most are glued together. I don't have the nerve to heat up the lenses to disassemble them. I'm afraid I'd melt them. :gr_jest:

:D i have done it before with a buddy on his ss, very tricky but it worked. and they sealed up good as well without leaking or hazing. it is a scary thought tho... maybe someone will come out with that style blacked out so i can buy them and save the trouble =)

:edit: my buddy also did the same with the euros on his 02' lightning, his worked great too!
asylum 03-10-2008, 10:40 PM i've pulled apart the headlights on my car, and yes its a scary thing sticking a few hundred $$ part in the oven, hoping not to break it!!
archerm3 04-16-2008, 09:23 PM Saw them both up close the other night, I gotta say the GT's clear markers look lots better.
LS2GTO 04-18-2008, 11:19 AM I have to say I prefer the base model tails over the GT however, I would probably nightshade / tint both of them or bake open the GT tails and put halo rings in them like the headlights on the bmws.
