: Decal Removal?

Hey guys, I want my car to stand out a bit, so I'm going to remove the lettering on teh back of my new g8 (once I get one). Back in teh day, we just let the car sit in the Texas sun all day, then in the afternoon the decal could be pulled off. I don't want to use a heat gun in fear of damaging the paint and I no longer live in Texas.

Any suggestions?

yeah bit of heat and you could probably just twist/pry at the for a while and they should come off, or like WhyteSS said, get a bit of fishing line in there.

as for the glue, get as much off as you can by rolling and rubbing, then use prepsol to get rid of the excess residue. probably a good idea to give it a good clean and wax after

Is that what you do when you put them on crooked ?

You on afternoon shift at the moment ?

Hairdryer & fishing line was the prefered method for removing letters on the GTO. I've never read any stories where either messed up the paint.

Done this on my G/P, Googone works well to remove the glue residue.

nah not my area! luckily...

we did do some one the GTO bootlid, but luckily they dont stick down hard straight away, so theres nothing left if you take it off instantly.

would have to be replaced with a new one though, they dont seem to stick down at all after being removed

I heard dental floss works a little better than fishing line.

My plan (so far) is to remove the word "pontiac" from the back and also the GM emblems on the front fenders.

Other thought is to have the letters painted black or dark gray for GT and G8 on the boot lid.

Gotta see it up close first before doing more than my first comment on badge removal.

Thanks Asylum for the tip.

This will be the first thing I do. I think that GM putting these on EVERYTHING is dumb.

Be sure to find out which are on flat surfaces and which have holes behind them before you start removing them.

If you are just talking about stick on decals and not the emblems you shouldn't have a problem using some heat, fishing line/dental floss and some goo gone.

Yeah, this is what I had been wondering. Is EVERY emblem on with an adhesive only? "PONTIAC", "G8", "GT", "GM"s, and the front Pontiac emblem?

no holes anywhere, behind any badge.

maybe the front bumper, but that'd look stupid without it :D

I just debadged my Mini... I put blue painters tape over the letters so they wouldn't fall on the ground all over the place, then just used a hair dryer (Heat gun would work fine too, just keep it moving) to loosen up the adhesive, then ran unwaxed dental floss behind. Remaining residue, adhesive is easily removed with some goo gone, or if it's tenatious, goof off. Neither will harm automotive paint.

Agreed that the name Pontiac will be removed.

I will probably leave the G8 GT but that will be left to when i actually get one. Nothing like waxing around those pesky letters

no they removed all holes when the G8 was being developed, probably so the holden and pontiac badges can go in the same place, as the holes for the holden badge would have been visible.

So Asylum, what is the mix of Holden/Chev/Pontiac on the production line ? Are the Pontiacs in full swing ?

Done any G8 ST's yet ?

Use of a spray detailer while using that fishing line (or dare I say, a brand new, very sharp razor blade) and hair dryer works wonders.

I had to take the Behlmann Pontiac sticker off my decklid when I got the GTO and very carefully with heat, razor, and the spray detailer, got it all off without a scratch and I'm extremely anal retentive about my finish.

I want to know why dealers think that just because you bought a car from them, you would be happy to be a mobile advertisement for them.

I have no stickers on my car, and even when they put a dealer sticker on the outside of the windscreen where the next service sticker goes on the inside, I take it straight off.

the mix has gone crazy last week or so, flat out with every model possible! utes, sedans, WM's, LHD and RHD.... might have to do with start of the 09 build, everyone trying to stock up on the updated models

no news on ST's, we rarely hear anything before the general public!

That annoys me to no end, but I haven't attempted to remove the dealer sticker off my Prix, mostly because I was afraid of marring the paint.

Anyway, we can completely take the badges off the back without holes, very interesting and makes the car pretty stealth, I bet 9 out of 10 would not know it is a Pontiac then (except for the front).

The dealer that I got my GTO from put there sticker on. I had told the salesman not to. :damnyou: When I saw him putting the decal on, I told the salesman that I didn't want that. I got there in time to have him just lift the edge & the whole thing came off.

So does the front bumper cover dart have holes or not? I'd like to remove all badging from mine right when I get it.

Thanks!

The front facia has 3 holes for the badge to locate into there is also double sided tape on the back. Th badge can be removed without damaging the facia but you will need to fill and sand smooth the holes
