: Flowmaster Muffler Fitment
joemac 03-03-2009, 07:43 PM Wanting to tuck a pair of Flowmaster mufflers up under the rear for a budget oriented axle back.
Rough dimensions on the stock muffler are 13.5L x 12W x 6H
The two I've narrowed the choices down to the following.
40 Series Delta Flow (2 chamber) PN# 942540 13L x 9.5W x 4H
50 Series Delta Flow (3 chamber) PN# 922550 17L x 9.75W x 4H
I'd rather have the more mellow tone and low interior resonance of the 50 series three chamber, problem might be length. Anyone know if there's enough room to fit the 4" longer muffler without any major pipe modification, using the stock tips? Basically if someone knew what they were doing with the torch, could they make it work?
PontiacDan 03-03-2009, 08:23 PM Shouldn't be any problem for the 40 series--the pipe length of the axle backs we are making measure in at 22" in legnth after the bend, although I think it might be a bit of a strech to squeeze in the 50 series--send me a PM if you need any more info on the pipe size or fitment. I might be able to help you out without cutting into your stock axlebacks

f117rt 03-04-2009, 12:34 PM On YouTube there is a video that shows someone comparing the 3 chamber mufflers to the 2. I guess that he fit them in the stock locations.
gr8t gt 03-04-2009, 01:13 PM So, you want a pair of Dronemasters.

No not particularly. That's why I'm attempting to do discovery on the 50 series 3 chambers soliciting experience, knowledge, and know how to assess if they can be installed without issue.
techboy 03-05-2009, 07:12 PM i bought two flo pro's...which are flowmaster's 2 chamber. they lost there patent and had to rename certain products...but it sounds alot like the 40. and i HAD a butt load of drone the first few days...then idk what happened..it went away...now i got a clean deep pur. no drone...so it is the same thing as the 40. and the drone went away..thats just how mine were though.
joemac 03-06-2009, 06:52 PM Do you know which Flo Pro part number you went with?
DRCUSTOMPARTS 03-06-2009, 07:45 PM I have Borla turbo mufflers welded to the stock axleback pipes/flanges and the stock tips. They sound great when I'm on it and very little drone when cruising.
rcpepper 03-09-2009, 10:45 PM I have the 40 series delta mufflers under my truck. GMPP 330 hp 350 with 1 5/8 inch primary Hedman headers, H-pipe dual exhaust. Very mellow at highway speeds with a very nice note on throttle. Super 40's are much louder as the Delta 40 has 3 deflectors in the first chamber where Super 40's have 1 deflector in the first chamber. Had one Delta 50 on my 04 Silverado, and it wasn't any louder than my dad's 06 Silverado with stock exhaust. I would do the Delta 40's.
CRSGT 03-12-2009, 07:17 PM Ive had the Super 40 series flows on my 5.3L chevy and 5.7 hemi dodge and they both sounded really good, with very low interior noise. I would recommend them.
BigEvil2005 04-13-2009, 12:24 PM I like these Flo knock offs...cheap and durable

joemac 04-13-2009, 08:08 PM SilverFox, Did you make your own or get them through another source? I haven't come across any vendors that are offering Flowmaster axle backs at this point. Do you know which Flowmaster muffler is used in the axle back you speak of? Any info is appreciated.

I got them from a member of the other board :wink2: He put them together for me without tips. I'll be adding my own. These are flowmaster 2 chamber's.
