Hello, i am getting made fun of for liking the g8. especially since i just bought a sierra denali. anyway, the question that keeps coming up is how a 4k lb car with 361hp run 5.3 to 60 and 13.8 in the 1/4 with an auto. it seems all the mags are having the same numbers. is that all pontiacs numbers? any real life numbers yet? thanks guys.

And why is there a question about the 1/4 mile numbers? The times are running between 13.5 and 13.8, so they are not all the same. I don't believe anybody on here has had their car to a track yet. Cars are just now starting to be delivered.

the guys are running mid to low 13's down under with basically same car. here in the states of course we have the auto, and possibly m6 next year. numbers should be same here. i see autos getting 13.4-13.8 @ 104-105 range and m6 variants 13.1-13.5 @ 104-108. just speculation though. hope that helps.
oh and hop onto www.ls1.com.au/forums and search for ve ss quarter times. will give you a little insight on the cars in their own home country.

I think you will be surprised with the 6A and 6M numbers. The 6A numbers are much taller in the lower gears, giving a great shot off the line. Given the same driver and identical cars except for the tranny, I think the automatic will be the winner. Not as much fun to drive in the crooked roads, but straight line the auto, in certain cars, has been stronger for pushing 40 years. Anyone remember the mid-60 MOPAR's and what that Torque Flite did to the 4-speeds?:gears::gears:

Time is all traction and reaction. If it grabs good, low time.

Yeah, the GTO times for the LS2 '05-06 cars was 0-60 in 4.6 and 4.7 for A4 and M6 respectively. However, some good drivers with the M6 could equal the A4 times. My G8 will be a slushbox 'cause it's the wife's grocery hauler and vacation road car, although she drives a stick quite well. It would have been interesting to stuff an A6 into a GTO.
The six spd slushbox is a great tranny. Heard it even blips the throttle on downshifts. Is that true? Very cool!

i got the new "automobile" mag today. it has the pontiac ad for the g8. saying it is faster than the 550i bimmer. then the mag has an article with both cars. it has the g8 at 5.8 to 60mph and the bimmer at 5.5 to 60. what gives? supposed to be 5.3 to 60 and quicker than the bimmer and then it is slower.

A few of these so-called "automotive editors" didn't bother to RTFM and put the tranny into "sport" mode for 0-60 runs. Most everyone is getting 5.3 or 5.4 secs. in sport mode with traction control off.

There is also a difference betweened "claimed" and "as tested". Being an automotive writer myself I can tell you that there will always be different claims depending on the location, temp. and overall track conditions from test to test. Below is a shot of what the RE G8 book says that was distributed to all Pontiac dealers (note this was develpoed for internal use only):
