: Tuners available
Ausstar 03-11-2008, 11:41 AM Hey guys
So who is going to make the first tuners and are any available right now. I know the predator was the best for the Goats so im assuming it will be for the G8's too.
IS it worth waiting and getting dyno tune for 91 octane or will a portable tuner work just as good.??
Thanks fellas.

GigaHz 03-11-2008, 12:20 PM Nothing like a personal dyno tune.
vandy0419 03-11-2008, 12:57 PM For the G8, I think the best one will be HP Tuners. With HP Tuners you can disable the AFM, which might be best for future forced induction. HP Tuners lets you log and everything and make the tune specifically for your car.
A preset Predator is okay if you're looking for a tune that is going to be used by everyone but not every car works the same with the tune. They all need tweaking to max the performance.
HPT is on top of things a little more, for example the HHR SS was released and within a couple weeks they had access to the PCM for tuning and I think they are out of the Beta stage. With the demand for the G8, I'm sure they'll be right on top of it.
I loved nothing more than data logging with HPT and being able to make the tweaks to the charts myself in free time without spending 20 minutes tuning the PCM while paying the big price tag of dyno time with the car just sitting there.
Mr. Sandog 03-11-2008, 12:59 PM No need to disable AFM with a blower, IMO. No reason they can't live side-by-side peacefully.

Depends at what RPM the AFM is deactivated because if you went for a TVS blower from EATON, I would imagine that could be quite a bit of air at low rpm...I'd worry what would happen if too much air was coming in and not all cylinders were activated.

All of which can be addressed with programming.

Which is why with HPT, doing the programming could require turning off the AFM. But with HPT you could have one tune set up when you plan on driving hard at the track so you can have the AFM off then and one economical tune for when there will just be a bunch of daily driving with the AFM on.
It only takes 30 seconds to update to a different tune.
All-in-all, this thread is about tuning and I put my vote in for HPT. If you plan on tuning a lot, would like to view all parameters that the PCM has available and monitor knock and add timing, this is the best IMO.
GTPprix 03-11-2008, 03:17 PM We have ECM's available (have for about 5 months now), waiting for a production car just to make 100% sure nothign changed but 30+ RWHP on 93 octane on the pre production G8's we tested.

The AFM does not come into play. AFM will turn off before the engine sees any boost. AFM is only active at very low engine loads. Anything that will cause the engine to see boost will cause the AFM to turn off. There is a turbo GP GXP and AFM was left active with no problems.

whats the Engine Control Mod change exactly?
What would i be loosing/gaining?
Guess i would gain 30HP but would need 93 octane. Whats fuel consumption like?
chill 03-11-2008, 07:18 PM i would hope a portable tuner/labtop would work the best if not equal. i liked having mine in my cobra with me. and its nice if you need to take it back to stock settings for a possible dealership visit =)

Dont forget a 91 octane tune for us cali guys:madsign3:
GTPprix 03-11-2008, 08:06 PM 91 is done on paper, needs to be tested. Thats no big deal :) As soon as someone here gets a production car we can flash and make sure its kosher we'll finish the 91. That said anyone in MI or surrounding areas that wants a free Dyno tune let me know :) We can also do FULL TCM's in these vehicles, not just limited parts like currently available software permits.

ill be your test car in So Cal!!!!!
I just got home with mine:)
so maybe like 25+ RWHP with 91....?
Ausstar 03-12-2008, 02:11 AM Thanks guys. I really jusy want something simple i can use to set it to maximum power but still get the great mileage it seems to get as is... well maybe sacrifice a little.
GTPRIX: What is your system and what are the costs?? Are you a sponser??
Cheers fellas.
jerminator 03-12-2008, 07:56 AM Ditto, I'd also like to know what it does to mileage and what is the cost.
Sounds like a great mod to me.
GTPprix 03-12-2008, 08:14 AM Mileage in early testing was 2-3MPG with 93 octane just need to verify that to make 100% sure cost is $349.

ok .. and you'll be able to switch back if youo need to get teh car to the dealer.??
very interested. Let me know as soon as you get the ball rolling.
Cheers

dodson914 03-28-2008, 02:27 PM I will be using EFILive. I just need to figure out how to use the stupid thing. LOL If anyone knows how to do it I would be happy to send you my stock tune via email for some tweaking
Bill@hptuners 04-05-2008, 09:27 PM We've offered tuning for them for about a month now pretty much since they first started arriving at dealers and with over 400 editable so either way you go there really isn't a wrong way ;)

jkgmh 04-06-2008, 06:43 AM My VE has been tuned over here with HP Tuners. With 3" exhaust, headers, cold air intake and comp cam with tune made 392rwhp.
I run mine on 98 octane fuel over here.....
Jagular 04-06-2008, 10:28 AM I think it depends on what you want to do to your car. If you want to do mild modding, headers, for example, and a good tune, a handheld will be fine. Cam, heads, dyno tuning, etc., a software package is the way to go...
