: Is 350?

Ok so I got into an argument with a friend yesterday who said a IS 350 ran low 13s stock. The car rags all say around 14 stock(but they are auto rags) and the specs are a 3.5L V6, 306 HP and 277ft-lb tq at 4800. It weighs in at 3571 and they usually dyno around 260 stock.

I personally think we would take them but not by much. Has any of you run into these cars? I said they should run a mid 13.6 at best but looked on drag times and low and behold there are owners claiming 13.2s with a stock engine.

I don't think they are that fast...simple solution...go race him. Now the IS-F's are bad@$$

Well, I saw an IS-F at Fontana this Saturday...and it rattled off a 13.1@108.

So, I'm guessing that if they ran an IS350 at Fontana, low 14's is probably more accurate.

those cars arent as fast as they claim...they are quick but not a low 13 car. i think high 13 to low 14's would be more accurete. nice lookin car though...my friends dad owns one and he ran it against my car. it held up pretty good...didnt start to really pull untill top end...they die on top end..but they deffently arent low 13 cars... but like i said..its a nice car and i love riding with him in his. smooth and classy.

I don't know anybody personally that owns one, It's just my friend and I saw one on the road and he told me they ran low 13s and I said BS. I couldn't race him because I was in a 07 5.4L F-150 which has problems with Prius'.

Yeah I have seen some pretty bad times from them online. But I think it is the driver just like with the SRT8 Challengers.

They are nice cars, in fact the only current Toyota product that I give a damn about. From their specs I would figure that their top end is not that great. Or maybe ours is just good.

Well, unless that IS-F driver was totally inept and his IS-F was capable of mid 12's, I doubt that a good driver would be able to get an IS350 into the low 13's at Fontana. Maybe I'm being too pessimistic, but I really have my doubts about that claim.

Plus, I'm not a big fan of the IS anyway. I drove one at an Audi Driving Experience event, where they had an IS, 3-Series, and C-Class available for back to back runs against the new A4. The IS was by far the worst car in the group as far as handling. And from a subjective point of view, I hated the interior the most out of that group of cars. (Though the C-Class wasn't too far behind.)

The IS350 is the other car in my driveway. I would say it could be a drivers race in the 1/4 - they are very quick, hook up nicely and are great cars. I agree that I think the V6 would start getting winded on the top end and we'd pull away, but don't underestimate them - we've got them by 50+ hp, and they have us by ~300 lbs. I'll have to get the wife to run me sometime.

I ran with an IS350 with 4 200lb+ passengers, dead even. He got the jump on me, but couldn't pull.

The IS350 was my previous car before the G8. I hate to break it to you guys, but it was fast as hell. The car was lighter than the G8, not sure by how much, and the 300hp all got down in the rear tires, hookup was flawless and then it just screamed. I never ran a 1/4 mile, but plenty of 0-100 runs and I would think it would be a good race. Up to the driver I would think. As far as the IS-F. Good luck running stock against one of them.

Wow the one of the first car in the world (that I have heard of) to lose no HP through the drivetrain. Impressive. Lexus FTW :drink:

Ok, so I should have said, it seemed like all 300 hp got the rear tires. You got me. You want a cookie?

What flavor? :)

I favor Oatmeal raisin, but am open to most any kind. :)

Gotta admire a car that can get all 300HP down to the pavement through its P225/40YR18 tires.:wink2:

BTW- IS350 curb weight is a little over 3500lbs for anyone wondering.

Considering it invoices for $36,000...without the $2800 sport package...and gets not much better gas mileage in the city and the same on the highway, I'll take the G8 GT.:)

500 pounds lighter makes a big difference in the 1/4 mile. One would think.
Just sayin.

Cookies on me.

The IS350, as well as the new G37, are all good performers. There's talk about Acura putting in a 330+hp V6 into their awd sedan, the middle sized one.

looks to be a close match up in the 1/4 mile according to some of those times.

The IS is staggered - has 255s in the rear

I'm not sure I would call the IS350 fast. It is more like, quick. It is quick 0-60, but after 90ish, it really starts to lose steam. The higher the speed, the harder the G8 will pull on it.

I ran a couple before I modded my 04 GTO. From a dig, it can be a testy little car. But from a 50+ roll, they wouldn't stand a chance.

So yeah, in the 1/4, I guess they could be trouble if you get a bad launch. But let's be honest, it's not as fast as the G8 with equal drivers...

My bad. Is that with the sport package or do all of them have 255's?

maybe this is why i held the lead so well against the is350 i ran, we started at about 65.

I raced one when i was stock and just absolutly murdered it. it was like a honda civic racing a 10 sec drag car.

I had an IS350. Track drag raced a TBSS with a converter. dead even. d.a 6700' 14.3-.5@ 98mph. Vette's run 13.3-5's at that altitude. Some IS owner's put 350 badges on 250's like Z badges on 6 cylinder Camaro's. I figure stock the 350 and a GT are within 1/10 of each other either way in the 1/4. But the only mods you can do to the IS's is an axle-back and a cai. Toyota has the tuning locked down tight. About the most added h.p. you can get is 15rwhp. I liked mine but the back seat was as small as my '01Z-28, you just had a door to get in. And I missed the sound and torque of a V8, hence the G8 GT.

I'm with you on this statement. The IS350 and IS-F are nice(and expensive), but when is there ever going to be another Supra?
Lexus does have a new supercar which looks fun to drive, but it is also really expensive, check it out-

My sister in laws IS 350 does not seem fast to me but I only drove it one time.Actually I thought it felt loose and slow. Then again my G8 GT did not seem fast before a tune either.
With you on the Supra. With as much "Buzz" as surrounds the Supra it would be like bringing the Camaro back if they would build another one.

Toyota has been working on a hybrid supra for a few years now. Gonna have over 400hp and with an electric engine, that instant torque will be crazy. Would not wanna mess with that thing

From 25 to 95MPH I took an IS 350 by about four cars this morning (closed private road of course). I have a superchips tune and rotofab. Keep in mind that Road & Track took a stock IS 350 down the quarter in 13.5, so don't underestimate them. As mentioned, they seem fairly quick down low but seem to lose a bit up top.
