Nice vid.

That brought me back to my college years :)

I for one will say I don't like it or even get it. I would have thought they would be projecting an image to those that had 2 door noisy muscle cars when they were younger but have now matured and want/need something with the added convenience of 2 extra doors(family maybe) but still has traces of a performance car. That commercial looks like it used left over footage from the "Cars" movie. It has since been explained to me that I am too old to understand the commercial.. That and I am an aussie..............LOL

Woah, hello 80's! Coca Cola slurpees and blowing quarters at the local 7-11, that's what came to my mind. Man times were so much easier back then!

I reckon Holden did it better with the original V2 Monaro ad in 2002.

Sorry Izzy, Spyhunter is better.

Spy Hunter FTW! I can't tell you how many quarters I spent on that game! My favorite was the sit down version. Much easier to manipulate the pedals!

For you Aussies who don't know about Spy Hunter, here is a link to an online version of the game that is identical to the arcade version:

Just click on Spy Hunter and have fun!

I grew up with Spy Hunter as well (and those 80's graphics), so this commerciall TOTALLY resonates with me! I hope they run it everywhere!
On the other hand, some people will definitely criticize it. They'll say that if Pontiac wants to position the G8 as a serious contender in today's automobile market, associating it with a kid's video game is not the way to do it. They'll claim it shows that the G8 is just like all the old Pontiacs from the 1990s and does not represent something special...

I thought the commercial was fun. And since the car will be "or is" fun with rear wheel drive and 361hp, I think the message is appropriate.

This is why they did it, so the ad spreads virally as well. Smart move Pontiac, just the demographic of people who played the original game in the 80s who would want to buy this car now.

I am sure that I am just stating the obvious here but by that commercial one thing is for sure, GM is targeting 40 year old, male, Gen-Xers.

Very clever ad. That should get a nice reaction from the target demographic.

Thanks for posting the vid. I look forward to seeing it on the ol' boob-tube.

Yes, the kids who 25 years ago sat in front of a computer all day playing games are now the people who have the ability to afford a 'fun' yet responsible car and afford to fuel it.

There are a few commercials from Corvette and Porsche that come to mind about the 'kids' point of view.

It's not about marketing to kids, its about marketing to the proper demographic - but tapping into their childhood dreams.

How old are you? The beginning of the commerical is from a video game from the 1980's. I played it a few times back in the day but don't recall the name.

How about an ad like this:

Guy leaving work says goodnight to this boss in the parking lot as boss getting into his car.

Driving home he's at a stoplight and a BMW 5 Series pulls up and starts revving his engine.

Light turns green and the G8 smokes the 535i.

G8 owner gets a flashback to the parking lot and realizes he just left his boss in a cloud of smoke.

"Hmm, it might be a long day at work tomorrow!"

Forgot to add he says that with a huge grin across his face!

It's ok, but I too am too old to know the game. My son probably does, though.
-and old Pontiacs from the '90's, geeze I remember the 60's (and the early 70's)better. :)

Simply bada$$!

My son has the game on his Nintendo DS and we went and looked at the G8 yesterday. I love it when life comes full circle.

EDIT: My son has now demanded to see the commercial 10 times in a row while playing the game.

Good stuff.

Here is my idea for an ad...

Guy with his wife in a G8... They pull up to a light with Some beat up ricer honda..

The ricers rev their engine... The people in the G8 pay no attention and are just BSing..

They leave the light, and smoke the ricers without even realizing they are being raced.

I love it!

I think the SpyHunter commercial is badass, but Jim didn't get it. Apparently he never dropped $100's of dollars in quarters into that beast like I did.

Maybe if they used Pong or PacMan he'd be more hip to it.

That commercial really reached alot of guys in the 24-30 yr old age group (probally outside of that). I freaking love it and still have my old spy hunter game. I asked a few other guys at the shop if they ever heard of spy hunter and they haven't.. That commercial basicaly went over their head.
