Has anyone put GXP mufflers on a GT? Wondering if they would add some sound to the stock system. Also, on a header system, too.

I have the same question. Why does the GXP sound so good and the sound of the GT is so crappy??

Is it inherrent in the 6.2 engine design? AFM? Exhaust design? Or mufflers?

If you could take an entire GXP exhaust system and throw it on a GT would it make it sound like a GXP?

I bet it has to do with the smaller camshaft package in the L76 versus the LS3 in the GXP. That .2 bore can't possible be that much more difference in the sound. CVheck out Livernois' G8GT camshaft videos and you will see what I mean!

The mufflers are definitely different and I think you would get the same sound on a GT as as GXP by swapping the exhaust. We've found that the factory GT catback is very restrictive (at least on a power adder car). The only reason I think GM would spend the money for a totally different system would be because they found the same.

How would the GXP mufflers sound behind a header system like ARH or Kooks? Deeper?? Throatier?? More rumble??

Has anyone priced out a GXP exhaust from the cat back? Is it affordable? Would there be any fitment issues at the connection to the GT's cat?

Anyone have access to part numbers?

That would be cool to know. The G8 GXP stock mufflers / exhaust sound pretty good.

So I'm dying to know how the GT's exhaust would sound with LT's, high flow cats, with the G8 GXP's mufflers.

Mike,

You should find the time to come checkout some of the cars in the shop right now... Including our GXP... I Think you would find a wide array of exhaust combos w/ camshafts to listen to in person :D

Thanks Andy, I appreciate the invite. Paul has told me that your place is sweet! I will if I can.

Question: What do you guys have planned for the Black GXP? Very curious how the LS3 is going to take to the modding. (I know it will be good).....

hmm, Planned? who needs plans... Initially the thought was to do an NA 427 build that was stealthy as all hell, but I think we might do a 413+ w/ a 2300 Maggie on top :D but whatever it is, it will fit right in with our traditional "speak softly and carry a big stick" ideology... ;)

The GXP sounds better because it has only one small 2-in / 2-out resonator, and the mufflers are also obviously different internally. In the GT, the muffler has a single outlet that splits to dual tips. On the GXP, the muffler is dual out right from the case.

The GXP also appears to have the two additional secondary cats that the 2009.5 GT's have.

Have you guys heard the GXP live?

It's really not that big of a deal. Buying GXP mufflers imo would be a waste of money and disappointing. If they are free, it would be a nice 'enhancement'.
But definitely nothing that will make you feel it was worth spending a couple hundred on.

Stock GT mufflers run about $680/ea!! Assuming GXP muffler cost the same (big assumption) then we're talking big bucks to make the switch.

Yeah the GXP doesn't sound that great. Have you heard any of the 2010 Camaro vids? Now that's a stock exhaust. Even the Mustang sounds great compared to these cars.

Just take out the resonators and mid-muffler and throw in an x-pipe. At least you'll get a little more and that should only run you 150 or so.

This was recommended to me but if just the GT mufflers cost $680 each then the aftermarket ones are as steal I guess.

Agree. I have the GXP axlebacks only, but I think they really wake up the car! Nice sounding videos.

Wow...I thought they sounded a fair bit different than my GT's. I'm interested if someone has some for sale.

I guess this is a case of "the grass is always greener..."

The stock GXP muffs sound alright, but they aren't anything to write home about. Definately doesn't sound "aftermarket." My son's GTO w/flowmasters sounds a ton meaner than my stock GXP.

I need to hear some clips of a stock GT, sounds like. That system and/or mufflers must be terrible!

Would taking out the resonators and mid-muffler and throwing in an x-pipe on a stock GT exhaust make any differences in the way it sounds or would the GT muffler nullify that upgrade improvement?

Sorry to ask the following; what exactly are resonators, mid-mufflers, and x-pipes ? :)

Doing the above mentioned would change the volume and sound of the stock exhaust. Question is how much sound and what type of sound you're after.

Resonators and mid mufflers essentially muffle and tune the exhaust note to what someone things it should sound like. X and H pipes are used to bridge dual exhaust tubes. Google might be more exhaustive.

Have I read right...G8s have 3 resonators? That's a euroean touch the Aussies and GM could have left out...

So maybe just changing out the cat-back system would be the way to go? Borla or Corsa? I can't tell the difference.

Even on a GT it isn't that loud with the mufflers (axle backs off). I was pretty surprised how quiet it is with no mufflers--too loud to drive daily, but no where near what you'd expect from no mufflers.

GXP exhaust sounds alot like the Washer mod...in those vids

Personal pref. Between those two, I would go Borla. Depends on what you're doing/after. But on my own, probably go something else.

LTs might help...just a lil bit. :)

Wonder what straight pipes sound like on GXPs. I'll search it...

Here's another quick clip of a GT with GXP axle-back, x-pipe, and resonator delete. I am otherwise stock... Sounds a lot louder than a stock GXP and still has no drone...

everyone i talk to says it sounds "good" not obnoxious, not too loud, like Goldilocks...just right. I have a 97 Trans Am with long tubes, no cats, and hooker mufflers, and for my daily driver, I have no issues with the way it sounds.
