What will the dealer say if sees an aftermarket CAI installed If I bring it in for warrantee work?

Is he going to give me a hard time?

No, it shouldn't.

I've taken mine in and nothing was said.

Not to make a blanket statement but typically no, we install them here on customers vehicles all the time.

Depends on your dealer service manager and what breaks.

If you have a CAI filter that uses oil and your MAF fails due to oil contamination, you have a good chance of paying for that repair yourself. If your engine throws a rod and all you have is a CAI, not likely.

When I was inquiring about adding a catback, my dealer mentioned the catback was cool but they don't like to see intakes. Guess it depends on the dealer. They're so simple to swap that I'd just throw the stocker back on if I had to take it in.

They may not warrant a MAF sensor or TB if you had an aftermarket intake. However, I had my TB replaced on my Cobalt (when I had it) and I had an aftermarket CAI, so I don't think it should be an issue. If the part that needs replacing is clearly defective for reasons OTHER than being caused by non-OEM mods, then the dealer should do the right thing and replace under warranty.

Just keep the stock parts when you need service. The 1/2 hour of work will save you some $$$.

The Volant intake uses a dry filter and it has a sealed box. It looks like the stock airbox, so I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem with warranty work.

There's a Bulletin that addresses over-oiling. http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10978

Which filters/intakes recommend oiling? So far, it appears all the majors in here are dry filtered. ????

Any of the systems that use a K&N filter element:

NEP side mount CAI
NEP OTR CAI
Most of the Roto-Fabs
JHP OTR (looks like it has a red K&N filter element from the pictures)
Orssom OTR (looks to have the same red element)
The AFE comes in both oiled and dry according to the Maryland Speed website

So the V appears to be dry? Sweet!

I didn't say that. I didn't include it in my list because I don't know one way or the other and I couldn't readily find information on what type air filter it used.

This was just a list of those intakes that I'm reasonably sure use K&N or other oiled filter elements. Maybe one of those that already have one can tell us one way or the other.

So, the nep otr is oiled?

So, the nep otr is oiled?

Yes, it's a K&N 33-2677 that was originally a drop-in replacement on mid-90's Mercedes S600's with the 6.0L V-12. http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=33-2677

I've already cleaned a very minor amount of oil residue off my MAF screen once using some Tri-chloro-ethane based contact cleaner. It didn't seem too bad, but I'll be very careful re-oiling it when I clean it once I get back to NY.

Just got it an hour ago...literally.
It does appear it needs to be cleaned and oiled every 5000 miles.

Sidenote: Very nice unit! Can't wait to install and tune!!!!

I don't see how they can void your warranty if you leave it on, but they won't if you put the stock airbox on, knowing that you will put the other one back on when you get home. Eric is right, that IS BS!

Did no one read the link that chiefpontiac posted on page 1? Pretty much answers all the questions in this thread crystal clearly.
