: Time for a rant
LS1=SEG 02-08-2007, 11:36 PM :The_Villagers: Well, I'm tired of all this stuff we get promised at car shows. Check out this video (http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/PopUpVideoPlayer/videoID=20111935) from Edmunds(Yes, there is a :15 commercial, just deal with it). Listen to the what the guy says at 1:05. We don't get the wheels, brakes, or calipers. I'm starting to wonder if this car is going to look like the G6 when it's done. This chit really pisses me off. We get our hopes up, and there's no way any of this stuff is getting to production. What's the point of putting this stuff on a show car if it's not going to be in production? :soapbox:
Sorry guys. Had to do it.
monaro_gto 02-08-2007, 11:40 PM I know what your saying. No nav system, no 2 tone interior, different wheels, ride height etc etc.
veritasatis 02-08-2007, 11:42 PM Look for the pictures of the red G8 that have been posted. The red one is probably really close to a production version and it still looks :yumyum: . I would bet that the the other goodies that are not on the G8 or G8 GT will be on the GXP. They have to save some extras for the GXP.
LS1=SEG 02-08-2007, 11:45 PM Have they actually said GXP, or is that an assumption? I'm not sure, I may have missed it.

I believe the nav unit is an option.

Granted, quite a bit of the cosmetic things on the show car will not be making it to production, but it is a show car. The G8 at Chicago is just like the show cars Honda produces- pretty much exactly what you are going to see on the dealership floor minus the brakes, suspension, wheels, and paint. Functionally the interior will be identical to the show car minus the tan leather dash.
If you dont like it you can always change these things with the aftermarket, because lets crunch the numbers:
HSV wheels: ~$4k
Lowered Ride Height: ~$1k
Big brakes up front: ~$2k
Paint: Dont even know, it could cost a fortune so I wont even include it
Interior leather dash: ~$5k (at least)
So now your base G8 with a price of $30k (estimated) has ballooned to the $40k mark- only to make it look like the show car. Is it worth it? You might think so, but I will bet you a lot of other people dont. So buy your G8 and save up for these pieces to make your G8 show car.
As for looking like a G6- thats just plain funny. :D
dbluegoat 02-09-2007, 09:10 AM its still going to be a very nice ride

Well considering every other Pontiac in their line-up is getting a GXP variant, excluding the vibe which will probably be dead soon, why wouldn't they do a GXP version of their flagship RWD performance V-8 to compete with the SRT cars? Also I have a feeling that you will see alot of the items on the GXP that are on the show car such as larger rims, different brakes and a lowered ride height.
I just want to see REAL pricing.
The Angry Goat 02-09-2007, 03:41 PM I just hope they don't mess too much with the original concept car body kit:

That's spectacular. Can we get another view from the rear angle?

Every Pontiac car needs a GXP version, not all are gonna get it. In fact there won't be too many Pontiac models out there.
Torrent: Gets GXP model--will be sent to GMC within a couple of years.
Solstice: Has a GXP model. More than just a turbo kit, a low dollar example of GM technology.
Vibe: Redesign--Might get a GXP when the new body arrives.
G5: Not gonna get GXP. Redesigned in a few years (maybe).
G6: Has GXP. IMO, not as good as it could have been.
Grand Prix: Has GXP. Best car to wear the logo.
G8: Insiders say we will get a GXP model. Don't know when, don't know how much.
GTO ('09 or '10): Should not have a GXP model, IMO. Should be available with 1 engine & choice of 6M or 6A transmission.
PMD G8 02-11-2007, 10:06 PM /\ You forgot about the Solistice. ;)

Ok. Fixed it.
rlsedition 02-13-2007, 11:27 AM If you want to rant about show cars having more neat "stuff" than the final production cars, you'll be talking to virtually every major auto manufacturer. Apparently you didn't notice the first Mustang show cars about three years ago that had chopped tops, huge wheels and detailed engine compartments that never showed up for production? Even Honda put big wheels on the Pilot show car when it came out.
This is just the way it is with show cars versus production, no matter who makes the car.

V8 with 362 HP in the GT and 400+ in the GXP
RWD
6MT
Hand parking brake (which the 2008 CTS still won't have)
all for about 40K OTD!
Enough said...

Is the interior leather really $5,000? That seems a little extreme. I mean, it looks nice but it doesn't enhance the car's performance in any way.

I think the show car leather was hand stitched. You are going to pay out the ass for that.

Yea, hand-made options can be pricey.

Just because it doesnt enchance performance doesnt mean it cant be expensive- check out the options list on a Benz. :D
The $5k was an estimate, I have no idea what it might cost, but I assume that the leather in the show car is of a higher quality and like it was said, it was probably hand stitched, which means $$$.

There are many who would not agree.

I agree that $40k would be a blockbuster of a price to pay compared to the bimmers and lexi of the world. But the last large GXP, the Bonnnie, topped out at $35 (and if your local taxes are $5k I feel for you.)
