I've just had the pleasure of finding a G8 on my local lot.
Let me preface my comments by saying that my expectations were pretty high prior to seeing the car in person. Also, my daily driver is a Pontiac Solstice GXP—nicely styled fun car.
I was out examining Outlooks and Vues on the conjoined Saturn lot, when I was very surprised to see a Black G8 (V6) parked in front of the Pontiac dealership.
The front end is very impressive—very aggressive and nicely done. The recessed grills look wonderful...all Pontiac grills should be recessed. The hood scoops looked great and really added that something special to the front end. The car is smaller in person than I had imagined—it's a good thing—and was the perfect size for a large sports sedan.
The car loses some design excitement as you work your way from the midsection to the rear. Maybe it's the split personality of the car revealing itself in the design—the front is racer while the rear is all family sedan. Its well executed and looked pleasing, however it doesn't imply powerful or aggressive. Think storage. (I believe the Acura TL has the better rear styling of the two vehicles.)
The interior appeared to be top notch and looked like a very comfortable place to be, but I have no "touch" time in the car to make that assessment with authority.
It is the perfect car for the Dad and Mom that cannot agree on what to buy...this car looks to be able to meet both personalities and needs dead-square in the middle.
Overall it's going to be a great hit for Pontiac if they can market it correctly. No more CAR! Back to EXCITEMENT!
I look forward to my first test drive of the G8 GT with enthusiasm!
