: Mufflers are interchangeable
menace 03-17-2008, 11:00 PM More Info for the V6 Owners.
The VE V6 and V8 have the exact same exhaust system bar the single vs twin tip rear mufflers. So what i'm thinking is that the G8's will be no differen't.
So if your after a slight sound improvement and the twin tip look grab yourself some GT rear mufflers.
Thanks,
Dennis
J Wikoff 03-18-2008, 09:55 AM If the GT is as quiet as everyone says, I wouldn't expect the GT mufflers to help sound much.
menace 03-24-2008, 06:48 PM Yeah true, but i guess it would be a cheap option for V6 owners to get the GT look with minimal fuss.
jkgmh 03-25-2008, 07:11 AM Just head down to your local exhaust shop that is changing the V8 systems over to aftermarket ones and get a V8 one for your SV6.
There are hundreds around over here getting thrown out, so the V6 guys are getting the rear section and changing them over...
Here is an aftermarket 2.5" catback exhaust on a V6 here in Oz -

JTSnooks 03-25-2008, 09:39 AM Why would you want a V6 to be louder? :barf:

Man that's a pretty impressive sound. Most V6 cars I've heard with an aftermarket exhaust sounds like straight up rice but that setup right there gives the car a really nice tone. I'm impressed.
4gasem 03-25-2008, 11:53 AM I think that sounds great!
DKrazyKracker32 03-27-2008, 04:41 PM Sounded pretty damn good for a 6er IMO.
bighiter 07-08-2008, 10:24 PM which mufflers were used on that system?

Ahhh, but if you consider what you'll spend on them and subtract that from the really small price difference of the G8GT from the G8.....Makes the G8GT the better buy ;)

Yes true, but most GT owners will give them away...
tntempest 08-25-2008, 03:04 PM Anybody in the Chattanooga TN area that would like to switch v6 tailpipes from my V8 GT I may be interested, also might be interested in your V6 taillights. I can do all the work at my garage.
Never Enough 10-08-2008, 09:44 PM Hey Guys
Just a quick caution to V6 G8 (VE) owners, there are some great aftermarket CAT back exhausts which sound great from the outside but all seem to drone that bad inside you have to change gears or your ears will bleed.
I'm based in Oz and I have never found a CAT back on a Alloytec V6 that didn't drone. You can put the V8 mufflers on with no issue what so ever !!
Do what you will with the info !
P.S if someone knows of a CAT back to suit V6 that does not drone at all please LMK
blkout 11-12-2008, 03:00 PM Thats some good info I am looking into either buying 2 axelbacks from someone on here from a GT or just stock Gt mufflers. Dont really want the whole cat back I have a 10 month old daughter and dont want to get serious drone. I keep hearing that the GT mufflers piping are 2.5 inches diameter and our V6's are 2.25. But you state The Gt mufflers will bolt up fine? Do you have to change the flanges or just weld right from 2.5 pipe to 2.25 pipe? i want it to be complete bolt up axel back no welding is this possibble?

Pretty sure almost 100% sure that the GT doesn't have 2.5" anything under it. I put on my M/F system which is 2.5" the axle backs are tiny. Maybe 2 inch. I have a set with 130 miles on them.
jaxredg8 11-12-2008, 06:05 PM the only 2.5" axle backs I could find were kooks. The flowmaster and magna-flows that stolen fox used to make were 2-1/4". So I now have the latest version of kooks axle backs. So I also now have a set of flowmaster axle backs in the garage. I have 3 kids but they are older so the louder the better. If it doesnt make it louder AND faster, I dont want it right now!!
quitplayn 11-12-2008, 06:16 PM Those sound pretty clean, I like.
