I'm trying to compare the G8 V6 to my current cars. I drive 15 miles 1 way to work, half is highway at 60mph, other half through town. I would guess the G8 V6 would be pretty close. I wish I could rent one for a couple of days.

04 GTO M6: 22.5 mpg
97 GP GT: 23.5 mpg

well, when flooring the **** out of the v6 you get 12mpg

Normal driving you get average at 20mpg

The highest ive seen it is 23mpg and
loswest has been 17mpg

(i still havent broken in the engine tho)

Well, if the car is rated 25 MPG highway I hope you'd see more than a best of 23 MPG. This is not encouraging.

My GP can get as high as 30 MPG on all highway driving and I average 24-26 MPG. And it's got a bigger engine than the G8. Then again, it has 50 less HP....

i normally average about 19 to 22mpg. i drive 20 miles to work and 20 miles home pretty much all of it is freeway but i do have to clime up and down a mountain each way. i reset my milage every fill up so i can see how i do each tank of gas. usually i fill up at like a quarter tank but i have gone down to see when it tells me to fill up. usually between 275miles and 350miles. i have taken a road trip 90% full speed freeway (75- 80mph) with minor traffic coming home and got 26mpg. it read 23.something when i got there and 26. something when i got home. about a hundred miles round trip.

i do kindof accelerate hard from stop lights so i could probably get a litlle better on normal driving but when a ricer pulls up next to ya its all or nothing. so far no losses to my G8. i beat a gti, and a couple civics oh and a infinity g45 with a stupid 50somthing year old guy who couldnt drive worth beans.. so i still think the V6 is pretty good for a heavy V6 car.:driving:

Best i got so far was 36.6 MPG - reset computer at 56mph, cruise on, flat stretch of highway, regular gas, tires at 39 psi front 41 psi rear, outside temp 78, odo at 1850.

I haven't been able to duplicate it but can easily get 32.2. on highway, averaged 29 mpg on a long 196 mile trip with 3 people plus overnight luggage. Combined I'm getting 22.2mpg.

I took my G8 V6 on a 1100 mile trip last week and averaged about 27 mpg. Average speed was usually around 70 with a lot of mountain driving through W. Va. and Ky. I've been getting 15-17 in the city on a regular basis. I'm very happy with the V6 and love the ride it gives. With gas prices uncertain for some time I think I made the best decision for myself.:driving:

If U haven't already done so, set your tires to 39-40lbs. It is safe to be about 4lbs below max tire pressure as stated on tire side wall, plus your tire life will be much happier. Just remember to rotate them at 5-8k and keep them balanced, and they will make U very happy! :)

Enjoy!

Thanks EC will do! I do have another question though. Have you had any problem with wind noise from your sunroof? I took mine in for adjustment and they said they did all they could and it is still a nuisance with the shade open and the roof closed. I was thinking of getting a spoiler for the sunroof but didn't want to take anything away from the looks of the car.

Thanks again,:(

The sun roof equipped G8 is a little noisier than the non-sun roof G8, but not by much, as it is still a very quite vehicle. With the sun roof shade open and the glass closed, U can hear a moderate but not excessive increase in noise at speeds over 65mph. You may want to check for yourself, the sealing material around the edge of the glass to make sure it is not cracked or has any kinks (as per pic) and that is even all the way around the glass.
Hopefully the technicians didn’t disturb it by mistake or overlooked it somewhere.
This unfortunately maybe one of the draw backs of enjoying the natural sunshine, that being replacing the material every couple of years or so.

Also on a separate related wind noise note, check the rubber seal around the bottom of the passenger rear door especially towards the front as I noticed the retaining rubber seal grommets dislodge and come out real easy. I was cleaning that area with a rag after washing and the grommet that holds the rubber seal came loose.

Just a thought!

Cheers!

Jen (sugarspc) and I just got our V6 G8 Saturday and from watching the guage and the averaged MPG, it seems that I am getting a consistent 25mpg in the city and up to 30mpg on the highway. Now.. when she drives, it is more like what I am seeing here: 15mpg to 18mpg in the city.

I have peaked out at 32mpg but that only lasted about 5 minutes or so.

In 5th gear (manual mode) going downhill at about 45mph, I managed 48.5mpg. haha. Then I went uphill. haha.

So far we have driven about 150 miles and used up about a quarter tank. We will see though how well these numbers hold up after our first fill up.

I've had the G8 V6 for three weeks and have put about 1,200 miles on it. About 80% has been highway miles between 65 and 75mph with A/C on, the other 20% has been city driving in stop-and-go traffic. Overall MPG at this point is 24.2. Can't complain about that!

I'm thinking of buying a 2009 G8 in the spring. The mileage could be better and I wish they offered the six speed auto with the v6 engine. Does anyone know if that is in the works? How much would it improve highway mileage? My fear is that they will offer such a combo shortly after I buy the existing model. It would also be nice if they filled in that blank slot at the top of the center stack. Otherwise, I love the car and will probably buy one anyway.

I believe 2010 will have the 6 speed auto plus 300hp V6. No one know what that will do to the mpg. I test drove the v8 and v6 through the same mixed loop with the a/c on and got 17 on the v8 and 23 on the v6.

i know, thats what pisses me off, the US sponsors overlook the potential in the v6. all they see is v8 v8 v8 and the way gas prices are going and the economy is going, sponsors will end up making more profit off of v6ers when they realize people start to abandon v8s. They are sitting on a bench of gold

I have had my '08 G8 about two months. I average 20-22 mpg. on my daily commute of city and interstate. On a longer trips, I average 25-26 mpg. The car runs great, and will push you back into the seat when floored. I am adding a K&N filter, and probably an axle back exhaust system.

PONY MAN
07-20-2010, 08:56 PM
Well that all depends. I've been as high as low 30's on the highway and about 25 in the city. Now, due to my spirited driving, average is around 25MPH combined. I added an intake and some axlebacks to free up some HP. The car runs better without breathing through the stock contraption airbox. Now whether or not gas mileage improved, can't say. But, I will say whooppeeee. LOL

Just got back from National Meet. At one point going up DIC was showing 29MPG @70MPH w/ AC on. Be aware that the DIC appears to be off 2 MPG on the LOW SIDE. I tested the pld way. Filled car to top of the gas filler tube, drove about 200 miles, refilled and divided the number of miles by the number of gallons. (Believe or not there will be some folks going, DDUUHH) yes you can use a calculator. By the simple math it showed 2 MORE MPG than the DIC.

I drive 64 miles round trip to work and back every day. It's 80-0-80 again down and back every day. The best I can manage is 21mpg on the DIC with a ~40mph avg speed.

But then, I'm not known for suffering left lane losers.

I'm with Panzer on the highway mileage I consistently get 29-30 MPG using the non-sport mode and the cruise control at 70 MPH. At 80 about 25 MPG. Most of my city driving is around the small town (about 20,000 residents) where I live. No gridlock and I usually get 17-19MPG at 30MPH average. Just as a side note my car gets best mileage with mid-grade gas. It also improved when I installed the Roto Fab CAI kit.

It was down a bit of a hill, but that was after 2 hours of driving, and it still said I had 1,020 km left in the tank. Can't be bothered doing the maths right now, sorry.
The fuel was 98 octane, but otherwise, I just drove as carefully as possible to see how low it would go. Usually on a highway it's about 25% higher fuel consumption.
No roos in my engine. We cook 'em on a barbeque instead. :D

By that statement alone makes me think that octane doesn't make a difference in MPG. I got about the same mileage 26.7-27.1 mpg don't remember the ave speed but about the same miles around 340ish miles(from here to Sacramento) with 89 octane.

Some of my recipts that I just happen to still have show the following:

346 Miles - 67.9 MPH - 23.7 MPG
298 miles - 74 MPH - 25.5 MPG
373 miles - 70 MPH - 25.5 MPG

One thing I do know is that when I rode my '06 road glide out to Texas and back, I got better milage outside of Cali on regular gas than I did in Cali with premium.

Interesting. What's your conclusion of why that was the case? Bad gas? Hotter? I also noticed that I average less here in Cali than I did in Iowa. I used to get 37+ all the time on the highway(in my Cobalt) and here I get 30-35. Hell in Iowa I could cruise at the governor(115mph) and still get 30mpg.

I say it's the gas itself. Or rather all the extra junk Cali adds in.

The bike was a '06 Harley Roadglide. Same one in my sig line before I modified it. Bike had about 4K miles on the motor when I took the trip back in '06. Only thing done to the motor was a low restriction air filter and true dual exhaust. Used a Screaming Eagle race tuner and tuned it on the dyno. No can tune. Had it tuned for about mid power and decent milage. I couldn't pull more than 45 MPG while in Cali on premium but was pulling 50 MPG in Az and N.M. on regular. Go figure.
