I can understand the GXP spinning at launch, but I am surprised it didn't keep up or pull away from a 40 mph roll. How is he able to get both an auto and a manual to race you? Are the cars brand new and not yet broken in?

With the auto downshift you have an advantage on a roll against a manual. If he's spinning the wheels on the launch he's not a good driver. Anyone can floor the throttle, it takes skill to give it enough throttle NOT to spin the tires.

Not sure what happened there but manual to auto shouldn't matter that much when he outpowers you by 30rwhp or more. Plus a 40 roll you had the downshift disadvantage.

And I agree if he is spinning wheels his driving skills are questionable or he has no seat time in that particular car yet.

Mine too. Nice set-up on a GT!

Odd, b/c a manual can select the proper gear and not have to wait for the trans to shift into a gear itself for that split second. Guess its up to driver ability. Autos have an advantage off the line but there are areas between 30-55 mph when various auto transmissions have a sluggish zone. My GTO was bad about it.

The OP has the Superchips tune like me and there's no lag on the auto downshift at all. If the driver with the manual is in the right gear I could see where there's a slight advantage, IF he doesn't bog the motor.

I too have the superchips tune!!! Had a superchips in my GTO right after I tried the Diablo predator. It just wasn't called a Cortex.

The only thing I can imagine is the guy is not as great of a driver as the Op thinks. I love my GT same as you guys, but in reality the GXP should have won and since he didn't there is a missing factor. Hate to say its the driver but anyone got a better idea?

All he needed was to leave traction control ON.

The GT has wider rear wheels (10") and probably has wider tires too. Now that's a BIG advantage over the stock tires on the GXP. Plus I don't think the Potenzas are that great, the new Eagle GT tires I just bought hookup so much better. Traction will surely be the deciding factor in a race.

Yeah I'd say tc off or on is a big thing because I hook up good with it on and the tires on the gxp aren't the greatest. As soon as they show a little wear the search is on. And it def sounds like a driver issue to me. Not trying to b a d*ck.

I typed a smart comment but I deleted it b/c i shouldn't be unprofessional b/c you were. IMO it would suffer more w/ TC on.

The GXP has a stock tune, the ECM/PCM is holding the power hostage. When I tuned my GT it went from Clark Kent to Superman, it's like I'm driving a different car now.

It seems that a lot of folks here assume that TC is bad, but I'd like to see some data. I mean...they use it for launching in F1 (when the rules allow). Is the TC programming on the GXP really so bad that you're better off without it ?

When I go to the strip in about 2 weeks I'll run both ways and report back.

it's not bad at all i use it all the time.......

yeah. when i want to get on mine and go i just leave it on. but when i want to stress to others i turn it off and let em burn. I think the traction control in the Gxp Is great. My Dad has a C6 Z06 M6. yeah were talking 100 more horses but when the tc is on in that and you break the slightest bit the computer shuts you down real bad and in that case youd be better off with it off. but i like the gxp tc.

I started turning it off as soon as I start the car back when I got the CAI. It was engaging quite often and the brake dust on my rear quarters was getting even worse than it already was. Since then, much less brake dust, much more fun.:wink2:

It's not the traction control that's so bad, it's the torque management that stops the engine from making max power. After I tuned my car it makes a lot more power with the traction control on. In fact I have NEVER even turned it off since I've owned my car, and I don't plan to either.

Today we were able to run a few times. Almost Every 0 punch he had me by a car length. Almost every time we did a 10 20 punch I had him by a car. So we r gonna go to the track in a few weeks n get some real runs in. We were both having alot of traction issues on the streets we were on. With that being said my car ran a 8.18 1/8 on street tires so I should be able to smoke him with the mods he has but that wasn't the case. His car is truly a freak.
