If the red oil pressure and voltage bars in the top of the center stack bother you, here's the quick fix.

Go to a stationary, photo or drafting supply store and buy a roll of "red litho" tape.
Usually comes in 3/8" or 3/4" and is a deep red transparent tape. Tones the guages down as much as you want. If the bright orange "passenger air bag" message on the lower part of the rearview mirror bugs you, one strip of red litho tape and a trim to fit with a razor blade does the trick. :boink:

I'm cutting a stick-on aluminum plate to cover it. It will be held on by hidden Velcro.

"red litho" tape..Tones the guages down...

Very interesting, I will try this out as soon as I can find some.

The dash light(s) on my car are always turned down. Too distracting.

I hate the passenger airbag light on the mirror. I've been trying to think of ways to dim it. Thanks.

When I joined the board back in January, I remember reading a post of a company that offered some sort of kit that allowed you to change the coloring of the gauges, displays, etc. They did this for GTOs and sounded like they would offer on the G8 as well. I have been searching on and off for a week now and cannot find the thread discussing it.

Please post pics the first person that tries either the litho tape or the aluminum plate. Both sound good!

I picked up a Garmin Street Pilot. I'm hopping it will mount right in front of the display. I know it's not a real fix, but better than nothing.

Vito

Most likely chris white (think that's his name). He did all kinds of changing of the DIC in the GTO's. Change the colors of the needles, the numbers/letters, and activated the factory shift light amongst other things.

I was thinkin, why not go to a tint shop and have them put like a 10% tint on it? That way you could still see it but it would be very dark and should not be expensive.

That's what I did ... When I went to go have my window's tinted ... I had them put a piece of 20% tint all around ... it darkened it up alot so it's not so intense at night. Quick fix !

Ya listening Pontiac? Time to switch out the Cylon center-stack for something less cheesy.

And while you're at it, how about coving the power outlet/ashtray with a flip up door...it looks unfinished at the moment.
