What do you think the base G8 GT will start at MSRP?

Stripped GT around 28,000. Fully loaded will push it into the mid 30s.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think they'll price the GT too high.

Will be a tick above $30K, just like the Charger R/T. The market the G8 is aiming for isn't a mystery. And V6 models will start in the mid-$20K range, right around the Charger SXT price range. Go figure. ;)

I think it will run the same lines as the Grand Prix.
I voted 29,001 to 30,000

I was just looking at the MT article about the new CTS and they have the estimated price starting at 31 going to 35. I think it would be tough to have the G8 any higher than the 31K. Seems logical to have the G8 land just under the CTS... at least to me. $29,999. --> then they can say "under 30,000 sport sedan".

Just so we don't start mixing apples and oranges:

G8 (3.6L) = ~$26K+ (guessing '08 MSRP)
CTS (3.6L) = ~$33K+ (factual '07 MSRP)

G8 GT (V8) = ~$30K+ (guessing '08 MSRP)
CTS-V (V8) = ~$53K+ (factual '07 MSRP)

It's not unreasonable to estimate the G8 GT model at $30K+ since that is what MSRP is on the comparible Charger R/T (keeping in mind the poll is about the G8 GT).

I was thinking the G8 GT would be low to mid 30s, but when I saw MT's estimates for the 2008 CTS to be 31-35 with 31 being the 250ish HP and 35 being the direct injected 300 HP V6. The new V will be 500-600 HP per their estimates (blue devil's supercharged 8). Make ya thing the GXP version of the G8 will be 450 ish? The SRT-8 is 425, gotta beat that.

I brought up the CTS to use as a comparison, thinking it would help keep the G8's price down.

I see your point now. I think the GT can be had for mid-high 20's after the initial release, but am still thinking the sticker will be $30K+.

I voted 27-29k, but it will be MY2009 before you can actually get one that low, thanks to dealer markup and piling on options.

Our Pontiac dealer has one Solstice, an Arrest-me yellow GXP, with a markup of $3k.

I agree - it'll start in the high 20s, where the loaded G8 V6 leaves off... a loaded G8 GT will be around 35k, and I'd wager that the GXP will start around 36k.

Starting price really depends on what GM is going to bundle with the V8. If the stripepd V8 has the exact same options as the stripped V6 the price difference can't be more than $2k. So I'd say $27k for the GT but if they bundle more options could be pushing $29k for a base GT.

Thinking $33,000 should be tops fully loaded.
Otherwise Pontiac graduates into a whole different league than it typically plays in.

Maybe it is wishful thinking, but I am hoping for below 30k. Think about it, though. The platform is planned to be used accross multiple lines, so those costs should be fairly well shared. The engines are not limited production pieces so the costs shouldn't be too extravegant either. My point is, it shouldn't cost THAT MUCH MORE to produce the v8 vs. the v6. Upgraded suspension, breaking and Luxury parts should be the only real additions.

With the GTO, it was a fairly limited run with only 15k made per year, so it may not have reached the economies of scale needed to really get the MSRP down. (The counter argument is that they had been making the austrailian counterpart for years, so much of the infrastructure, R&D was already paid for). Plus there was the whole issue of the value of the Austrailian Dollar going up significantly over the last few years. If the G8 is made in North America, this shouldn't be a real problem. Quality, on the other hand, might be.

By way of comparison, they were able to put the Northstar in a Buick for under 30k, so I think it's doable.

If they came out with a 29,995 price on a G8 with leather, they wouldn't be able to make enough of them. Is somebody at GM listening?

You guys need to put your marketing caps on for this one.

If the product is brand new to the market, the company can experiment with pricing, to see what the market will bear.

The Charger already exists, however, so the market pricing for this type of car (large RWD 4-door) is already well established. GM will price the G8 right in line with the Charger, both V6 and V8, maybe shaving a few dollars in MSRP to claim a price advantage. If you saw the Chicago show video with Lutz, he said this, pretty much.

The more I think about this, the more it makes sense. Problem is sometimes what GM does just doesn't make any sense.

I agree with rlsedition, after watching the Lutz video. He knows they overpriced the GTO and that won't happen again. The Charger seems to be the nearest target GM is focusing on. It is good to have one opponent in your sights and be able to hit the others that are around the spectrum. Best place to be from marketing AND financial standpoint is to narrow down the real competitpors to 3-5 and then price exactly in the middle.

I voted 29k-30k because thats my limit.

I make it a point to tell the salesperson right to their face I won't buy ANY car from them (ever) when they markup a new vehicle like that.

I hope its right around 30-32K for a fully loaded one, if so I'm on board.
