: ran 13.389 @ 105.9 bone stock at ned
thejudge 04-19-2009, 09:00 AM hey guys i dont post much but i am always on the site i have owned just about every ls car made and have camed just about all of them from corvettes, gtos and fbodies so when it came to to get my wife a new family sedan of course it was a g8 over some front drive jap crap. any way i did what every responsible family guy would do take it to new england drag way here how it went down i got to the track 1 hour before it opened let the car get ice cold i was first car down no water from imports got good traction and hit 13.389 the average hot lap was 13.5 - 13.6 i have to say i was very happy for a bone stock g8
GT or GXP ? What octane fuel ?
thejudge 04-19-2009, 10:21 AM yes its a gt and i had 93 octane about 1/2 tank was left when i got there
Good to know my GT is capable of that out of the box...
Hemi_SRT8 04-19-2009, 10:58 AM Excellent! One hell of a family sedan. :)
thejudge 04-19-2009, 11:33 AM just to let you guys know im telling the truth go to actionracingphotos.com look at pics from 4/15 street night you can see the numbers on my car and later i will scan my time slip to document the run
locrzng888 04-19-2009, 11:40 AM That just might make you the fastest stock g8. I think it was 13.39 before unless someone else has broken that number
MichaelG8 04-20-2009, 03:04 PM Damn, I only managed 13.6. nice job!:driving:
The Commodore 04-20-2009, 06:06 PM I do believe you are the fastest to post your time. Good job!
EDIT: It does look like 09sportred ran a 13.37. But you still ran a very fast time for a stock G8.
SRM096.0L 04-21-2009, 11:36 AM GREAT TIME! How did you drive it (shifting/launch)? Tire pressures?
johnh 04-21-2009, 02:11 PM 60' time?
MichaelG8 04-21-2009, 02:49 PM 60' time?
Dont think i've seen anyone go below 2.0 stock. mine was 2.08 for a 13.66 1/4. I could be wrong.
09sportRed 04-21-2009, 03:20 PM thats one fast G8 man... Looks like the right driver, the right track/conditions and 13.3-13.4 should be possible. 105.9mph trap speed is fast. Grats on the times!
LSTGR81 04-21-2009, 04:13 PM wow i must suck, my first time EVER on a drag strip and I couldn't get under a 14.2. I think it was a bad day for everyone though, even another G8 at the track only ran a 14.1, and GTO's were getting upper 13's to mid 14's. That made me feel a bit better.
Good job on your run.
thejudge 04-21-2009, 04:57 PM the trick to getting that time is simple 1 make sure you get to the track early so you can be the first 10 cars or so down the this alows you to cool off and keep cooled off it takes 45 min or so to cool down 2 93 octane 3 do not let the car shift in to 4th
when launching bring rpm to 1200 roll 1/4 throttle 10ft then mash it
very important to be in staging lanes 1hr early to cool down

i def agree with the first two statements. However, im not sure about not letting it shift to 4th. That 3rd to 4th shift, for me, was very strange. it seemed to almost over rev, and it took a little longer than the other shifts. But, this motor seems to really die at that high rpm range, so i dont know.
I brought my revs to about 1600 and that got me a nice launch. 2.07. The second run i brought the revs to about 1900 and got some wheel hop. Pulled a 2.08 60 though. Maybe with a little less than 31 psi next time?
my97gtp 04-21-2009, 09:01 PM congrats nice time for stock.
LSTGR81 04-21-2009, 09:03 PM I was only launching at about 1000-1200, it was a bit nerve wracking being the first time on a track. I will hope to do better next time.
johnh 04-22-2009, 07:35 AM do not let the car shift in to 4th
I don't agree at all. I am nearly stock (Cai, Tune, Axlebacks) and I made about a dozen passes this weekend--the two worst times where holding third.
and it took a little longer than the other shifts.
Same here I am trying to tune that out.
I can generally pull a 2.0 60' (Eagle F1 tires) and have pulled a 1.9, I do think faster than a 2.0 is very difficult given the stock tune it torque limits the launch. I just basically mash the gas on the last yellow, if I brake torque I just spin..
thejudge 04-22-2009, 08:23 AM the problem with shifting in to fourth is the g8 does it when its going through the traps so as it shifts it looses mph and a little time . when i let the car shift into fourth i was going 13.7 -13.8 and mph was 102 ish. the best out come was staying in third hitting the limmiter under the the sighns.
thejudge 04-22-2009, 08:30 AM one more thing guys a rule of thumb in drag racing is never to load the chassis so all you guys flashing you converters to 1500 - 1800 thats were all your launching troubles begin. unless your running a high stall like a yank or a vig then you can launch at those rpms.
NEARING 04-22-2009, 08:36 AM hey guys i dont post much but i am always on the site i have owned just about every ls car made and have camed just about all of them from corvettes, gtos and fbodies so when it came to to get my wife a new family sedan of course it was a g8 over some front drive jap crap. any way i did what every responsible family guy would do take it to new england drag way here how it went down i got to the track 1 hour before it opened let the car get ice cold i was first car down no water from imports got good traction and hit 13.389 the average hot lap was 13.5 - 13.6 i have to say i was very happy for a bone stock g8
That doesn't suprise me at all. I know when the GTO was stock it would pick up 3-4 mph with a good cool down.
Picking up my G8-GT on Friday!
shudog 04-22-2009, 08:55 AM I used to throw a bag of ice on my intake on my LS1 Camaro while I was staging. Ran my best times doing so.
johnh 04-22-2009, 09:18 AM Yeah that's what I thought too, but my slips said otherwise, holding third I'd get 13.5/13.6 vs. 13.3 letting it shift. I was holding it in manual mode, so maybe my manual shift is partly to blame.
thejudge 04-22-2009, 11:35 AM some of you guys disagree with the no shifting out of third thing i do but some of guys who say you need to use fourth to get a better time i cant help to notice you guys dont have STOCK cars you have boltons, tunes exhaust , etc so you guys are eating up the track faster than a stock car so you have to pull a fourth gear shift to complete the run. so in one instance you helping and hurting your ets at the same time.
SRM096.0L 04-22-2009, 12:06 PM ^^^Did you manually shift? You started in 1st gear correct? I've been trying to pick up from people who have run the quarter as to do it right and you seem to have done it right!
The Commodore 04-22-2009, 12:23 PM Yeah that's what I thought too, but my slips said otherwise, holding third I'd get 13.5/13.6 vs. 13.3 letting it shift. I was holding it in manual mode, so maybe my manual shift is partly to blame.
I hope you were not shifting yourself...
