Brandon,
It never hurts to have the ability to make adjustments to the tune. Especially if you continue to mod the car, which you will :)

I going to try to make it out there. I'm not sure if I'll race my car since it doesn't even have 1000 miles on it.

If I do race, I'll be racing with the NWFbody club (for CCC that is)

+1 I'm going to try and make it too...just don't know how many miles I'll have by then...got about 600 right now. Maybe I need a couple drives up HWY 2...hmmmm

gotta get to that 1000 mile point so you can start ripping in to the throttle a bit!

man, ur gonna love the GRRRROWL you get from the CAI inside the cabin...its highly addictive.

It goes away once you get headers, so enjoy it while it lasts :) unless ur not getting headers

Bob- So does just a catback improve HP/Airflow (this is in addition to the CAI) or would headers be the place to start? Just wondering if the exhaust is going to be just a sound upgrade until/if I get headers.

oh yeah, you will definitely feel a boost in hp!!! 10 or so hp i'd say...mayyyybe 15...magnaflow has a number on their site somewhere.

Thing is, the stock catback is so ridiculously restrictive, it leeches horsepower to make the car quieter. On G8's that have high miles and stock catback on them, you can actually see burnlines on the mid resonators from the heat restriction. So, if you just do mufflers, you will probably see about 5 hp. If you remove the resonator and install get mufflers, you will see the full 10

Headers are a fairly major mod...thats really the first mod that almost requires a tune. You can install a catback and CAI and never need a tune. Once you get into tuning, you get into voiding the "warranty" that GM gives us

Interesting...maybe the CAI and a new catback would be the way to go for now. I'm not to keen on killing my warranty right away. Maybe I would focus on some pedderazation after the CAI/Catback. Good info, thanks.

I would not trust those HP #'s AT ALL... on a dyno a few people have seen about a 2-3hp gain with an axle back...

I would do Intake, stealth tune and underdrive pulley If you want to keep warranty and get some more speed / hp..

Also they local dealerships around here tend to not care about headers...

I think Bob was referring to an entire catback system not just axleback.

Underdrive pully? Forgive my ignorance....

Underdrive pully? Forgive my ignorance....

Not a problem! What is does is underdrives your accesories (alternator ect) to free up some HP...

I don't have the underdrive pulleys on the G8 yet, but I did put them on my stang when I had it. It does make a noticeable difference, for a somewhat reasonable price.

Weather is lookin' awesome for saturday. :)

What time does it open? How much is it to race all day? How many runs can you get in?

MoMorg
04-23-2009, 08:29 PM
Alrighty, my U/D pulley got delayed by UPS. Hopefully I can install it tomorrow night.

Exhaust is in. It's not too bad. I think the Vararam added more HP though. The Magnaflow did help, and I have to imagine it is quite a bit lighter than the stock system.

Going for 12's Saturday baby!!!

Opens at 8am. It's $35 to race plus a one time $5 fee to get a track number. Well if the weather sucks who knows. Not sure on the runs, last time the weather hampered us.
