: Killed A Camaro
Silver G8 GT 04-21-2009, 04:14 PM So I'm sittting at a stoplight, windows down. music up and this kid in a t-top camaro for the 80's or 90's pulls up on me and edges ahead a little. I heard aftermarket exhaust and figured he'd probably wana go. So I turned my stereo off, went to sport mode, killed the TC and did a little burnout just for the hell of it. He then does a massive burnout looks over at me and yells "Let's go" I laugh and say "you don't even know what youre getting into" light turns green, he gets a bout a half car lenght jump on me, i start pulling him the car shifts into second and I'm gone. I thought it was pretty sweet considering he was modded and talkn **** before we went.
nyrican813 04-21-2009, 04:40 PM Haha those are the best kills Nice work

LMAO!!!! :p
TheTugBoat 04-21-2009, 05:19 PM Pretty lucky it was just a bolt on lt1. People love swapping sick setups into those light ass 3rd gens. Little cawky for slower than stock too
Silver G8 GT 04-21-2009, 06:00 PM Haha those are the best kills Nice work
Thanks!
techboy 04-21-2009, 09:33 PM i love how you told him he didnt know what he was getting into. if it wer me i wouldve backed out then lol. nice kill.

I only said that because I doubt he knew I had a 6.0L. Thanks!
BudRacing 04-21-2009, 09:59 PM I kinda doubt it was an LT1. It was probably a TBI 350, or even a 305.
Don't worry there will be plenty more Camaro's to kill.
It's GM's survival or death
harddrivet 04-21-2009, 10:12 PM Nice kill!!
TheTugBoat 04-21-2009, 11:52 PM I kinda doubt it was an LT1. It was probably a TBI 350, or even a 305.
That's what I was hinting at. They made 4cyl 3rd gens ffs.
lonewolfz28 04-22-2009, 12:51 AM The LT1 wasn't introduced until 1993 in the 4th generation body.:wink2:
It wasn't even in the Corvette until 1992.
TheTugBoat 04-22-2009, 01:28 AM Ah that's what I was thinking about. I switched 3rd gen and c4 in my head. Good job you win.
Silver G8 GT 04-22-2009, 06:20 AM That's what I was hinting at. They made 4cyl 3rd gens ffs.
There's no way in hell this guy had a 4 cyl...
josh_4184 04-22-2009, 06:55 AM I kinda doubt it was an LT1. It was probably a TBI 350, or even a 305.
It was most likely a 305, which were not known for there horsepower but did make decent torque.
camarochevy1970 04-22-2009, 08:15 AM how do you know it was modded?
GMfan454. 04-22-2009, 03:54 PM He heard the exhaust.
Silver G8 GT 04-22-2009, 04:23 PM He heard the exhaust.
Yea, it was defiantly louder than stock.
TheTugBoat 04-22-2009, 06:29 PM Wasn't saying you raced a 4cyl...was just elluding to the fact that 3rd gens in stock form aren't monters
G8GXP4now 04-22-2009, 06:42 PM Whatever it was pulled a half a car on him initially.........could have been a TPI motor, those thing had lots of low end grunt.
Silver G8 GT 04-22-2009, 07:57 PM Plus the G8 is a little fat, not as quick intially...but then the 6 liter starts doing its thing.
foxbat 04-22-2009, 11:02 PM The 305 TBI (toilet bowl injection) and 305/350 TPI (tuned port inj) were quick off the line and the TPI cars were usually 0-60 in 6.5-5.8 seconds. LT1's were well into 5.7-5.3 seconds to 60. You did not run a LT1. A bolt-on LT1 is a 300-330 hp car and will run very close to a stock 361hp G8....ask me how I know this :D:D
camarochevy1970 04-23-2009, 05:31 AM Wasn't saying you raced a 4cyl...was just elluding to the fact that 3rd gens in stock form aren't monters
lol, the third gens were what, 235 HP or something? And I think 275 Tq.
nappysvette 04-23-2009, 10:02 AM It was most likely a 305, which were not known for there horsepower but did make decent torque.
The 305 TPI and anemic TBI couldn't get out of there own way... I don't think they put the 350TBI into F-Body's, only Trucks. The 350TPI (in the IROC Z and GTA) were only running mid to high 14's.
Still a nice kill. I have 5 cars, one of which is a 305 HO '85 Trans Am with just a 3" exhaust. Stock 190HP and 250 TQ carb engine. Off the line I can pull a WRX but after about 35 I am done for. The car with just exahaust runs a 15.8 but it is astill a fun car with the big bird on the hood, and I have 9 out of 10 people say the outside does not look "that dated" which I like. Plus I get classic plates and no need for inspection or emmissions here in PA.
'85 TA with the my 30th Anniversary actual pace car beside it

I am a Pontiac guy with much love for the F-body (have owned 8) but my '85 would have been a roasted turd when I would have run you. Though I have to tell you any F-body can easily smoke up the tires better then a G8 4 cylinders, 70's Sprint 6 birds, LT1, LS1 are just amazing at the wonderful world of burnout.
phoenixitc 04-24-2009, 12:02 PM There's no way in hell this guy had a 4 cyl...
Why? :)
Earliest gen3's had 4-bangers.
I had an '88 Firebird Formula 350. Had Hypertech stage II chip, street/strip shift kit in the tranny, Flowmaster 2-chamber exhaust, MSD ignition parts, SLP intake runners and throttle body, rear gears were 3.23s if memory serves. Best 1/4 time at San Antonio Dragway was 14.2 at 96mph. I always got stuck with the Mustangs and Buick GNs. Each and everytime, I would tree them and go, they'd always blow by me at the big end when the Mustang hit their spray in 3rd gear, or the GNs turbos spooled up and hooked.
The Fbirds (and Camaros) with the 350s were very quick off the line thanks to nice torque. I could tell the 350 did not have a good top end, mph in 1/4s were low. I did not bother with headers to try to help with that. I likely had negatively affected my times with the 275/40/17s on heavy Borbet wheels on back, and 245/40/17s on front.
Even had that guy modded his extensively, he'd lose everytime. The quick gen3 Firebird was the Firehawk and it did 13.5s in the 1/4.
