I'm sure JHP will correct my if I'm wrong...

1. Optional plug and play connector
HERE (http://www.jhp.com.au/g8partsdirect/PDF/ConnectorVIMbackupswitch.pdf) is a PDF with the details on the connector that plugs into the car (right side behind the glove box) where the reverse signal is received... and the back-up auto switch plugs into. If you don't order the PnP connectors I think you just get bare wires (like in the photo below).

I purchased the PnP (with everything attached - see below) and it is a very simple install (5min once you have the panels out of the way). Well worth it, IMO, compared to tracking down all the various connectors and wiring-up the harnesses.

2. Aux-in(RCA) cable
I'm guessing this is a single RCA input to connect to the back-up camera. I'm thinking it would be plug-and-play with the radio (including the RCA cable and the connector to plug into the side of the radio)

3. Aux-in(RCA) cable (backup camera and AUX in)
This cable has two RCA ports for video input... one for the back-up camera feed, and one for another video input. When the auto switch turns on it uses one input (the back-up camera one) and when it's off the other port is in use (when in the AUX mode). Like the Aux-in (RCA) cable I believe it would be plug-in-play with the radio.

I am basically just interested in adding only a back-up camera, and would like to know what I need besides the G8 JHP back up camera Auto switch (VIM included) if anything.
Honestly, if you are spending the money on the VIM... you might as well get/wire-up the backup camera and AUX in. The difference is small, and you never know when you'd like to hook something else up (I have my iPod, even though I never watch movies on it... I could if I wanted to).

One last question. Since the G8 JHP back up camera Auto switch (VIM included) comes with the VIM, if I return the VIM after using it, am I still eligible to receive the $50 refund?

The orange loop sticking out of the auto switch is what does the VIM flashing (you cut it to flash the head unit). Because you still have the auto switch connected to the car after flashing... there is nothing to return for a refund (unlike the stand-alone VIM kit).

-Todd...

Note: I think you could just get a VIM and hook it up to the back-up camera... then return the VIM for rebate. However, the car wouldn't automatically switch to the back-up camera input when the car is put into reverse (which is really cool).

For anyone that has used their JHP VIM for video playback (DVD or navigation) how is the screen quality display? I don't know the pixel ratio on the screen because it looks great for radio and XM/Sirius radio letters but I don't know how video will look seeing that the only reason I would get the VIM kit is to play DVD's on the front panel, not a back-up camera source. If anyone is doing this and you can post pics or a video of your video playback that would be great.

I got the Plug and Play VIM kit - my problem is, the last step where you flash the car. It says to plug the longer of the cords with a harness on the end, into the car's under dash diagnosis port, then do the whole flash steps. My problem is - the harness doesn't match up with my diagnosis port. Is there something where I'm supposed to mention I don't have a Holden, I have a Pontiac - and that I needed USDM VIM kit? Right now my car switches to camera input automatically when in reverse, but because the speed sensor is not disabled, the video goes blank when I start backing up faster than 2mph - as it knows I'm moving :(

Did I get the wrong PnP kit? Should I just cut the damn PnP harness off and hard wire it?

If you have Plug and Play kit - you will not have diagnosis port connector,
It plugs on the right side behind glove box

Is that true that for the auto-aux in reverse to work you need to keep the VIM and then have no core to return for the core return discount?

If you don't have the screen then the VIM and auto switch solution is no use to you as it is all about integration with the existing head unit display.

You can however buy a reversing camera and a small screen or plug into your GPS if it has video in capability.
The just hook up the camera to your reversing lights and it will come on only when in reverse.

I must say I have an SS-V with the head unit screen and the JHP VIM/auto switch system works a treat with that.
