: XM Installation
Rufas 03-22-2008, 09:34 PM OK guys I'm hoping someone here has some good information about working on the dash of my GT.
I want to install a small RoadyXT XM receiver in the area directly beneath the A/C controls and the left of the 12v aux outlet. The RoadyXT is almost a perfect fit for that area, has a similar metal finish like metal on the dash and it also has a red backlite display to match the rest of the lighting on the dash.
I talked to the audio guys where I had my windows tinted today about this. They want to make a custom panel that would use a different XM receiver and place this panel over/covering the current digital volt meter and oil pressure gauge at the top center of the dash. They only want to charge me $566 - such a deal!
I'm not overly happy those digital gauges, but at the same time I don't want to loose the oil pressure gauge and I don't want to install different gauges either.
So finally my questions:
How do I take off the center panel around the radio and a/c controls?
How do I remove the panels underneath the dash
How do I gain access to the where the antenna lead is connected to radio?
Any information about this would be great. Pictures would be a real Plus!
Thanks
Mr. Sandog 03-22-2008, 09:56 PM You may want to be sure that no one has ideas about replacing those stupid gauges with something useful before you block that spot with an XM unit. :)

That's exactly what I don't want to do. I do not want to block that area of the dash. I want to put the XM in that small area next to the 12v aux power outlet under the a/c controls.

I wouldn't see any problem putting the Roady under the A/C controls. Other than how well can you see them while at speed.
GXP V8 03-23-2008, 08:43 PM I mounted my xpress rc there and am not happy with it there. Exactly the issue of not being able to see the display or easily use controls without the remote. I contacted Proclip to find out about availability of their Holden mount. They said it should be available by June, so it'll stay there until I can get the higher proclip mount.
JAWDRPNG8 03-24-2008, 01:08 AM The gauges above the stereo have to GO! lol
I think its a good spot for like a g force type computer.... 0 to 60 times.. 1/4 times...with trap speed...etc

Do you have a link or pictures of this Proclip mount?

That's very tacky.

Can you use the current antenna or must you place a separate one for XM?

Satelitte antennas are different & require being routed. I have seen some pretty creative ways to hide the wires.
And, if someone wants one of those Proclips things, I'm sure the local grocery store or pharmacy already has those on the shelf. :p I personally wouldn't want anything like those in my car.

Not my cup of tea either.

Could you please share these ideas? I have an XM Receiver that I want to install asap. I'm also wondering (like a bunch of others) how I might directly connect the XM receiver to the stereo without using the front aux jack. I understand there's a rear aux input, and I've also read now where there is a jack on the backside of the head unit.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
There's a company called "Kuda" that makes decent-looking sat radio mounts that are color-indexed and custom fit for your vehicle. Pretty sure it's www.kudausa.com
I've had two of these in previous vehicles - they are a great option for those who don't want to drill and want a semi-custom mount for their PDA/GPS/Sat Radio.
I checked the website - they don't have any for the G8 yet by my bet is they will. They already came out with one for the new BMW 1 series.

As for the rear Aux-In plug, I can't help you there. A few GTO owners will mount the antenna (magnetic) at the front above the windshield. Then, they run the wires under the rubber trim around the windshield. Then, behind the front fender, through the body & into the interior. Then comes all of the disassembly of the dash to plug into the "unknown" rear Aux-In plug.
