This was my first time doing anything like this. I'd like to see if you guys see if I did everything right, if there are any issues you see from the install?

Looks good to me :)

Wonder if you could run the flex loom under for a cleaner look?

Yea, I saw another person had done that, but I would have to take it back out to fo that... I'm not bothered by the look... looks more custom :)

Also, I see you have HSRK... What is that? I've heard of it with CAIs... any info? What would it do for me?

Thanks!

Have you noticed any difference after installing it ?

I notice a little more growl when accelerate. More responsive. I'm also running the SC 93 tune, and I used to have a little chirp at 1-2, but now it will spin a little more if I want it to. I've driven about 300 miles, and last night I was getting about 23-24 MPG crusing at 80 MPH / 2000RPM driving about 90 miles.

Where do you see this???

I have the HSRK (Heat Soak Reduction Kit).

I would suggest it, as it measures 10X faster than the stocker, according to VMS.

HSRK adds an external sensor to measure air temp much more quickly. Works with all aftermarket CAI kits and the stock box.

Everything looks good with the Vararam install except for that factory airbox still sitting under the hood. :stickpoke:

What are the rhwp/rwtq gains from the Vararam compared to the New Era OTR setup and Rotofab?

SRG, do you have any pictures with the HSRK? Also, anyone know where I'd want to put it on the Vararam?

Thanks!

Usually want to get the IAT sensor before the filter so that it is getting the accurate temps on incoming air.

Looks very nice. After checking out the different CAI's I think this is the one I'll be getting. My only question is, can you buy replacement filters? Does it use a K&N style? I know they say you can reuse alot of filter these days, but I still like to replace mine every couple years or so and just want to make sure I can purchase replacement.

Yes you can get a replacement filter. They use Green Filters similar to K & N. http://www.greenfilterusa.com/

You can buy them from VaraRam, they told me the filter is good for about 200,000 miles.

VERY NICE INTAKE!!!! Does anyone know which otr cai will be better. I looked at the vararam, and the new era otr's, but I cannot make my mind up. Any suggestions....?

That was my question. But finally, I decided on the Vararam, because I like how it goes right to where the air is flowing to get it. Also, I talked to some guys who had Vettes and they got the Vararam and love it. I figured, if it's good enough for a ZR1, it's good enough for me. :)

Thanks guys, that's what I needed! I plan on starting mods on mine this summer and the CAI with tune will definitely be first (maybe a catback also to liven up the sound a bit).

New Era OTR and Vararam put down virtually the same numbers at the dyno according to Vector Motorsports (I think Vararam put down 1-2HP/TQ more). It's more of an appearance decision if anything. Vararam is very OEM looking, while New Era screams aftermarket IMO. I like 'em both, but New Era is down the road from me and you can't beat getting a custom tune from the guys who created the intake. Not to mention I picked up a scratched one for dirt cheap :)

I don't think you can go wrong with either, or the roto-fab. You do have some appearance choices with the New Era though.

THANKS!!! Ill definitely be going with the vararam otr. The new era looks goofy.. :( Any suggestions on quick tune ups? Ive heard of super chips, but have no idea what it actually does and if anyone of them can store the manufacturers settings...

I have the SuperChips Cortex, and love it. You can tune to 87, 91, or 93 that I know of. When you go to tune it, it will save STOCK tune as well, so if you need to take it in for service, you can tune it back to stock. I did that when I had some body work done... just incase. :)

Yes, I have one too.
I thought he was addressing his post to the original pictures. ;)

I chose the Vararam also and to give it an even cleaner factory look, it matches up very well with the radiator cover. A little minor trimming and very clean, great looking, great performing OTR. If you read up on the Vararam, it not only slightly out performs the other CAI's, it has the true ram air on the top end when getting on the gas above 50mph it gets stronger as it climbs to 80+. Here are a few pictures of my install. I did a couple minor mods to the engine cover to help with heat build up but keep a nice factory clean look.

that engine cover looks cool. And now I see why you should use a V6 radiator cover on a GT. Does anyone know if that Vararam logo is a sticker? Can you take it off?

Eric_GT

One thing I will say is that you WILL notice a stronger acceleration at higher speeds, thus the ram air effect.
I can kick my traction control on doing 70 mph upon downshift in sport mode. I know the VR is a large part of this!
